So... I suppose I've done this a bit out of order. I'm posting my introduction after I've already made a handful of posts and threads over the past week or two.
I am a fledgling Ys fan, though a long-time acknowledger of the series. It was one of those things I had always thought... "Hmm, that looks like something I would enjoy. Maybe one day I'll get into it. Meh, taking a nap sounds easier."
On a chance encounter, I stumbled across a link from wikipedia to Nightwolve's translation site. Having just recently made an account with Himeya for the purchase of Jump Superstars (worth it), I went ahead and ordered Ys I & II Complete. Around the time I got it, I also decided to play through the original Ys. I enjoyed the remake more. I really like dialogue and it just has a lot more of it. Also, the I enjoyed the movement in the remake much more. It's fairly slow and clunky in the original, though to be expected.
Still, I can definitely say it must have been amazing for its time. Back when the entirety of story in most games could be found across the back of the box and a page or two of the manual, I was impressed by the amount in Ys.
Anyway, I look forward to lurking around here and increasing my Ys knowledge and playing through the other games. I have Ys III for the SNES, and I suppose I technically played some of.. but I bought it back when it first was released here in the states and I don't really remember anything about it (except that I was bored with it after the first day). I also found a translation done for Mask of the Sun by Aeon Genesis(I believe that's the group's name), so I could play that. It seems I've read more favorable information about Dawn of Ys, though, so I'm not sure which (if not both) I should play. Also, I don't really know where to get ahold of Dawn of Ys. Was it a PC game? If so, where could I buy it?
Ah, well. Also, is there any form of translation for Ys V? I'm kind of a fan of playing things in sequential order, so I likely wouldn't buy and play Ark of Napishtim without being able to play IV and V.
Oh, and.. not sure if it's worth the money, but I ordered the anime DVDs for the Ys series over Amazon, as well. I figure if nothing else, it has a nice looking box that I can put next to my Ys I & II Complete package.
So, all in all, I'm a fledgling fan who wants to play all things Ys. And I spent a long time rambling about that. Heh. Hope that wasn't too much of a waste for an introduction. Or too lacking in personal information.
Thanks for having me aboard. Good day to you all.
