This is a really nice place! Anyways, I joined this place mainly because I want to know more about Falcom's games (the only Falcom game I have played is Legend of Heroes VI: Sora no Kiseki FC. I have never played a Ys game yet), since I really loved Sora no Kiseki so much. It's very nice to meet you all, and I hope that I'll learn a lot about Falcom's games in this place!

You haven't finished enough of them wyrdy! Get playing But hello! Great first game to start on. Ys is probably the next series I'd recommend. They're shorter, but really awesome and definitely worth the time. They're also much more forgiving to people who can't read Japanese, heh.

Thanks for the warm welcome!
Anyways, Ys does sound interesting, so I might check it out once I get enough money!

I just don't have time for long RPGs anymore... The idea that this might ever happen to me is genuinely terrifying. Maybe I need to play more games while I still have all the free time of a student. But yeah, definitely seconding Gurumin. Whether you play the Japanese PC version or English PSP version is entirely up to you though. I'm yet to play Zwei (though I do have it) and played most of Xanadu Next a while ago when I could barely read a thing but never actually finished it. Maybe I should replay it sometime.

Welcome!
Ys is my life. xD
Did you get to know Legend of Heroes VI: Sora no Kiseki FC by playing it on PSP?
EDIT: Now that I think of it... was it released for PSP at all? And in english? Hm, my mind doesn't seem to be working properly today. Too tired. xD

Miyanokouji: Well, this is the perfect place to learn! Hello, and welcome! As you can see, I too am learning... and I've been here too long not to be learning about Falcom's works. You'll find I'm one of the more sane ones here. MP83: After finally seeing that thread, I'm tempted to see if there's any way I can buy Sorcerian for Windows. Along with Popful Mail, and Romancia. I've spent too much time with my head up Ys' rear end, and never enough time educating myself with other Falcom works of art. Plus, Romancia almost reminds me of 4Four by Zara; one of my favorite freeware works (more of a metroid-esque game; you have an hour of oxygen, with which time you must gather the ingredients to cure a plague) hidden deep within the internet. I just love games that threaten me like that. It's like Romancia is saying "You have half an hour to beat me. So do it, punk! Don't let me catch you doing anything stupid either!"

Beware. Romancia is garbage. Seriously. Nobody can like it. It's available for Windows, but it is a really ugly remake which is also hard to come by.
Popful Mail is not available for Windows (only PC-8800, PC-9800, SFC, MCD and PCE). It is a decent game (not good, but not quite bad either). I recommend the Super Famicom version.

I'll admit it, I not only enjoyed 4Four, I came up with my own spin-off... sortof. Originally, it was supposed to have 4 parts... but there are only 3 which are complete. The first part gained popularity, but the last two faded and became lesser significant to the community. Since then, I've considered combining all three of them into a single game, but then I kinda gave up on it altogether. I'm sortof hoping it's wiped off the face of the internet, but I seriously doubt it. Compared to my recent work, (referenced as "Project XX" but I avoid hyping the project and disclosing any information, yet I remain open to outside help) it appears to be a big embarrassment, no matter how popular it was. As luck would have it, my backups are obsolette and buggy, so I really have no intent of finishing what I started. (it was a small project, 75% complete. Sad that I had to give up at the last 25%.)

I suppose I can divulge a bit of information. Something that *really* doesn't explain a darn thing. It's a post-apocalyptic ARPG beyond epic proportions, designed to mess with the players' minds. I think the best (and shortest) way to describe it, is that it delivers the generic, the typical, the cliched so unpredictably, that it makes them all seem quite new and unfamiliar. A sense of misleading deja vu which all comes together. Nonetheless I cannot stress enough that I cannot divulge too much more than this. Hype not only puts Project XX at risk of plagarism (which now more than ever I'm actually afraid of), it raises alot more hope, anticipation, and ultimately stress, than I can possibly handle. As such, I'm keeping everything to myself; progress reports, percentages and release dates alike. Anything I do announce (present post aside) is only for the sake of progress; I.E. learning to draw anime-style. For nearly 5 years now, I've been trying to perfect the old school ARPG genre with Project XX. Confidence aside, I'm not looking to compete with Falcom as I know it's no match for Ys. I'm still working for a close one, if not a close third. It could settle for a seat next to Crystalis, if nothing else.

I disagree Wyrdwad. To me it seems Falcom are (or at least were) always trying to innovate, but almost always fail because their ideas are just too strange. Some examples are every entry in the Dragon Slayer series (every entry is completely different from each other and everything else ever made - pretty much). Another example is the Brandish series which is very unique, and while most people don't like it (or more like - never give it a fair chance), I like it a lot. But I guess this only applies to their older games, nowadays they're just following the standard formula for all their games it seems.

Most certainly. I suppose the only people I'm not worried about yet are publishers. Having to negotiate with them, explaining what makes my game "worth it" and (hopefully) selling out is going to be quite an adventure. Of course, whether or not I really want to take that nasty road is still something I've yet to figure out. I still have to weigh in shared profit vs. what actually sells, and hope I'm making more than the production value. I suppose the one thing that scares me is knowing it's a low-budget project. Its success doesn't entirely depend on whether or not it is an excellent project, but on how well I can prove to the customers that it indeed is. Plus, I still have to give it a decent soundtrack; I'm willing to bet that won't be easy. Are you under a contract of some sort which keeps you from selling home-made projects? I haven't studied that part of the business. I mean, it eats a hole in my head, that part of me that wonders how Rare can develop two Banjo-Kazooie games for the GBA and have THQ produce them, even though they're bought out by Microsoft. I'd think that there'd be some kind of legally binding contract which prohibits them from working with/for Nintendo anymore.

Now there's a contract I wouldn't want held over my head, haha. The industry is so cruel.
