Hello everyone, just in case there are fans here who don't know, but Turbo Zone Direct is still selling new games and accessories for turbo consoles. They are very nice, I bought a brand new Lords of Thunder a while back because I sold my original one a long time ago. (never sold my Ys I & II though) They even have a converter so you can play Japanese hucard games on your unconverted system. They are legends, because they are the remnant of Turbo Technologies, responsible for some great games back in the day. Anyway, here is a link, I thought it would be cool to have a link to them here. www.tzd.com/

Cool, I shelled out the money for the hucard converter and it works perfectly, Japanese hucards are a lot cheaper on ebay than the U.S. released ones, probably due to the PC Engine's long lifespan over there. There are a number of ebay sellers in Japan who have great prices on Turbo/Pc Engine games.

I had a TG-16 a long time ago and then bought the Duo(best system ever?) when it came out. I sold the Duo when they stopped releasing games for it over here, but later bought another one on ebay, now there is no limit to the flow of games I never got to play before!
I also have to add that the sole reason I bought the system again was to play The Dawn of Ys, but then I got Legend of Xanadu I & II, and since then I have become a Turbo freak all over again.

I did not know that. By the way, the Bonk and Air Zonk games are what I've been playing on the system. Talk about classic. When I first played Bonk again (I know the Japanese title, but I like Bonk better) I could have almost shed tears because it had been about 13 years since I sold mine, and the memories came flooding back.

I have the PS2 version of Bonk. It r-u-l-e-s! One of the best PS2 games I've ever played - and I've played 'em all! (Xbox Magazine quote... except that I changed Xbox to PS2 - I haven't really played them all! ) A tad off topic by the way. Oh well.

Shoot, I need to play the updated version! I've known about it for a while, but I just haven't gotten it yet. Man, if I just didn't buy some game music on ebay, I would get that. I would say you weren't off topic, there's only so much you can say about TZD, so we might as well discuss the great games on the system.

I don't know when they came out but I saw a gamecube and PS2 version available at gamebaz.com some time ago. The graphics look really neat, and not like 3D either, as though they were trying to maintain something from the classic look.. I wonder how the music was redone...

It was released in 2003. It is really fun. You can see some screenshots and a review right here.

I wish I could have played the Dawn of Ys when you did. I finally got to it though eventually. Back then I knew about it, but had no way to get it. I remember seeing a picture of it somewhere and being really sad I couldn't play it.

I think the first place I got stuck, was where you had to blow a fluted near a pillar or something, it was somewhere around 94/94, it's been awhile......heh, it was probably Deuce's FAQ that I used as well, mainly for I think the part where Timmy turned to stone, either that, or making the right potions, I can't quite remember. I WISH we could finish the damn dub, but, looks like it'll never happen, with all the time & money I put into it........which ain't so bad, it helped motivate me to get into making music for games, so, I'm not mad. It'd still be nice to finish someday though.

That was the first time I was tempted to buy a Japanese import, aside from Dracula X which I paid $79.99 for. The latter I was assured would be very enjoyable, that I'd not have to worry about the language barrier. Chock it up to reading too much GameFan and its dedication to the forbidden fruits known as imports, you know? As for Ys IV, the only place I got stuck the first time I played it was at that guard that required you to equip your worst sword, armor and shield before moving out of the way to let you in. I couldn't do nothing till reading Deuce's FAQ on that. Oh, and I dunno why you'd lament not having played it when I did, since now you get to play it for the first time fully translated. That's a bit more enjoyable than hearing (well, the voice acting is transcribed now at least) and seeing gibberish, and only enjoying the music, cool cut scenes, as well as the boss fights. I loved it as a music CD for a real long time. For years I felt like I had missed out on my favorite series, I thought I would never get to finish the whole Ys series. They even put that "to be continued" message at the end of the Turbo Ys III which made it worse when The Dawn of Ys wasn't released in the U.S. It must have been cool to play it back then. I have to say before Oath in Felghana I think Ys IV: The Dawn of Ys had become my favorite Ys title. I relied heavily on Deuce's guide myself, since that was my first import game. I think I should play it again.

I love Ys IV The Dawn of Ys! I just bought it again! It's mint and it includes the spine card and adverts. He he he!

Some of the best Ys guitar arrangements ever! The lava pits area and that field area where it is raining are among my favorite pieces of music in the game. If Falcom ever remakes it for the PC, they must also include those little operatic sounding vocal bits, like in the LeFance Shrine.
