ive been looking around, and cant seem to find what i'm looking for. i've searched all over the web, and can't find a complete walkthrough for the nintendo version of the first Ys. all the walkthroughs i've seen stop at the mines, which just so happens to be where i'm stuck. if anyone knows where i could find a complete walktrough for the game, that would be of great help. otherwise, if someone could just help me to get through the mines, that would also be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.

you know, i couldve sworn i looked there (actually i know i did) but somhow i missed this one, thanks a lot Limendy. really appreciate it. and yes MP83, i've noticed there are quite a few differences between the nes version and the one i had for my pc (tandy 1000) when i was a kid. even though i mustve only been 7 or 8 when i played, i had remembered it as being one of my favorite games ever. i never beat it back then (though i made it A LOT further then i am now) so when i saw it for nes recently at a used store, i obviously had to buy it. i never even knew it was MADE for nes befor that. thanks again to both of you. now i'm off to conquer the wonderful world of Ys

so when i saw it for nes recently at a used store, i obviously had to buy it. i never even knew it was MADE for nes befor that. That's strange, I didn't know either. Mostly because I don't think it was ever released for NES. I'm pretty sure that the Famicom version was only released in Japan, and the rom was translated several years ago. So either bootleg carts exist, or... well, I don't know, you tell me. Anyone want to shed some light on this?

There's no NES version of any Ys game. Just the Famicom ones. Ys1-2 got fan-translated a couple of years ago and Ys3 got fan-translated by Deuce pretty recently.

Am I the only one that doesn't make a distinction between Famicom and NES?

No, for me Famicom and NES are the very same thing. : ) (Though this is not very correct, because some games like 'Ganbare Goemon Gaiden' can only be played on a Famicom for some reason which I forgot xD But whatever, they are the same 8-bit console anyway)
Btw, I still ought to play NES' Ys I version 'til the end. = )
