Hi all, just to say what a great place I found here after all these years as a Falcom gamer. Skip to the last sentence if you don't want to be bored by my ranting...err... history
Started off 10+ years ago when I played Chinese translated versions of Brandish games on DOS. But what captured my heart later were the Gargarv Trilogy games. But I never completed those due to crappy and buggy Chinese DOS ports.
I also had my first taste of Ys at around the same time but again it was on crappy Chinese DOS ports of the PC98 versions. How I hated myself for not knowing any Japanese.
Come 5 years later, the Chinese became cleverer and made decent Windows translations of Ys I and II eternal and the Gargarv games. I could only get my hands on some of the games and again I was left unsatisfied...
I then found solace in other channels, namely anime, manga and English PC games and one way or another I managed to build up my Japanese skills, basic as it was. With my newfound skills, I managed to get my hands on "copies" of the Gargarv Trilogy games and Ys Eternal and I had a great time reliving my memories.
In the meantime, Falcom had games that came and went, ie. VM Japan and Zwei. But it was not until a new Ys game was announced that I was finally excited in a long long time... Ys 6.
As I had no money at the time, I resorted to *cough* undesirable methods *cough* to get my hands on a "copy" of the game. I plugged it in and my world was changed forever. The rest was history.
Well not exactly, I finally got a job and went on a buying spree for whatever Ys PC game I could get my hands on. Bought and fell in love with the recent Legend of Heroes 6 series and now happily bashing Arena monsters in Ys Origin. I'm also waiting in anticipation for the first news I can preorder Legend of Heroes 6: The Third.
So there you have it. My long-winded introduction of myself. For those who actually read it, they must going WTF? And for those who skipped, let me say how glad I am to have found this forum and to be its member. Oh, I am not Chinese although I know the language and my Japanese still kinda sucks.
Ys Rocks! and Falcom Forever!!
