Hello, I'm new to these boards. I just beat the game. It asked to save the clear data, and I did so. Is there a secret dungeon or something? I'm missing like 4 slots in my items, 2 armors, 1 sword, and 2 shields.
While it's cool they made all the dungeons so monstrous, they should have implemented a map system. I think I wasted a lot of time dungeon crawling to scour for all the items. I'm a pretty good explorer, but I'm surprised I missed some armor and one sword.
Last *SPOILER ALERT* and a few rants. - - - - - - - Was I supposed to obtain the Selceta seeds before I fought Remonos? I had the fire sword before I fought him, so it was possible to go the Ice Mountain Cave, bust down the ice wall, and get the Selceta seeds.
I remembered the music in the SFC version to be really good and diverse, but it seems this remake only had like 8 of those songs. They should have had animated cutscenes. The opening didn't really cut it for a remake. The game weighs in at about 2GB. There was a *lot* of running to do, especially before you get the warp sword. The wing also helped, but it game too late in the game. Also, what happened to the Rance Village, Zeptik Village, etc. Most of the connections from Ys I and II were removed. For example you were supposed to get the wing from Goban. It's like the same wing you left in Ys I before heading into the tower. They also changed the scenario order a little bit. It's cool, but it would have been nice if it connected a little more. The combo system is nice, but you never really have to use anything except X. (Although I do the square, square,X,X,O combo on bosses) I liked the old school style where you flank them with the directional pad, and they explode to bits. That's what made it fun. At least most of the swords are useful in this game.
Hopefully they do a good remake with Ys V. As I remember maps in Ys V were HUGE. Hopefully they include a minimap. Updating the fighting system would be nice too. Charging magic was kind of annoying, and the only useful spell was fireball ><.

Ah yes, Lemnos, Remunosu... couldn't quite remember if it was a モ or ム Anyway, I was really hyped up last year when I found out about the III, IV, V remakes. I haven't played the Ys III remake yet tho. I didn't really like it for the SNES/SFC. It seems nice, but the game is extremely short, I don't know how they can make it better, it's still sidescrolling with the RING power system *bleh.* But oh well, I'll probably scour later to see if there's any goodies from the Clear Data. It's hard to believe this game can stand on its own in the markets. It's kind of a slap in the face for Ys fans. Maybe they should have bundled III and IV or something. At least the voicings were all right :/

So, there are Tonkinhouse exclusive tracks? Huh, no wonder there is a mix of tracks in this one, since there are songs in it, that we're in Dawn of Ys but weren't in the original MOTS. Not to mention that they took out the Yngwei Malmsteen song which was the final boss music when fighting Eldeel, I forget where it was used in Dawn of Ys, but it was probably taken out due to copyright stuff, I'm surprised they got away with it way back then as it is! Hmm, I'm still waiting for it to arrive, I hope I atleast somewhat enjoy it. The original battle & magic system for MOTS was terrible, it sounds like it's improved in this one. As for the level layout, there's nothing to rave over in the original version, as it too got confusing, mainly the Silver District.

I quite enjoy this game. I agree some of the areas look too generic but the game seems more enjoyable to me than the SNES version. I'm still trying to figure out where the Earth elemental sword is located!

***HINT*** - - - - - You need the lightning sword with the lightning ornament attached before you get the earth sword. The earth sword is located in the temple where you first meet Carna. Since it's dark inside, Adol will suddenly remember the lighting sword. Then you just charge the lightning sword, bring out a lightning block, and smash it with circle to light up the cave.

Thank you so much for the assistance. I had no idea what Adol was saying in that cave when I couldnt advance any farther. I am a westerner playing a japanese game.

I've made it to the yellow pyramid in the sky where you fight the winged angel. When I first played this boss, I was suprised how challenging he was compared to the wimpie bosses before him. I noticed you can allow him to take you down to 1 hit point and a scene will appear with Adol falling down through the sky. I was able to load back to my previous saved data and actually beat him. The funny thing is that pretty much the same cut scene happens with Adol fallen down through the sky. Its a live or live situation. You cant die on this boss. I wonder if the story changes from this point depending on how you approach the boss? Anyhow, I believe I'm getting close to the end. I'm progressing with me beating the winged angel instead of him beating me to see what happens.

I have a feeling this remake has multiple endings. I didn't know it was possible to beat Lieza's brother (the angel). I just assumed that you had to lose the fight. Also, I think the selceta seeds were meant to be grown to give to Carna's little brother to save his life after you beat him. I'm going through the game again after finals

I also have a hunch that those selceta seeds were grown to save Carna's brother. I didnt get the seeds until after I did that particular mission. When I went back to try to save him, he wasnt there. Theres a few items I have that I have no idea the purpose of them. If I knew japanese then I would be able to approach every mission with the utmost certainty. I'll probably beat the game for the first time later tonight.

Pretty certain Eldeel is not Leeza's brother. Whoops, maybe I scan text a little too fast lol. The first FAQ just came out on gamefaqs, but it only covers up to when Adol meets Gazok in the Ice Cave.

Ok, I finally beat this game. I was unable to find 1 item, 1 sword, 2 armors, and 2 shields. For those of you that love spoilers, this end boss is a ripoff of Ark of Napishtims end boss. I guess I'll wait for the gamefaq to update to find out what excactly I missed. I still found this game much better than the SNES original and I am awaiting for Oath in Felghana now!

Yeah, I wonder what that last sword is. Maybe with the clear data, you can go further into the crater (past the area where you fought lemnos). As for the armors, I have no idea where they could be, as I've thoroughly explored all the dungeons. Perhaps you get them from NPCs, like the flame armor from the Komodo chief, but I think I've talked to all the NPCs. It makes sense that they would be lightning and earth armors, since they are placed after the flame armor and before the defender and silver armor/shield, but I won't really know until I scour with the clear data. :/ The following places may be worth checking: - The church ruins before the Ice Cave - The area where you fight Lemnos in the Crater - All the sword shrines. - The moon temple (place where you place the 5 swords in front of the Goddess Statue) - The sewer in Selrei (might be a new opening) - The cabin behind the mine The clear data must be used for something, otherwise what's the point? I didn't see any Hard Mode options either.

I tried going back to where you fight Lemnos but it wouldnt let me. I found some sort of item back at that ice temple where you find the ice stone. What the heck are the two red and blue items on the lower right hand side of the item inventory screen? If you have the earth sword, you can go back into the fire cave and find a blockade to diminish. There is a chest in there that contains another item I have no idea what its purpose is. You can find a bottle by the docks in promarock by the shore. I really dont know what the selceta seeds do?
So all in all there is a bunch of mystery's. I do want to play the game again eventually but not until that faq is complete on gamefaq. Not knowing what the hell people are saying in the game probably explains why I missed some items.

The red and blue items you're describing should be the ice and flame ornaments for the swords. The blacksmith takes those stones and processes them into ornaments for your sword. If you scroll down in the item list, you find similar items representing the other elements. The bottle by the promorock docks is probably Lieza's letter in the bottle that you notice while on the ship. I'll have to investigate the ice temple and fire cave to check out the other items you mention.
As for the faq on gamefaqs, I'm not sure you'll be able to get plot from it. It's seems like he doesn't know what's going on, and goes on instinct.

I thought the stones were what the blacksmith needed to mount on the swords. I remember I couldnt even enter the blacksmiths house unless I had the ice sword and ice stone equipped.

Yeah, those stones are required to make the ornaments, which are then mounted onto the swords.

(Needs Japanese language support to view in your Browser) Here's my item list and their rough translations:
薬草 = Herb ウィング = Wing ロダのお守り = Roda Charm (I have no idea what this does) セルセタの秘薬 = Selceta's Secret Medicine
古代文字解読書 = Ancient Text Deciphering Notes 手紙の入っていたピン= Letter in a Bottle エクスペルオーブ = Expel Orb (No idea what the function is) セルセタの花の原種 = Selceta Seeds
Selceta's Secret Medicine can be bought at the Kasnan Clinic.
Yay! All the items done!
I found the last sword! Unfortunately it's bought at the Selrei weapon shop, and not an elemental sword. It's called the Broad Sword.

Your right, the secret medicine is in that heath clinic. All the items have been discovered now. Your also right about the weapon shops in Selrei. I bought the last sword and 1 new shield and armor. Adol can level up to 50 and thats max. All there is left to get is the last shield and armor. I tried going to all the town shops and nobody has them. The only shop that is suspicous is the promarock shop. There is a armor on display and you can examine it but not buy it. So the last armor and shield is the third to last in the inventory screen. Maybe there in the tower somewhere? The one before it and one after it were in the tower.

Sorry, when I tried editing my post, all my Kanji/Kana were replaced with 5 digit codes. I didn't want to mess it all up, so I made additional posts. Can I just type in Japanese natively in the edit box, and will it show up normally?

Finally finished this game last night. I was pleasantly surprised. At first I thought I was going to be let down. No way though, not for me. I love this version. I think it deserves to be called an Ys game, and it was way better than the original Mask of the Sun in my opinion. I give it an 8 out of 10. Thanks to all those who gave me hints when I was stuck.
