By the way, since lunar was interested in playing this, I just reuploaded Ys II Special, already with DOSBox. (However, I took longer to do this than I had promised. ><) Anyway, I decided to take the opportunity to repost it here, as well, for anyone interested to see. Also two things to keep in mind: - I think my saves are still there, so feel free to overwrite them; - I played this on Windows XP: I do not know if Ys II Special and/or this version of DOSBox work on Windows Vista and 7. Have fun. I also should resume my playthrough, myself. It's a really awesome game.

Yeah, it works on Vista. xD
I couldn't prevent myself from playing this now. So. Much. Fun.

It's been a long time since I logged on here surprised to see the Ys II Special board still going I beat this game by pure luck, no doubt. But it was a fun game. I wouldn't mind uploading my copy also for those interested who can't seem to make it to the end of the game due to possible glitches preventing it. I probably will upload sometimes when I have the time to quickly figure out how to upload files unto the net which I have never done before except through yahoo mail.

I can always upload it for you if you like if you'll send me your "tested and approved glitch-free version". My server that I use is pretty much unlimited as resources go, so it'd be a permanent link. Not that the file was terribly big in file size or anything.

Edit: Oh yeah, any word on possibly getting a Korean translator for this project sometime? I'd still LOVE to play this in English one day!

SkyeWelse: The main issue is finding a hacker than can hack DOS games. =s Translators also are scarce, but at least some have already volunteered. Also, the version I uploaded is as bug-free as it can get. Actually, according to Seldane's researches, the only version that actually had a bug that totally prevented the player from finishing the game was only in the game's very first version, where the player couldn't get into Solomon Shrine. Gladly, that issue was fixed in all later versions, and I'm sure this version I just uploaded is one of those. And I guess so is Hide N' Seek's, naturally. xD Hide N' Seek: Well, it's easy to upload files only to then share the link with someone. It isn't that different from sending files via e-mail; just get to a file-uloading site, and there you click on a button to then choose the file you want to upload. After that, just check the checkbox saying that you agree to the site's Terms of Service and then click on "upload" or something to that effect. I personally use www.sendspace.com/ myself. When the file is uploaded, you'll be given a link, which is the download link for the file you uploaded. Well, *ahem!*, *returns to Ys II Special*.

I have kindof teased with the idea of learning to hack DOS via trial and error, but something tells me that it's not as simple as hacking an NES game.
// I mean if it's not 6502 Assembly, or similar, we can pretty much forget it. With 6502 ASM, all I had to do was find an opcode guide, and I was hacking Faxanadu like a... well, beginner-novice anyway.

This is amazing! I wish they used some of these field themes in a proper version of Ys II. Actually no I wish this version of Ys II was canon and that all remakes were modeled after it

I really, really want an official Falcom remake of this game now, possibly Oath style but I wouldn't be picky. This game is REALLY awesome, and I'd want that remake if for no other reason than for it to be in Japanese so I can actually read it

This is amazing! I wish they used some of these field themes in a proper version of Ys II. Actually no I wish this version of Ys II was canon and that all remakes were modeled after it Two quotes for you, lunar: Hello everyone.I've just found a MP3 rip of Ys II Special. I haven't beaten the game,so,I don't know if it's missing any songs, besides the Termination arrangement. I found it at some Korean site: delios.pe.kr/adlib/mp3/ys2sp.zip. I hope you enjoy it. OK. 112 kbit, 44100Hz mono. I used 256kbit stereo (although it doesn't use stereo sound...)... Anyway, you can get the songs seperately here: delios.pe.kr/adlib/mp3/ys2sp/Download this doods, as this is BY FAR the best Ys soundtrack ever! I'm not joking! Be sure to grab it. Also, wow, I have been reading through this thread again and WOW! I can't believe (again) how long it's been since I last played this game. Best Ys game ever! Oh yeah, also to anyone new to Ys II Special: read through all (yes, ALL xD) the thread before any of you proceed with the game. Pretty much all questions are already answered throughout this thread. How to bypass bugs, issues, and also what to do next... it's all here.

Also, about the music, you can still download each track separately. xD Else, just let me know, and I will reupload them all.

Awesome There are some hidden stuff in the game, such as a powerful sword given to you by Dangoon, the mythical founder of Korea, and some hidden rooms, one of which was filled with developing team members, I believe it was in that water sewage/tunnel. The powerful sword given to you by the mythical founder of Korea is the one secret I was determined to find but never did... found the developers room though. I might start playing this game again feeling the urge. Ys blood runs through my veins

Aah, thanks!
So how canon is this? Does Falcom even acknowledge it?
It's kind of better than all of the official releases of Ys 2 tbh >_>

The thought of Adol even HAVING a death saddens me =\
That said, did JDK oversee the arrangement/composition of the new tracks for this game? They definitely have a different feel to them.

I read the posts over and over, but I still don't get where in that secret area the God's Diary is. I just kind of wander around the trees alot I mean, this is where it is, right? But where, specifically? It doesn't seem like there are any paths that lead out of here Never mind, there's a secret hole in the wall at the top of this. Goddamn Velagunder is hard in this version =\

Didn't you guys say before that it basically tells the story of the Ys II anime? Not really. xD It was actually like this: Ys II game + Ys II anime + extra elements = Ys II Special Also, I'm pretty sure Adol is NOT a silent protagonist in Ys II Special. Also, lunar, yeah, the new arrangements in Ys II Special were never touched ever again. And yeah, they kick ass. Also, I wasn't aaaactually kidding when I said Ys II Special is potentially/possibly the best Ys game ever. And yeah, make good use of God's Diary: you'll need to use it often, especially for the enormous dungeons.
