Hi there - Is there a comprehensive FAQ or walkthru on how to install Ys I-II Complete in Vista? I just recieved the discs from Falcom in the mail today and was very saddened to run into all sorts of trouble installing. I have the english patch, but am under the impression I need to install the game first, then apply the patch correct?
The problem I am having appears to be in the creation of a file in the save folder. I followed the steps outlined in another thread, of creating an application data folder off of a new dir off c: - and that helped me get past that first hurdle. Now I get an error message that ends with: E:\YS1_CMP\SAVE\.....TXT Where "...." is Japanese text and E is my dvd rom drive.
I am thinking that possibly my version of Windows Vista is complaining at the attempt to create a filename with Japanese characters.. ?
Has anyone encountered something similar? Any help much appreciated.. thanks!
-Bill

You always get that text file error regardless of OS, unless you run the installer in Japanese mode (or using Applocale). Not sure how to do that in Vista.
An easier way of installing it is to just copy the entire YS1_WIN and YS2_WIN folders from the disc.

ah, ok I'll try that.. but to clarify, I'd copy the entire ys1_cmp to say: c:\mydata\Application Data\FALCOM ? Or should I just copy the save folder there, and the rest of the files to c:\FALCOM or something?
Once copied am I then done and can run the patcher?

You can put the folder wherever you want. I guess the place you keep other games and software would be good.

awesome - just copied the folders, ran the patch and that did it.. It's always nice when things turn out to be much simpler than expected..
thanks !

Just thought I'd mention that I was running into the exact same error but managed to get the games to install properly without any errors by switching my locale settings in Vista to Japanese. It can be changed via the administrative tab under the regional settings window. It will require a reboot but you will not see any differences in Vista after enabling the language other than no more errors with the Vista version of the Ys games during an install.

I'm also running Vista on my PC and installed it using the "copy all folders and files" and it always works flawlessly. I make sure to always NEVER copy the "Ys2Data" file and the "Save" folder..those are the ones that can make things a bitch. Other than that, it's pretty simple to do it that way..
