And only a newbie in this forum...
Hello, my name is Peter and I'm from Holland! My first Ys experience was in 1987 when Ancient Ys Vanished Omen were released on the MSX 2 home computers.
I played that game while NOT understanding any Japanese character. So just play, 'talk' to everybody in the village, then 'talk' again to everybody and you could go on not no anything about the story or mission.
But the game had it magic, it's atmosphere and it's wonderfull music.
Then my all time favorite were released: Ancient Ys Vanished - The Final Chapter. This part 2 was played in the same way part 1 was played...
Same for part 3... Ys 3 - Wanderers from Ys.
I was in love with those real-time RPG's... Turn-based (dragon slayer etc. from Falcom) was not as fun...
And at last... a group called Oasis did a dejap on all Ys games for the MSX. So somewhere in 1995 we could start playing the Ys games in English....
It was again a wonderfull experience....
Well since then I'm a Ys fan... I have all three MSX Ys games original complete and in mint condition (thank you E-Bay).
I have some JDK soundtracks from Ys, some other original Falcom games.
And today I'm joining this Ys forum and still go on...

Hey and welcome! Hope you'll have fun here with us. You're not the only one from Holland here, and it seems like all of you are MSX fans. I guess it is (was) a popular system in Holland. Anyway, I have done the same with many games, talking to everyone again and again until something happens. Golvellius II, for example (also on MSX) (I played part I on Sega Master system - in english!). And of course, YsI, II and III for various systems, as well as YsIV, V and VI. I also agree with you that the MSX versions are great, but my favorite is still Ys on Sega Master system - probably because it was that game that made me love Ys - it was the first Ys game I played.
You used to play Dragon slayer too, huh? Well, I'm a fan of that series as well and next to Ys, it's just another one of Falcom's masterpieces. Although it's nowhere near the greatness of Ys. The MSX versions of Dragon slayer II, III, IV and V and VI are most entertaining. I haven't played the first one on MSX though, but on X68000 and Gameboy. It's not really worth playing it though. That's just too old (for an RPG, that is). I think it's from 1984 or 1985....
Anyway, hope you'll stay here with us and talk about Ys!
Take care!

Thanx!! The MSX systems was/is very popular in Holland...
It was the root for today's many popular games and gamedevelopers like Konami (Metal Gear), Falcom (Ys & Dragon Slayer), Game Arts (Thexder) and also the little ones like Hudson soft...
I will enjoy this forum and hopefully some helpfull contribution from my side...
