I rented it from Gamefly and they shipped it today.
I'm probably going to pick up the game this weekend.
Just checked my e-mail and Gamefly is shipping the game to me.
I also went and ordered a copy from Wal-Mart.com
I'm probably going to play and beat the game on the Gamefly version, so I don't have to open my copy (who knows, it could be worth sometime down the line.
I also got the guide coming in.
And I plan on getting the PSP version when that is released (another reason I don't want to open my PS2 version).

Got it. But only had a chance to play it for about 10 minutes. So far, I'm liking it. The CG cutscenes are kind of blah, but the voices I can live with. At least they're not as bad as Ys III for the Turbo.

I just got it also. I dont know why everybody is complaining about the voice acting? I find it fit the games characters quite well. What I especially find amazing is that the original chime when you receive a new item is still intact. This really makes me happy. I think that chime is very distinctive and is the best item receiving chime in video game history.

I own it. Anyway, I found the voice actors to be pretty nice. You should give them a little more credit. ...Except for Silva and Terra so far. Terra's VA needs a gag in her mouth. Badly.
But other than that, the voice acting is competent at least. I find myself enjoying the game.

After hearing how awful Terra was in Japanese I shudder to think of just how bad the english voice must be. Oh right, the opeining had her. GAH the whole game with English dub must be hell.

As far as the voice acting, at least most of the characters put a bit of emotion into it. If your really picky with voice acting then just pick up Metal Gear Solid 2 or 3. These games have the best voice acting I have ever heard in video games.

....I got through listening to the voices of the fairies for the US version.
My thoughts: ohdeargodno.
Okay, I kind of imagined Jue's voice to be .... a little similar to Meowth's voice, but more feminine. Just a little screech. Sera's voice... I imagined to be more stotic, a deep voiced woman. Not a fat woman.
I haven't heard Xisa's voice yet. But ohdeargodno.

While the English voices do have some problems, I have heard a lot worst (play either Megaman 8 or X4 for some really bad voice acting).
I can tolerate the voice acting.

I just got to play the PS2 version for the first time today. I felt it was a fair respresentation of what made the original game cool, so no big complaints from me. I did however turn the voices off after awhile. It's funny...I thought that by working on an English dub myself (Ys 4), I would gain a tolerance and appreciation for other dubs, if nothing else, by virtue of the all the hard work I figure must go into such dubs: an assumption I had based on all the hard work I myself am doing on my dub project. However, I find that rather than gaining tolerance, I have in fact become LESS tolerant of sub-par dub jobs, largely because I feel that I have actually proven that I can do better myself, and that those people don't ACTUALLY put the same level of work into their dub that I do into mine; that they are, in fact, terribly lazy and don't understand the meaning of doing a job you can be proud of. The Japanese voice acting was not much better.
We did glean some entertainment from the English voice acting for awhile. I was playing it with a friend (who is also participating in the Ys 4 dub), and we had some pretty entertaining moments. Many comments were exchanged, ranging from the typical "*sigh*...what were they thinking?" type comments, to ones like when we heard Silva's actor for the first time, and Justin said "Wow. He sounds like he's got ants in the pants." and I just lost it.
Since I can turn off the voices, it's not a big deal to me. Oddly enough, my biggest complaints with the port are things nobody has mentioned yet. First of all, the lack of gibs. Whenever you killed something in the PC version, it flew apart in awesome meaty chunks. This feature is now nowhere to be found. I want my gibs damnit! Second of all - framerate. I realize that the framerate is perfectly acceptible for a console, and even quite comparable to the framerate of other 3d games on the PS2. I realize that the majority of primarily-console gamers will not be cognizant of any problem in the framerate. Unfortunately, I'm SPOILED with my PC, and I'm spoiled with playing Ys VI at 60 fps, so that playing at 40 fps or whatever is chunky enough to bug me a little.
The 3d models were OK. I still think the sprites looked better. At first, it was kind of strange, because the 3d models make it look as if the characters are all interacting in a world that's proportionally much larger than the characters, and some of the colors in them seem kind of strange and overly bright at times. But after awhile, I stopped noticing, so I guess it must've grown on me. As a friend pointed out to me, the framerate is already suffering, and the PS2's hardware is probably way better-equipped to handle all 3-d than it is the 2d sprites in a 3d environment.
Happily, the localization itself seemed decent. That's a relief, since Konami has been known to create some dubious localizations.
Overall, Voice acting aside, it's as good a port as we could have hoped for I think. Back when I first heard that Konami was putting it on PS2, I thought to myself "there's no way the PS2 hardware can handle this without some adaptation", and I think Konami did a pretty good job of balancing which bells and whistles to remove in order to achieve a reasonable framerate for the PS2's hardware. Sound-wise, the 3d sound from the PC version makes a fairly painless transition to pro-logic II surround...though I realize I'm one of the few people out there with the hardware to properly enjoy such a feature.

Realistically, the port is pretty sloppy in several ways. The framerate is lower than it ought to be and the textures are muddy. If KCEJ or KCET had been handling it, you can bet that it would have looked significantly better. The PS2 hardware is plenty capable of handling Ys VI with all its bells and whistles at 640x480. But the port was done by KCE Hawaii, which is not Konami's foremost dev house, by any means. Don't kid yourself. The PS2 isn't new anymore, but Ys VI is not a particularly graphics-intensive game, by any means. Better programmers would have resulted in a much more impressive port. And if anyone knows how to work the PS2, it's KCET and KCEJ. nicely said there sir. the game is rather blurry in the looks department. Also ive thought about the 3d models you can hardly even tell that they are different from the sprites. They look preety much the same - id of rathered they put their time elsewhere than remodelling and animating the whole game again. I've played the PC version and its far more beautiful compared to the PS2 one. i could play the PC version all maxed out on 1280 x 1024 with like 100 fps. it looked preety sharp!
