I advice against it. It's not fun and that's the most important thing, isn't it? But like Deuce said, if you're a collector (like me), then by all means - get it. But not now. Wait until it's in the bargain bin.

Same here. I stopped playing YsIII when I got to the cursed mine. I stopped playing YsIV after beating the boss in the snow place since I don't know what to do after that. Boring games - unfortunately.

If you want the greatest quality Ys game, I too say don't get it. Just wait for Oath in Felghana. I had to get it because ever since I played Ys I & II for the TG-16 CD, I have been an Ys fiend. Though I played it and finished it, I enjoyed it enough to where I don't think I wasted my money on it. If only every dungeon were as good as the last two, I would give a different response. I thought I was gonna go blind in that earth cave. I mean I could barely see anything. It was dark and unlinear, the lightnng sword barely did anything to help and I couldn't teleport out of there! You get the picture.

This thread should be called, "Post away if you hate this game".

I like the game, I tolerate the level design......barely, I do like the controls more then the original MOTS, I just got really frusterated with the SNES MOTS. I haven't beaten the game yet, I'm at the part where Komodo get's overun by Romuns, hate the run back n forth everywhere instead of warping. But, I usually have no problem avoiding enemies, which makes it go by faster. There are some who enjoy it more then me, & actually put it up with Dawn of Ys.....don't believe that.....atleast in my opinion, Dawn of Ys is the best of Ys, atleast until Oath comes out

Least there will be no confusion as to whether the game is any good, heh.

I enjoyed this game as well. I just wish they had a map system for the caves. Although Ys games are not known to have map systems.

I'd say the SNES version is MUCH better than this one. I loved Mask of the Sun, I enjoyed every minute of it. This game is hardly playable. I gave it two hours. Then I just couldn't go on. I get bored just thinking about it!

I still say it is worthy to be called an Ys game, but I wished there were more events and music from the original MOTS. Too many songs from the Dawn of Ys appeared where they didn't belong, in my opinion. Once I got in the fire cave, the music got better to me. It is worth playing to the end (if you bought it) just to play those last few dungeon areas. I thought they rocked! One thing that bothered me though was that some pieces of music were incomplete. It seems like Taito is trying to keep the same style music in it's Ys remakes. Will it be too much to ask to keep Ys V sounding orchestral like the original? Just before you fight Galbalan in Ys III, they just kept repeating the first part of that song only and it bugged me . I just kept waiting for it to finish but it didn't. I think Falcom would have done it differently....

If you're comparing it toward the PC Engine music, of course that'll be true for Galbalan, because his boss theme is extended on the PC Engine version. As a matter of point, the SNES version of the game (which is the only other version I'm familiar with) loops at roughly the same spot. In fact most of the earlier Falcom game music, loops at roughly 30 seconds, standard. Sometimes 45, sometimes 60 seconds. They rarely deviated beyond that. I'm not entirely sure why it was standardized like that in the game industry, perhaps it was deemed 'enough' for a proper loop or something. As far as Taito's arrangements go, it's almost as if they took the original notations and plugged them in faithfully, and played them with their own instruments. It's a rather lazy thing to do (but it's not as if Falcom isn't guilty of doing this as well).

I actually liked Galbalan on the PS2 Ys III. It was the part just before you fight him. When you play the game, you'll see what I mean. They did the same thing in Ys IV in some parts, I still like most of the music though.

One thing about the music in Ys: The FM77/7 version of Ys I is the only version that actually plays the whole final battle music.

Cool, thanks, I didn't know that, the versions of Ys I have played are Famicom, PC Engine, Sega Master System, and Ys Eternal Story PS2. I always learn something new on this site.
