I figured we need a Sorcerian thread around hear. What do you think of Sorcerian? Like/dislike?
I think sorcerian is a Neat little game. The Midi Music just blows me away. Im not a Big fan of Midi, but damn some of it is better then Ys I and II. Tracks like Blue Dragon, Bloody River and the Seal, and Cursed Queen Mary come to mind. Anyways Discuss. PS: Note im Struggling thru the Mega Drive Version. Thiers a patch that translates some menus.

I've got some music from Sorcerian Online, my favorite is The Missing Sceptre: Dungeon, it's really cool~

It was too difficult for me! I never understood the game and always felt stuck.

I wish somebody would translate the Turbo CD version, the music is wonderful in it, but I just don't have the patience to figure out the whole stats thing, & how many people in a party I can bring in what level, etc.

My only experience with Sorcerian thus far has been Sorcerian Forever, which I greatly enjoyed. My only real beef with it is the jerkiness of the scrolling, which kinda hurt my eyes until I got used to it. Great music, though, and I'm still on the lookout for Sorcerian Original. -Tom Tom If your looking for the the First Sorcerian might I suggest the Genisis/Mega Drive Version. Its pretty Decent. The rom is pretty easy to hunt down and thier even a partial translation.(Well some of the menus hehe).

I've always like the Dreamcast version, but the language barrier has prevented me from getting anywhere in any version of the game. Apparently the PC version was the only one released in English, and it's a free download now because it's abandonware. www.the-underdogs.info/game.php?id=1013 but I can't get it to work. I can't seem to find it. Nafligns Ego seems to be down. If anyone has a link to this, it would be appreciated.

Wow, Sorcerian... ancient.
Before Ys, there was Sorcerian. At least, that's how it went for me. I played the one put out by Sierra many suns and moons ago, and I never figured out how to beat the Dragon King level (I later learned that it was originally termed "Romancia" after the game).
In the Water of Life level you can see a miniature Superman peeing in one of the lakes.

Well after making my characters immortal and leveling up like crazy I gave up cause I could never beat the dragon king. Is there some special way in beating that dungeon? Also is there a better translated version of the game?

if anyone still cares to beat the dragon king level, you need to set your characters to have specific occupations to successfully complete the scenario. Really lame.
I think you'll need a doctor/nurse, a fortune teller, and one more...I forgot.

*reviving half dead thread
Is the sorcerian game for Dreamcast any good? It seems like the most acessable game in the series to me, and I think I could find it cheap on Ebay.

I think it was dubbed the worst game on Dreamcast by IGN or something? Regardless, it's garbage.

I think Sorcerian DC was developed by Victor, the same doods who made Falcom Classics 1-2, and Ys 1-3 for Famicom.

Man, the DC port made me want to stab my eyes out. The new scenarios I couldn't make heads or tails of.
I tried doing both The Lost Scepter and Dark Marsh in that version (they were the only other scenarios that were unlocked at the beginning) and I remember getting my ass handed to me by the Hydra and the Red Dragon, respectively. I was sitting there like, they didn't do THAT much damage before.
The levels were pretty faithful even in 3D with crappy camera angles, though.

Bumpity-boo, because I just got the old Sierra version up and running under dosbox. Even got the MT-32 midi emulator installed, so I can use the fancy music setting. I'm using something called D-Fend Reloaded which makes it a bit easier to set things up in dosbox. I only recently figured out how the heck to work the darned thing, and I'm really just following instructions off of tutorials/forums rather than genuinely understanding everything I'm doing... but it works! I actually snagged a boxed copy off of ebay for really cheap about a month ago, but due to my lack of a floppy drive, I just used the install from Home of the Underdogs. But the boxed copy is nice to have 'cause it's got the big meaty manual. I miss the days of big meaty manuals. Now back to hitting "Advance Time" again and again so I can laugh at the elderly character portraits!

Heeeey, interesting fact. I copied one of the three Scenario folders in the install and renamed it "SCENE04." It actually then becomes selectable from within the game, although obviously it's just going to be repeats of whatever folder you copied. Still, makes me wonder if Sierra had plans to bring over the expansions or even make some scenarios of their own. ...We need a level editor!

Sorcerian had a number of bonus scenarios released for it in Japan; Falcom likely designed it this way to accommodate that.
