So yeah... good stuff overall. If you like Vantage Master, VMP is a must-have, as it's basically the game you love, but in portable form... and it's yet another great PSP port from Falcom Which is all well and good if they actually respond to your orders Ordered it two weeks ago and haven't had a reply, and sure enough they're not offering the preorder soundtrack set anymore. Nice.

LE box? For the PSP games? The closest thing you'll get there is the box containing Sora no Kiseki FC, SC, and the Material Collection. Which I believe you can still buy from Falcom themselves. Nope, I'm pretty sure they discontinued that a while ago. Seem to remember the 'Sold Out' icon being attached to it when it was still on the mail order page, and now it's been removed entirely, so... Sora isn't the slightest bit suited for the "Japanese retarded" though, so I'm not sure I'd recommend it for anything other than collectors spirit. If I were you, I'd open up the original email I sent them from your outbox, and forward it back to them verbatim, politely asking for a status update. They'll probably still honor your original order, since it was their mistake and not yours. (They honored mine, which contained a special of the week that was already severely outdated!) Just sent one (same thing in English and Japanese, though my email client will probably butcher the latter) so we'll see what happens. Want to play as Renne and Leonhardt with arranged music dammit.

Thank you for your email. I am sorry. I am not reading an E-mail from you. An E-mail may not have been received. Or, I make a mistake, and it may have been deleted. At any rate, I am sorry. There is a sound track still.
Oh Falcom and their lovable Engrish.

How does Vantage Master's OST compare with the Ys series? Also (off topic) what do you recommend for (beginner and beyond) study materials and the like, for those of us who are serious about teaching english in Japan -- and for those of us just serious overall about learning Japanese?

I don't remember which VM game it was, but it had some awesome midi music....... I believe some songs were 20+ minutes long. Good stuff. I don't remember which game it is though, I might look around later.

So, they removed/ replaced the Ys characters?
Has Falcom gone mad? They excluded the characters from the franchise that has been giving them food during all these decades!!
I really don't want to believe Falcom is 100% like any other company... in certain aspects. Really, Falcom has truly disappointed me like never before.
But it's strange, from what I remember, the Ys and other Falcom characters in VM were secret ones, but it wasn't like you could unlock them. You had to make certain "choices" in the prologue (or whatever it was), then give a special name to the characters to activate the Ys characters and stuff. Can you name your characters in this PSP version?
>:/ I'm mad at Falcom.

They weren't REAL Ys characters. They had the same appearance, but different names.

Eh, really? I recall using Adol in that engRish VM game, and I also recall the character's name as "Adol Christin". Perhaps we are talking about different Vantage Master games?

No I meant in VM Japan. Dela Devon (from Brandish) and Dalk Fukt are in it (maybe one more), but they have different names.

Oh, that VM game is different. xD Unfortunatelly I didn't get the chance to play it yet.
Hmm, is that it then? Anyway, I heard not only Dark Fact, but also Lilia was playable in that VM if you used their expansion disc or something... But I do not know more than this from that VM.

Aha! I will have to, since I'm curious about its gameplay aswell. If you could compare it to Final Fantasy Tactics, Fire Emblem and games of those natures -- are they simialar? Better? Worse? I'll check it out after I download a decent antivirus. 50 MB takes a while on ancient 26.4k dialup. Anyway, when you get the chance, I'd love to hear about the materials you've used and recommend. Tax returns are taking a while (since I used the ancient method of snail mail) so I'm planning ahead of time what I need to get. I hear a lot of criticism regarding rosetta stone and programs of that nature, but I'd prefer to have a professional opinion. Also, I'm guessing you'd probably recommend learning to speak and interpret prior to driving myself crazy with kanji, right? ...or should I integrate both practices into a single session?

Tom, did you already try the game Master of monsters ? I had a copy of the 3rd version on my hard drive a few years ago, and it was very close to vantage master in term of gameplay. By the way, can we play vmj together someday ? EDIT : I just found there's a PS version of Master of monsters... While I was watching screenshots on gamespot, I found this : Funny, isn't it ?

I'm not sure what the big deal is if they AREN'T in the game, though. I mean, I bought VMP for VMP, not for Ys. Honestly, cameos from other games are unimportant to me -- even given the choice, I'd still play as the main characters, since they're the ones the game is focused on. Hm, well, I get your point there. xD Hm... To understand what I mean... Imagine a Super Smash Bros. game filled only with infamous and very "ordinary" game characters for a fighting game, "dull" ones. Smash Brothers wouldn't be the same thing. Having a character you really like is a stimulus to play it. I like VM's gameplay and stuff, but... I have to admit that, for me, half of the fun is lost when I don't use characters I like in which I previously could. =( That's my point of view. xD I got mad at Falcom for them threating more importantly other franchises than Ys, after all these years and stuff. Yeah, basically, that's it. Just my opinion, though.

It's based on V1. The maps in V2 are different, and you get all the special characters. There is a network mode in V2 too. VMP has network mode, too bad I can't find someone to play with... So far I've played two battles with Deruna (I just came back from holidays) and I found the graphics to be much better than the original version yet more pixellated. The units move so much smoother too ! The game plays fine and it's quite nice to be able to change from arranged tracks to original tracks. I found VMJ to be better than VM because of its general ambiance. It also has better graphics, and a better soundtrack ! Some purists find VMV2 to be better because of the maps and other stuff, but I didn't play it enough to find it better than VMJ. Did you notice how the characters in the picture I've posted above look like Adol and Eldeel ? Master of Monsters III or IV would be better played on PC I think.

But see, Super Smash Bros. is a bad example, since that game is MEANT to be a crossover featuring characters from virtually every Nintendo IP. Vantage Master... is meant to be Vantage Master. It's not Ys, and it's not Legend of Heroes... it's Vantage Master. -Tom Yes, that's true. Smash Bros. isn't quite a good example. But I hope you understood what I mean. xD It's so much fun to use these characters outside of their own universe. Hm, but anyway, if you can rename the characters... Could you try and see if Adol is there? Just to be sure... This link at GameFAQs tells how to use him, the Goddesses and other Falcom characters in the PC game: www.gamefaqs.com/computer/doswin/file/583148/19542Basically, you need to make a Knight, then name him "Adol", so that his class will change to Adventurer. Well, if it doesn't work, it's still ok. xD

Hmm... : / It can't be helped then.
I wonder why they got rid of the other Falcom characters... Well, whatever. xD Thanks for trying.

Well some of the natials have modified stats at day or night. For example : a light natial will have enhanced stats during day, and decreased stats at night. Now I don't know where it's written exactly on the screen. Some natials are neither light nor dark. You can see that you have modified stats because there's a number like (-3) or (+2) close to one of the values. Edit : I just found where it is in VMJ, now let's see if I can find it in VMP. Edit 2 : It's the second information written when you select a natial. Just above the type of natials. Decreased stats are in red with a little arrow pointing down, increased stats are in green with a little arrow pointing above. Not all the maps have bright changes. (I think it's written somewhere on the screen when you choose the map). We need someone to make nice photos of this
