Honestly? Not a clue. You would hope that they'd be uncompressed and ready to edit, but...? Well, nobody's really gotten into the hacking of YsIIS yet, so there's no telling. Maybe FM-77 could tell you. XD

Sadly, no. I've never ventured outside of 6502 Debuggers or otherwise, NES hacking. DOS would be a new ballgame for me, too.

I must give a word of warning: my plate is currently full between recently-dubbed "Haxanadu" (or TRASH-II, FXR, etc.), my job, a possible Ys VI script check, and taking care of my niece. While I don't mind taking on this project too (and would love to!), I'm still only human and can only take up so many responsibilities at a time. Therefore, from now until "that time", if anyone would like to go for it before I have the chance to tackle this project, you have my (unnecessary) blessing. Otherwise, by all means feel free to wait around for my inevitable attempt to hack away at this beast, inserting text and the like.

No graphics editing would be required.

Well to be clear: It took me a little over five tries before the game would let me rescue Lilia without crashing. That's a little irritating, if I do say so myself. Just incase someone is still wondering, here's how you get past that part with DOSBox without crashing. I just sought for one of my posts here. After I defeated that first Boss from the cavern, the game crashed. It appears that to solve the problem you have to beat the boss without raising the emulator's frameskip. If you read all the topic, you will see that to run the game smoothly in DOS-Box, you have to raise the frameskip from 3000 to at least 6500. Pressing CTRL + F12 will raise 500. So press them 7 times. Though if you want to beat the boss and let the game not crash, raise it only after you defeat it. I was re-reading this thread and........ this game is soooooooooooooo awesome. Why did I stop playing it? Absurd.

Okay, here's the deal: I found Ys 2 Special on a korean website. The site has two entries for the game. One is the regular one. From 1994. The other one says it's from 1996. And it says it's an ENGLISH version. Of course, this seems highly unlikely. But WHY was it posted there then? I became a member and downloaded the game. But damn it!! I CAN'T GET IT TO RUN! I don't think it really is in English, but I HAVE to confirm! I can see the Mantra logo. I can see the Falcom logo. But whenever the intro is supposed to start, it crashes! I have tried it a million times but it just won't work. Does anybody else want to try? Maybe I am just having bad luck. I have uploaded it on Rapidshare, because I don't remember the website I got it from, and it required membership (in korean). rapidshare.com/files/166715586/ys2.zip.html

I'll give it a shot. Chances are, it might be engrish. // That issue used to happen to me with the old Ys II Special, by the way.

Indeed, it is still in korean. So it still needs to be translated.

I can't believe I didn't post this here yet. Well: Just today FM-77 has discovered something EXTREMELY neat. At first he thought MANTRA had only PLANNED to put voice acting into Ys II Special. But the truth is, he found enough evidence and know he's sure that it actually EXISTS! There is a special patch for Ys II Special (lol xD) or something that adds voice acting to the game. FM-77 is still trying to obtain it. ... I personally don't think I can be of much help, but I'm trying to find it too.

I remember there was an Ys II Special ad, in which I even posted here (after FM-77 sent me it), but I don't know if I can find that one you speak of. =/ The spam thread is such a mad dungeon.

I wonder if it's the CD-ROM version that has voice acting.

I'm just hoping there's opcodes involved. I kinda prefer languages I already have some form of understanding. On the other hand, I'll gladly try my luck no matter what language it's in -- unless I have to do straight binary, haha!

Listening to the soundtrack as we speak and it's pretty cool so far. Don't know when I'll be able to try the game out though. Seems like quite a hassle to get it running properly on a newer machine.
