I'm thinking of buying a Falcom music album or two, but there are so many that look good that I don't know what to pick! Which ones would you recommend?

I second the nomination for Xanadu Next's soundtrack. Gorgeous stuff. What other ones were you being tempted by though? A list to narrow down with could help.

Don't waste too much time trying to hunt down the Perfect Collection edition unless you want it FOR collecting purposes. The Super cheap Arrange is a waste of money. The OST, however, is not. GET IT.

Heh, when I want to listen to the Felghana OST, I just opn up one of the .ogg files that I copied from the DVD-ROM to my hard drive.
I was actually interested in some of the older releases, you know, the ones at the bottom of their CD catalog page on the website.

Speaking of such, its good to see that The Legacy of Ys is still being updated, unlike other websites I could mention...

If you haven't heard these, I would recommend them: Preprimer (very relaxing-melody driven) Symphony Gagharv Trilogy (If you're familiar with the LoH III-V music, this rules). Some of the orchestrations are fast and it has a lot of tracks too. Some of the best by JDK electric orchestra. If you want incredible Falcom synth, the Brandish 3 OST IS STILL AVAILABLE HERE: Brandish 3 at Gamemusic.comWayyyyyyy out of print. You can't get it brand new at a store like this anymore. I guess Falcom just won't reprint those old CDs, now that they have Itunes. They could sell out of this any day now. The price is steep for it, but worth it.

Heh, I got my Ys V soundtrack from gamemusic.com before they sold out. I made a call from work and had it shipped overnight. The guy said: "You need it that quick?" I replied with a frantic YES! With that same order I got the Seiken Densetsu 3 and Saga Frontier 2 OSTs. One of the best CD purchases I ever made.

If you're into Japanese style music, I recommend the VM Japan soundtrack! :D
The Perfect Collection Sorcerian CDs are rather nice too but .... why am I mentioning this? They're long out of print. >_>;;;;
Oh, the Zwei!! OST features some nice tracks too. :D I believe Falcom still sells it? I haven't checked their catalog in a very long time. I would also suggest Arcturus but I don't think they sell that separately. :(
Wooo! Seiken Densetsu 3 OST!! It really is nice stuff but I think I prefer the Legend of Mana one more. :3
And I still wish that online music stores that let people download tunes would accept international purchases. It really annoys me that I can't support the artists in a way that I prefer to do it in. >:(

I will echo VM Japan. It's one of the more recent games, but I think it's one of my favorite Falcom soundtracks ever.
I consider the Yonemitsu arrangements found on the PCE versions of Ys 1-4 to be the best versions of any Ys songs, plus they're pretty cheap if you get the Japanese versions. (Plus there's the actual game to be played too!)
As for others - I have a weakness for Legend of Xanadu. It's just PSG - not even FM synth - but the composition quality is excellent and there's a lot of catchy tunes. You also can't go wrong with Sorcerian, although I prefer the PC98 FM synth over any of the "arranged" versions found on the Sorcerian Forever or Perfect Collection CDs. Brandish 3, as noted above, is also pretty decent.
