Hi i just got back from the Speilberg remake of War of the Worlds, i thought it was fantastic. did any of you see it yet ? if so what did you think? I am a big fan of the original version so i was highly anticipating this new version. i was not disapointed at all i was in fact very impressed, the Alien Tripods were very well done and would have made HG Wells proud. the film was very action packed and the special effects and story were very good. i am very proud the Steven made this movie i could see no one else doing it right.

there thankfully is not a over use of special effects in this one, early on and in a few parts but for the most part it is mainly a family trying to survive and constantly running from the aliens. alot of suspense and not overkill starwars style special effects, it is a excellent balance of the 2 , story and visual. i hope you like it i know i did. you should check out the original as well, it to was quite good for its time.

I confess that I peed my pants while watching this movie. It was very frightening.

Overall I wasn't impressed. I've seen the original and all the rmakes before I watched the recent one. And I must say that the whole thing pisses me off. They left out so much from the book. I actually left before it ended.

Hmm it was alright, i didn't really like it that much, there were just too many errors and messed up things that were in there, Especially since they choose that time of all time that they've watched over mankind to attack, and the fact that they didn't know that thier only problem was something that lived all over in this planet....Im not going to say much more ^_^

Yeah, an old thread, but I just watched the DVD last night. I was impressed! Geez, didn't expect to be feeling a little paranoid after watching, but I was. I loved it, Speilberg is definitely getting more violent as time goes on.
On a side note, I went outside after watching it with a friend about 1:00am and saw a shooting star! Wierd, it was very colorful, I saw the whole thing appear and shoot across the sky. Just didn't think I would see anything like that after watching a sci-fi movie.

glad you liked it i am a huge fan of the original, and even with the few errors i loved this version as well. It was incredible to finally see the tripods after all these years done right i also love the fact that they focused more on the family trying to escape and stick together then a bunch of big overhyped special effects like they did in Independece day. chris

Everything was made so believeable in the film I've added it to my list of "can't sleep after I watch it alien movies." At the top of that list is "Fire in the Sky" and "Communion," which REALLY creeps me out.

yes the broadcast is another classic, it really did stir up problems i heard that some people were so scared that a few of them commited suicide for fear of being taken away by aliens. kind of sad when you think about it.

I saw in the theater and i must say it had superb SFX. However the acting was atrocious and really dragged the movie down. To much time was spent in that dumb basement of that house that was magically untouched the whole time while the surrounding area was completly ravaged. The movie held decently close to the original book and the ending was the same.
i'd give it 2 thumbs out of 5
and say don't bother spending money to rent watch at a friends place who has it lol

how could u possibly not like the acting?? that little girl realy did wonders, and remember the scene where they had to stay in that basement with that man? that guy was nutts.
People miss the whole point of the movie. It's emphesis wasnt story and plot, it was about how people would take to such a situation if it ever realy happened. Frankly, i was tense and at the edge of my seat through the whole movie.
and a lot of people complain that Tom Cruise was the one do beat them, the main character, so easily yet no one else had tried before. Thats because anyone else would probably be too scared and they wanted to show how he would risk his life and try something drastic to save his daughter's life, even though he probably never seemed like a good parent before all this happened. and this story is about the average guy who would be the one to beat the odds when thrown into such a situation, what do u expect would happen? its about the lucky one who survived the situation. He started off as someone who seemed would never amount to anything, yet he came out to be the one to save america and his daughter from the threat.
this is supposed to be a new version of the old radio classic, not a remake. it has it's own vision seperate from the old story. im glad its something new and not like the old movie or radio story.
i went in to the movie not knowing anything about Tom Cruise outside of films and i didnt have any expectations for any reason, i hadnt seen any other version of WotW. I have heard the radio drama now and that too is amazing, especialy for it's time.
4/5 for me. best hollywood film for 2005 would be batman though.
