Ys IV: Mask of the Sun - A New Theory (Taito) - 7, 6, 7, 5 - (25/40)
This is actually higher scores than I expected. At least its an improvement over the Ys III scores.

More then likely, I'll enjoy it more then the original, since one of my gripes with the original, is the battle system has no diagonal's!  |

Thats a good point about no diagonals in the original. What really kept me in the game for the original was the very good soundtrack. I'm really hoping to hear all those great tunes of the original in this PS2 remake.

Eh, I generally liked the music better in Dawn of Ys, though, in some ways, I prefered the fact that there were more fast paced songs in MOTS, it's kinda confusing I suppose. Either way, can't wait to here what they do with the music as well!

This game has been reviewed that fast? Have I been sleeping under a rock!  Thats a good point about no diagonals in the original. What really kept me in the game for the original was the very good soundtrack. I'm really hoping to hear all those great tunes of the original in this PS2 remake. I also complain about no diagonals. It made the enemy seem ten times smarter for some reason, but that's my opinion comparing it with the DOS version of Ys I. The soundtrack is very good, especially the Theme of Adol '93 or whatever the title is. But hey, it is Ys after all.  |

Well the game should come out by the end of the week in japan. Game reviews usually occur around the same time of the release.

Yeah, I actually just beat MOTS last night for the first time, & I can now totally say I LOVE DOY over MOTS! The only thing I wish that DOY had was more fast paced tracks, other then that, MOTS is a stinker in comparison to DOY, but I think the PS2 version might be an improvement over the SNES version, even with the somewhat jerky animation I saw in the video of it. Still, I hope that rumor of a remake of DOY for PC is true!

Still, I hope that rumor of a remake of DOY for PC is true! They say Falcom has gotten the rights for YsIV: The Dawn of Ys and are planning to remake it, and just like Mask of the Sun - A New Theory - It's going to be different, but still sort of the same game. |

It has been rumored on Japanese game sites and message boards. It's not for certain, but one can always hope. And it seems likely since they just made The Oath in Felghana, don't you agree? |

To me it seems less likely,, I'd think they'd want to release a new game next, but like I said I'd LOVE a remake of it! Especially if it meant they decided that DOY is cannon for some odd reason. |

if they are haveing alot of success and enjoyment releasing the Ys games over (III and IV) useing the newer Ys 6 game engine and graphics i can only pray they go back and redo 1 and 2 over as well. I know they have already remade the games as Ys complete, but lets face facts there is about 10 plus releases of Ys 1 and 2 on the market over the years and the prospects of seeing it again in the future updated once again is not a unrealalistic idea. can you imagine how awesome that would be the original 2 with Ys 6 graphics and gameplay? i also hope we get a new envisionment of Ys V Kefin. this way the PC will have a nice updated set of the whole series.

I'm also hoping the remake of Ys V actually happens. Since Taito announced last year of doing III,IV,V remakes, there hasnt been any information of Ys V since. Maybe it will be revealed sometime this summer.

I preordered Ys IV PS2 from play-asia.com and I think it looks promising. I loved the dawn of Ys way more than mask of the sun, but there were also some cool parts in mask of the sun. I thought the part where you have to carry Lilia around that dungeon was funny, but it had one of my favorite tracks from the game and it was cool. I was able to get the music from zophar I liked it so much! I hope that same piece of music is in the new version. I have to compliment sideshow on that profile video. That might be the funniest thing I've ever seen!!!!!  I was also laughing histerically when I first saw the Zangief avatar. I mean who the hell thought of doing that! I had to spread the word. |
