Ok, let me throw this problem out at you computer people. Lately, my computer has decided to waste the system resources and slow my computer down. When I start the computer, there is almost 90% but when I run a few programs and other mumbo jumbo it falls drastically to 60 - 75% I can't figure out the problem If I run something like Paintshop or Photoshop, it would hang the desktop a bit. Wait for a minute or so, it will be ok unless you delete stuff off the desktop. Check the system resources and I would get about 30 - 40% left... Is there like a disk fragmentation problem? virus (i'm sure it's virus-free)? spyware/adware (clean that too)? or something i dont know about? Cause last year I had already added another 256meg to the 128meg that was there (max 512MB). It's a shared video card, so should I get a knew one? I can't figure out where the problem is coming from Is it possible to get the memories back without restarting?

if you are running windows xp you might have a problem, windows xp requires continuesly 128 Mb RAM, so if you have 512, you only have 512-128=384 for other programs.
also you might run ad-aware and your virus scanner it could be a problem like that too.

No, no, I'm on ME... I've ran adaware... usually it's cookies... This only happens when I'm doing something heavy duty. ie using photoshop or words and you get this "Do you want to leave the data on the clipboard?" I always click no cause I dont need it but it still slows the system from time to time. The other problem is... some programs are hoggin up % to 10% of memory. Is that normal? I mean the solution is to restart but I hate restarting unless it's totally neccessary. BTW, on XP (i've got 3 computers running on 98se, Me and xp) there is a local area connection icon in the taskbar. I accidentally closed the one that shows the internet ip address... and I can't get it back... know how? I'm not talking about the one that shows you activity. I want the one that indicates the ip addy. This one isn't really a huge problem but it's annoying due to my stupid fingers

Not sure about that IP problem.... Anyway, you'd want to reinstall, I'm almost certain most of your problems would be solved if you reinstalled Windows. (I've had similiar problems and it has always worked).

You really think it's that bad? Sure, it takes about a day to get things right, but it's still OK. Also, it feels really good with a clean, fresh Windows.
