Heehee, I saw that the other night while peeking at GameFAQs out of curiosity. Rough translation to be sure... the writer in me desperately wants to adjust that dialogue so it's not so.... stiff. Still, it's nice to see!

Hmmm...Oh my, this is impressive! Now it's possible to play the game and understand it! *prints* I'm not sure about the translation's quality too. But I guess it's better than nothing.

Eh, it's a start. :B Translating is not an easy thing to do, ya know. The author probably did this on the fly as well. I'm sure that, if the she wanted to, she could refine it a few times to make it read more naturally. :3

It usually boils down to getting the intent of the original text down, I suppose. Believe me, I know translating is no small task. I'm at a rather pathetically low skill level here but I've been forcing myself to read and comprehend/translate as much as I can. It hurts the brain sometimes. That being said, stiff dialogue or not, that file made me very very happy when I found it. I can grasp the gist of most of the dialogue, but my lack of kanji knowledge KILLS me when I'm trying to figure out things being said... :-\

Is anyone working on a "patch" to convert into english? I don't know about other people but sometimes i just don't want to translate anything when i'm playing.
Also Lumineux is right. Getting the basic meaning of each sentence is not that hard. But to do a decent translation you have to give thought to the meaning behind the words, the many subtlties that japanese has and the characters to choose how to translate each sentence. Sometimes you have to add, remove or totally change things to get it to work, all the while keeping the intent of the words.

Is anyone working on a "patch" to convert into english? I don't know about other people but sometimes i just don't want to translate anything when i'm playing. I would think that Nightwolve will eventually get to it. :P And ditto on the translating WHILE playing bit cuz it'll turn your few hours of gameplay into DAYS. *cough* >_> Well, that's what I sort of worry about in the sense that things end up being a "gist of" translation though I think my biggest worry is when something ends up being majorly Westernized. (... Just thinking about cartoons.) I suppose in some cases it depends on the target audience to make it understandable for them? D: I hope the author doesn't mind all the critiques that's popping up in the thread. ^^ But hey, it's only by getting feedback that one can improve, yar? That being said, stiff dialogue or not, that file made me very very happy when I found it. I can grasp the gist of most of the dialogue, but my lack of kanji knowledge KILLS me when I'm trying to figure out things being said... :-\ X___x I'm thankful in that I can read a teeny tiny bit of kanji which allows me to understand tiny chunks of dialogue. However, it's never enough to actually comprehend an entire conversation. -____-; I actually find it much more difficult to understand games like Final Fantasy IV in Japanese where, if I remember correctly, everything was in hiragana and katakana. And before anyone asks, indeed I know the game is in English and I was playing it in Japanese for fun. >:E

We can all hope for that patch. Though with the talk around here it's sort of sounding like an eventuality more than a pipe dream. XD
You can't submit a creative work (writing, translation, or otherwise) and NOT expect criticisms. Some will be good, some will be bad. Ideally it should all be helpful in some regard. Hopefully that translator sees it as such.
...also ditto on the translating while reading. Ahaha. ^^; My time clocked on the game is wholly deceptive since a good handful of the hours listed was probably spent staring at the dialogue going "Duurrrrhh... *dictionary lookup, kanji searching* oh yeah, that's what they said.."
And my kanji comprehension is riiiight there with ya, nunuu.. ^^; When I started learning Japanese I really hated it. Now I see the rampant necessity.

Well this is a nice surprise I can tolerate the stiffness of the dialogue when they've translated as far as the Guilty Fire mid-boss seen as that was one of the bits I reeally wanted to understand. The Roos do sound a bit like Falcom's emails though, "Be glad meeting. Person is really after a long time!!" As for the patch, Deuce and Nightwolve have said they'll do it already, and when have they ever let us down? It just might take a while seen as they're both busy.
