Hi my name's Kai , I'm 26 and I'm from Hannover, Germany.
I have absolutely no Ys background, meaning I didn't play any title as recently as this week
I have a long video gaming background, though. Beginning with the Age of 5 we had a C64 and an Atari2600.
With the age of 10 and endless bugging of my parents i got a gameboy, soon a nes followed then Genesis, SNES, PS1.
Up to that time you could say I was pretty much a mainstream user.
With the Age of ~18 I discovered my love for retro games and collecting began
I also got interested in technical aspects, modded many consoles myself and began preferring import hardware and software over PAL stuff due to the high percentage of unadapted PAL games and the technical disadvantages associated with them.
You can find a (not 100% up to date) listing of my collection here: www.gamedb.org/collection/
Some weeks ago I stumbled upon Ys and riggs translation site. Since Zelda ALTTP is one my my all-time favourites and Ys promised to be kinda similar to a degree I decided to give it a try and purchased the Ys1+2 eternal collection.
My impressions so far (just beat the bat boss): It's a game where you can certainly feel its age despite the updated graphics. I'm especially talking about game design and balancing.
I'm pretty sure these two titles won't affect me very much. They're just too old. I think you have to have old memories associated to the title when first played it, when it was a state-of-the-art title.
Same goes with the old NES Zelda titles that I first played int the late 90s. They too couldn't fascinate me anymore.
But I definetaly like the principle of Ys and there are many more modern titles so I sure will check out the other parts as well.
ok these lines have to suffice for the time being
