I wish I could find it as I quite liked the arrangements, but so far it doesn't seem like it If I recall correctly the game supports the MT32 MIDI standard, is it possible to run the game with emulated MT32 support instead of the usual Adlib/Soundblaster Yamaha FM synthesizer sound?

What's the point of having SAVE under LOAD in dark blue letters if Adol can save only at an inn? There's actually an item called God's Diary which lets you save anywhere in the game. I remember one of my friends actually played the whole game through to the end without that item. We were all wondering why he was taking such long time to finish the game, and it turned out that he didn't know the existence of that item. You have to go somewhere on the left-bottom corner of the first town and go down from a tree in that area, which will lead you into a hidden room. You'll run into some powerful monsters but you'll find the diary in the treasure chest somewhere there.

The soundtrack is not available for download anywhere, that's for sure. I actually e-mailed Soundtemp asking about that soundtrack way back but they never replied. By the way, welcome aksep! It is REALLY cool to see someone who's actually played the game. I only know one other person who have, and he's Korean. Are you Korean too?

Oh that sucks, but even if they do reply, I'd guess there'd be significant problems associated with copyrights, etc, oh well I guess Soundtemp is busy making game music for online games. And yes, I am Korean. Hypothetically... if it's actually MIDI-compliant, it may also be possible to rip the data directly from the game. I suppose..I wonder what format they used, but I guessit probably is from one of the commercial sequencing programs back in the days? For now I'll be ecstatic if I can just listen to the game music in MIDI instead of the dreaded FM Synth.

And yes, I am Korean. Well, I didn't really ask them if I could download the soundtrack or anything like that. I asked them about the soundtrack in general, who made it, etc. I also asked if there was a CD release of it or something such (which I didn't and still don't believe exists). In the settings program, you can either choose adlib music or no music. There are no other options.

I know who he is and where he can be found, but I don't think he'd be interested in helping. Maybe.

Someone really cool joined. =)
Amazing, I still didn't beat the game (Stopped playing due to the bugs, although I know how to get them fixed).
This game is a holy jewel. I am enjoying it very much. But I'm afraid I'm probably missing a few itens, so I was wondering if is there any FAQ/Walkthrough for that game?

There is, complete with ASCII maps and everything - but it is in Korean. I've used Systranet to translate parts of it, but it isn't helping much. Fortunately a friend of mine has been translating bits of it when I've been REALLY stuck. www.digitalsloth.net/Ys/ys2sp.htm

If someone were to translate it, I suppose maybe two or three people would actually use that translation, hehe. Popular game.

You might be right. Have you tried it yourself, by the way? It is quite entertaining, kind of like Ys 4, but with massive dungeons and areas.

Wow this topic has been resurrected!
I just can't agree with this
The FM sound in this game totally rules!!! I admit I am quite an AdLib fanboy but I have yet to hear someting better coming out of this soundcard! And FM sound is Ys' for the taking... these tunes rock just as much as they do on the awesome PC88 synth!
As for the soundtrack, there is an option to record the sound in DOSbox (either in .wav or emulated format). The DOSbox rendition is not as good as that of a real soundcard but it is better than nothing really.
Also, did anyone experience the sound bug where certain tunes (like the ice ridge theme) will play too fast? At first I was surprised and thought it is DOSbox that plays them too slow.

I started playing this again tonight... I just beat a very challenging boss! Now I have also found that save book thanks to Aksep! Thank you so much for the tip, even though you're probably gone forever. This game absolutely RULES!!! It's extremely entertaining, but the dungeons are just INSANE!! They are bigger than anything I've ever encountered. Damn they are confusing. But I guess that's the whole idea of this game. Play it now! PS: The music is better than in any other Ys game. Seriously. The original songs are fantastic, and the re-arrangements of the old songs are better than all the other arrangements. Soundtemp rules so much.

The original songs are fantastic, and the re-arrangements of the old songs are better than all the other arrangements. Soundtemp rules so much. It is GREAT. xD Indeed, I agree about that. But I wouldn't go far enough to say the re-arrangements are the best version. But yes, they rule indeed. And like you know, I also started replaying it tonight. Great game. Now back to playing...

Yo, a small tip for other future beginners. xD I'm a beginner myself. After I defeated that first Boss from the cavern, the game crashed. It appears that to solve the problem you have to beat the boss without raising the emulator's frameskip. If you read all the topic, you will see that to run the game smoothly in DOS-Box, you have to raise the frameskip from 3000 to at least 6500. Pressing CTRL + F12 will raise 500. So press them 7 times. Though if you want to beat the boss and let the game not crash, raise it only after you defeat it. Now I can continue! *resumes the game* EDIT: OMG! Thanks a lot Aksep!! xD After reading FM-77's post, I remembered the tip you gave us about the "God's Diary"! This item is so well-hidden! xD And it is available since the beginning of the game! It gave me such an eerie feeling (plus with the music's "help"). I also don't think you will see these posts, but I wonder how in the world you and/or your friends discovered this... This game must contain TONS of REALLY secret things. You even mentioned there were rooms you could meet the game's producers and stuff. Great, great game!

Great game! I did some progress today but mostly I just leveled up (I'm at level 60 now). I found a great area for doing that. Now I'm stuck though! I have tried everything and I have checked out the strategy guide extensively, but I can't get any further.

I have tried everything and I have checked out the strategy guide extensively, but I can't get any further. Which strategy guide? That korean FAQ? EDIT: _herb (forgot the name): given by Aisia in the Illusion Woods southeast of the main field; to access this you need to equip a branch-looking item one of the villagers gives you (I think it is Alin, the girl with the piano) Not sure to whom you should deliver them though (the doctor's assistant or Banoa's house directly) Well, I just got at the part to heal Lilia's illness. Indeed, it's the girl with the piano who gives you that branch-looking item. Her house is the one next to Banoa's. Though when I talked with her after beating the first boss in the mine, she didn't give me the item, even after I talked with EVERY being from that town. I don't know what I really did, but then I decided to go to the field. I killed some enemies only for fun. Then I decided to go back to the town. Then I went to 2 houses: the one below the piano girl's house and the one next to hers, which seems to be some sort of library. After that I spoke with the piano girl again. When I checked the inventory, that branch-thingy was there. I have no idea what I really did to trigger to receive the item from her though. xD And you have to give the Flower + Roda Seed/Nut + Herb to Banoa in her house. There's a man there (Dr. Flair, I believe). And presto. Then to continue, go get a key with a man in his house in the north of the village. Then use it in a door located a little before the mine/ ruins start. And so on...
