So I picked up Ys:F and just recently received Xanadu Next (which I've been assured is a stellar investment). Now I'm wondering if you could recommend any other games that I could play with no understanding of Japanese on the PC.
I really like adventure/RPG's like Ys, Xanadu Next, Kingdom Hearts, Shining Force Neo, Zelda, and games of that genre. I'm having a harder and harder time getting into traditional role-playing games, and I can't really stand strategy/tactics games as they bore the hell out of me. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Once again, I have to recommend the Legend of Xanadu I & II. The battle system is just like earlier Ys games, where you run into enemies. Then, when the boss battles begin, you are treated to side-scrolling action stages. Only in the second game there are no side scrolling stages when you finish an area, just boss battles. If you haven't played these two they are a ton of fun. The first one is kind of difficult, because of the enormous amount of backtracking and dialogue, but I am working on re-introducing the guide for it. I can't find the guide anywhere anymore, but I have it from long ago. If you are a fan of PC Engine chip music or PSG like me, there is a lot of great stuff there.

Yeah, LOX 2, is MUCH easier to play thru with a lack of japanese knowledge, hence, why I was able to beat it, but, not the first game. Also the first 2 Legend of Heroes games are cool......but, they're turn based, like the rest of the series. Sorcerian is ok, but, never really impressed me. Faxanadu is cool, & I'd like to someday make a complete 16-bit overhaul of that game, that would rock! Oh yeah, the Brandish games are kinda cool as well.

Faxanadu is cool, & I'd like to someday make a complete 16-bit overhaul of that game, that would rock! Oh yeah, the Brandish games are kinda cool as well. That has already been done. Sort of. There's a Faxanadu remake for PC out there. Kinda sucks though. Or, should I say really sucks? If you want pure fun, get Gurumin. Action/platformer with some adventure elements. Awesome game. Definitely one of the best Falcom games ever. Oh, and you must play Xanadu Next ASAP! It's the best game ever made, I assure you! Then there's Zwei!! that I don't personally like that much, but it's an action-rpg as well. I am guessing you don't want slow, boring and very dialogue-based turn-based RPGs, so I'd recommend you to stay far, far away from the ED series. The Brandish trilogy (not counting Brandish 4) is a bit different, but those are action-rpgs as well, personally I enjoy them a lot, even though they are very repeditive. And a bit of advice -- avoid everything "Dragon Slayer", those games are bad. Period. The first game's terrible, the second (Xanadu) is even worse, the third (Romancia) is bad, but almost playable. The fourth (Draslefamily) is a bad game, but playable. The fifth (Sorcerian) it terrible if you ask me, the sixth (The Legend of Heroes) is slow and boring. The seventh (Lord Monarch) is a strategy game that's just terrible and the eight (and last) is The Legend of Xanadu, that appears to be pretty decent. The Legend of Xanadu II (also DS8) seems to be really nice. Feelin' negative today.

Man I really need to play Gurumin, but there's so much other stuff about to come out. Is it difficult to finish quickly?

Hey thanks! I knew I could count on you folks to come through.
I've played Legacy of the Wizard, which I believe is the US release of one of the Dragon Slayers. It was a horrible game that I just could not get into for the life of me, and I played it a lot trying to.
I've only just been able to start up Xanadu Next, and I want to give the first two that came with it a shot as well, though it might not be until after this and then maybe KH2 when it comes out.
I guess I'll be picking up Zwei! as you've all more or less recommended it, not sure yet about Gurumin. I'll have to look up either some pics or vids of the gameplay.
I've played Sorcerian and just couldn't get into it though, once again, I tried repeatedly.
Any non-Falcom adventure/RPGs would be welcome too. Thanks again.

Jest -- do you have a PS2? Yeah, but it's US, so I don't really know how to play Japanese games on it. I don't think I can afford to buy a JP one, but I might be able to get some sort of converter or something. I also have a Gamecube...though I doubt that helps matters much. Peace Out Jest

I highty recommend Radiata Stories (PS2) which is just incredible. Fantastic cel-shaded graphics and incredible atmosphere. And for Gamecube: Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles. Pretty good game, but certainly not great. And if you can get ahold of a Saturn -- Magic Knight Rayearth which is one of the most fantastic adventure games ever!
