As a few of you knew, for my final project at the school where I'm learning sound engineering, I chose to cover SSH's version of the Mario Bros. theme. As of tonight, I am finally finished with it! It didn't come out too bad really, though I wish I could get some better guitar solos (SSH's original solos are impossible to play by real guitarists). Not that the music improves because of it, but my version, unlike SSH's, is actually live! www.justusjohnston.com/temp/JJs%20SSH%20Mario%20Cover.mp3Not really as cool as the original, but I had fun making it. Well, maybe purists who always prefer live instruments to synthesized ones will like my version more. Let me know what you think. Oh, for those who didn't know, SSH is the coolest video game cover band ever...despite the fact that everything is synthesized. It's definately worth checking out. Their site is www.ssh.ne.jp. EDIT: Credits: I did most of the work, but other credit goes to: Guitar (both solo and rhythm) - Danny Harry Bass - Patrick Douglas Drums - Matt Fite Assistant Tech. Engineer - Brian Sheopard Assistant Mix Engineer - Lacory Williams As for my roles, they include the following: Producer, keyboards (performance and also synth programming), mixing, mastering, charting/transcription, and of course, chief engineer.

Yeah, I've heard of the Minibosses, there's also yet another band that plays videogame music. They're called Game Over. I don't know their homepage, but I do know they have one with samples..

Yeah, that would be fun and hilarious! I don't see Nintendo ever going for it though. Shigeru Miyamoto strikes me as the kind of guy who wouldn't understand that kind of humor. And if Koji Kondo ever heard what was done with his music, he'd probably cry.

It totally rocks out. Well done, Justus. *moshes his monitor off the desktop* Let me know if you do any others like that. Well, I'm actually in the middle of building my own studio right now. Well...specifically, I own 20% of it, but I'm going to be the chief engineer there. Anyways, once that gets built, I may very well have the opportunity to make several original tracks as well as other arrangements in much the same vein. Actually, I've always wanted to create remixes of a game's entire soundtrack...preferably one that hasn't been given much attention. I actually had plans for awhile to do a remix of all the music in Phantasy Star IV, as a matter of fact...but then I got a job, so I never even finished a single track.
