Hi folks. Seldane helped me secure a DVD Limited Edition Box Set of Ys - The Oath to Felghana at the message boards of another website, and I decided to stop by and see what this place had to offer. Figured I'd register and say hello, since I've been a fan of Ys games almost as long as I have played videogames.
I wasn't much of a Sega OR an NEC nut in my youth (I used to be exclusively Nintendo then, though no longer), but I played a truckload of Ys and Ys Book I & II at my cousin's place, on the Sega Master System and TurboGraphx CD, respectively.
Since then, I've picked up (legitimately, through eBay, imports, etc) the following games in the series:
Ys - SMS
Ys Book I & II - Turbo CD
Ys I Complete DVD - Jp PC
Ys II Complete DVD - Pc PC
Ys III - Wanderers from Ys - Genesis
Ys III - Wanderers from Ys - SNES
Ys III - Wanderers from Ys - Turbo CD
Ys IV - Dawn of Ys - Jp Turbo CD
Ys VI - Ark of Napishtim - PS2
Ys - The Oath to Felghana Limited DVD Edition - Jp PC
Not a terrible collection... I'm constantly debating whether to pick up some additional US games that I'm missing, such as the SNES version of Ys III, but never get around to it. Perhaps I'll scope out eBay, now that I'm in the mood.
Regardless, I've also scoped out some additional versions of these classic, versions that are not otherwise available to me in the USA, such as the NES versions of Ys I-III, the SNES version of Ys IV, etc. But, I do not own those, and have no intention of doing so. In fact, Oath of Felghana is a bit of a departure for me, since I don't bother to import games that aren't fan-translated, as a general rule. The main reason I got Ys IV Turbo CD and Ys I & II Complete for the PC was because I could then patch the games to display, mostly, in English. Well, I guess I can always hope for an eventual patch to Oath to Felghana, but considering that we still don't have one for Ark of Napishtim (barring the somewhat tragic PS2 port), I'm not holding my breath. Still, to be honest, I got the Limited Edition box set on its way more for the music CDs than the game itself, which will probably be largely unplayable for me thanks to the fact that I cannot read a word of Japanese!
Well, cheers. I guess that's enough about Mej and his Ys past for now, right?
Edit - Just thought I'd add that I'm a 26 year old currently living in Brooklyn, New York (USA), where I'm currently working full time, and studying Computer Science and English, part time. Oh, and for those that REALLY care, I am still a Nintendo nut, just not exclusive to them anymore.
Edit 2 - Modified to reflect the Ys III SNES purchase from a few weeks ago...
