Umm.. so I beat Velagunder and then the screen went static-y and the game froze. What gives?

I'm sorry to ask this, but is it possible for you to take a screenshot of Velagunder for me? Maybe I can recall something that way...
Anyway, for now, I don't have much to suggest, except for one thing: so far, you have always set the emulator's CPU cycle to 6500 by pressing CTRL+F12 seven times, right? Well, this time, don't, and beat Velagunder that way. Only set the cycle to 6500 after you defeat it and save the game.
By the way, were you at least able to move right after beating Velagunder? If so, you could try saving the game with God's Diary right after, and then closing the emulator: you can bypass many bugs in Ys II Special that way, by restarting the emulator at certain moments.

I'll test Hide N' Seek's upload on PSP Dosbox (Build 0.71), and let you know how it goes! // I give up. I can't even get past the slow-ass intro at 6500 cycles. It doesn't read my inputs, and therefore refuses to actually play.

// I give up. I can't even get past the slow-ass intro at 6500 cycles. It doesn't read my inputs, and therefore refuses to actually play. The game has some rather odd controls. It's "ALT" for accept, and "CTRL" for cancel, I believe. Just press one of those during the intro to get to the title screen. Also, some of the "F" keys are used to access the various menus, but I don't remember what does what exactly. Anyway, thanks for the upload, Red! Tried it out a little, but I'm a bit pre-occupied with the Complete version of the game. I like how the game seems to give you a choice of the bump system, or actually swinging your sword (although I've yet to do much fighting). EDIT: Oh, you said PSP Dosbox. Well, in that case, this post is probably useless to you.

Yakra said she was about to try Ys II Special on PSP using its DOSBox as well. Seldane and I are eager for the results. xD Anyway, I'm glad to see everyone here trying out Ys II Special.

Lol, Korzic! Hmmm... well, I'll scout around. I did hear of people having issues with controls, etc; and then others using some on-screen keyboard plug-in. // Oh! I was unaware that it had a README... logic would dictate the effing thing would be in the effing archive I had effing downloaded it from! // Now I need a list of controls so I can map the buttons to keys. I haven't played the game in so long, I don't remember what keys do what!

GOT IT... kinda. Still need the full input list. This is what I've got: INPUTMAP up up INPUTMAP right right INPUTMAP down down INPUTMAP left left INPUTMAP cross lctrl INPUTMAP circle lalt INPUTMAP select esc INPUTMAP start enter ...and I'd like Hide N' Seek's dosbox.conf file. That, or Red Hairdo's. Warning: the game *MUST* be playable without manually screwing with the CPU Cycles in mid-play! (Via keystrokes, etc.!) // Once I'm finished, I'll upload an archive which will extract all files to their proper destinations. My copy of DOSBox PSP will auto-boot Ys II Special. // Sound works, music works, game works, it's all quite choppy; slow as ass. I've tried using "cycles=fixed 6500", that didn't work. So I changed it back to auto, and added the lines "autocycle=true mincycles=3000 maxcycles=6500" ...not really much closer here. Plus I need to implement a menu/etc key. // Screw it! "cycles=max" manages to do just fine! Kinda stuttery, but otherwise I can enjoy the opening music... and... ... ... okay, now that I try to actually play the game, it hangs pretty badly. Adol's standing right outside the door. He's not even TRYING to walk into town. He's just standing there... standing there... and I can faintly hear the BGM now. Just so faintly. Like it's not even trying to play. Time to experiment more...

Hell with it! I've NEVER gotten Ys II Special to run right, not even on my laptop! So if there's anyone up for trying to get it done themselves... it's all yours. Just edit the dosbox.conf (in ms0:/PSP/Game/Dosbox/) until you get it working exactly as it should be. Shouldn't be too hard for Red Hairdo and Seldane to figure out how to get it working right on the PSP -- they got it to work on the PC, afterall, an IMPOSSIBLE feat! Oh... and yeah, I didn't map all of the keys to buttons because I don't know what the hell they are. All of that info is written at the very bottom of dosbox.conf!

Wow, it seems you went through some heavy work, Unsavory. Thanks for the heads up! I'll make use of what you just provided us here and see what I can do.

Awesome, thank you! I can't wait to see what you can do! If we can get it to function perfectly on the PSP (which it should be able to; afterall, that port flawlessly emulates the same speed issues my laptop had using dosbox) I will gladly pick it back up again! I mean, Ys II Special rules! I did beat the first boss, and I don't remember what happened after... never did figure out what to do, I guess. // By the way. I did try setting Triangle to F12, so that I could press X (left control or "lctrl") and Triangle to increase the cycles manually... but nothing happened. // In other words, I tried holding X (lctrl) and pressing Triangle (f12), but that did nothing. I deleted the "INPUTMAP triangle f12" entry afterward.

Have we already gotten this show on the road? If not, let's do it. Could somebody please type the characters in the image in Korean in a reply for me? Attachments:

Can't find a memory address if I don't have a hook Wait... do you intend to do what I think you do?! Also, I'd do what you requested, but I know nothing of Korean. I hope a Korean member can show us some light, though. And, sorry Unsavory, not yet. >< I've been a bit distracted with other things lately... However, it's still in the plans.

That's very nice that you would be willing to try to find the strings Xaxio. Unfortunately, even though I have access to type Korean characters, I know nothing of the written Korean language, so even attempting to put together the Hangul letters with various keyboard inputs, I've not had much luck in recreating the dialog in that first screenshot. Hopefully someone who speaks Korean can help you with this project. Thanks for considering hacking it! Not sure if this will help, but here is the wikipedia entry on the Korean alphabet: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hangul-Thomas

It is possible (if very tedious) to input Korean text without a proper Korean keyboard, with knowledge of Hangul (which is actually rather simple) and this page. I did that when stuck in the game, Babelfishing seemingly important text (man did I put a lot of time in this game...) Your sentence would be: 무슨 일이죠? 저 아주미니는 왜 울고 있는 기죠?
