Recently I tested some Falcom games for windows on Windows Vista RC2 Build 5744. My hardware is Thinkpad R60 with Core Duo T2300e cpu, 1G DDR2-667 RAM, Mobility X1300 display adapter. All of them are original Japanese versions. Indeo video 5 installed correctly. Ys I Eternal: Runs in Win98 Compatibility mode, Ys II Eternal: Runs after changing the region to Japan but the sound doesn't work Ys VI: Runs after changing the region to Japan Shin Eiyuu Densetsu: fsetup2.exe crashes, don't run after directly copy the ED1_WIN directory to harddisk, runs after added some correct values into the registry Shin Eiyuu Densetsu 3: Runs happily Eiyuu Densetsu 5: Runs happily Eiyuu Densetsu 4: Runs happily Monarch Monarch: Runs happily after changing the region to Japan Sorcerian Forever: Runs happily Sorcerian Original: Runs happily Seems that Vista still supports those "outdated" games well ^_^

I wouldn't rely on Vista 100% yet! If that was the free version that Microsoft offered, then you might wanna wait until they release the finallized product, with all (or majority) of the bugs ironed out.

I played Ys I & II complete on Vista RC1 Build 5600, and had no problems what so ever, other than not having the right Indeo 5 codec. I didn't even have to enable any comptability modes.

I managed to use the old iv5setup.exe to install the Indeo video 5 codec with UAC disabled. Eiyuu Densetsu 6 original and SC have no problems with system region changed to Japan. But the Simplified Chinese version encrypted with StarForce 3 refuses to run and crash even I use my original genuine disk, but runs with no problem in my XP Home.
