Hi, I'm a pretty new fan to the series.
It started when my friend bought me a Japanese version of Ys Eternal Complete. I consider myself to be an rpg freak, considering I played every Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, Tales of ..., Wild Arms, Breath of Fire, etc etc. games. I can't believe i overlooked Ys. I was pretty bummed out since I had to translate it on my own, then I realized that there was an english patch. That lead me here.
Later on I bought Oath in Felghana and Origins, but from reading what you guys said here, I decided to save it up for last. It appears only to be a side story and a prologue anyway. I couldnt find a hard copy of Ys IV and V, so I had to download the rom. I also bought the American version of Ys VI, and I was amazed on how this gem was unknown. From here I played Oath and Origins, and pretty much made Ys one of my many favorite series.

Welcome! It's always great to see new folks discovering Falcom! Also, I believe Felghana was more like a re-envisioning of Ys III and not exactly a sidestory. Hirm, I think if you're brave enough to check out Yahoo! Japan Auctions, you might be able to snag Ys IV (both PC Engine and SFC) and V (regular and Expert). eBay might have them as well but I assume you've already checked that?

Yeah Ys IV SFC and PCE are pretty common on Ebay nowadays. Expect to pay $10 for the SFC game and 20-30 (or even sometimes 40, with spine card) for the PCE one. Ys V is not exactly common there, but it shows up from time to time, and it usually goes for $15-25. Ys V Expert is fairly rare on YJ (in YJ terms, which means there's always at least one copy available for a decent price, rather than a dozen), and very uncommon on Ebay. Its price is very random though, it can be had for around $20-80. Oh and welcome by the way. Sorry, I got caught up in this. I just love talking about The Buying of Ys™.

Hey, looks like someone forgot to disable smileys in their post. Or was it intentional?

Whoops I typed that rather fast. And I meant Ys III being a general side story to the Ys storyline. But yeah, forgot, there is no Ys Eternal Complete, only Ys Complete, now that I look at my box.

Hey, I don't know about Ys V, but Ys VI is related to Ys itself, much more than Ys III for sure. Have you forgotten about Alma?
But indeed, the Ys series became more of a synonimum of Adol's adventures, being related to the land of Ys or not.
