Are there any Ys books? I was searching amazon.com but I couldn't find anything. I suppose there must be fan fiction online, but I'm really looking for something published.

Anyone in particular? There is the "King of Ys" book which the game is loosely based on. There is also the Ys game novel in Japanese, Chinese and Korean but these are rare find. I'd love to get a copy of the Chinese Ys novel. I've seen a picture of it but haven't had success in finding it. Then there are all the game guides.

I have the one for Ark, I haven't seen any others for the older games at EB.
The one I'm looking at in particular is for Ys 2.

Oh ... I don't speak a word of Japanese or any other language than english, so a Japanese novel would do me no good at all. I'm guessing THIS is the book you're referring to? cripes! it's 1300 pages long .. hmm although it appears not to have anything to do with the game, did they base the series on this book however loosely? Or what's the connection? (other than the title of course)

The game is loosely based on the book because the book talks about how a city was raised to the sky.
Someone will come and make it clear. If you search the board, there should be one thread about this topic. It will bring you to, I think, wikepedia page.

www.classicgaming.com/reviews/Ys/ys3.htmthe bottom of that page has info on the historical connection of Ys, as well as the novels based on that history (the wikepedia link is there too, i think... if not, then maybe deuce will come along and post it... ^_^) EDIT: well, its just one small paragraph in that long page there, so ill just quote it here: "The land of Eresia - where all of the Ys games take place - is even slightly based off Europe. It's amusing to note that Esteria, where the first game takes place, is in France. There was actually a lost ancient city by the name of , built near Brittany. While not floating in the sky, it was built below sea level, but surrounded by dams. As the story goes, the devil opened the gates and flooded the city, as punishment for being too decadent."en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ysguess the link was there after all. PS: I think I have got to get that novel. Few novels tend to interest me, so this should be a good change of pace. Im going to london at the end of this month, that should be a good read for the trip, when im not playing my DS ^_^

On the Ancient Land of Ys webpage you can find information about Ys and the connections to that book. I don't remember the link, but it can be found on page three in the "ANCIENT LAND OF Ys WEBSITE PROJECT - WE NEED YOU"-thread. Edit: I shouldn't be so lazy. Here's the link for you!

I have found a book of Ys lol, actualy... I just picked up my copy of The King of Ys a few hours ago. First impression: this thing is huge! lol, well... maybe its cuz the only large book ive ever read is from the LOTR series. This is the first time a book over 1000 pages long has cought my attention. Even more so, now that Ive read the back and a few pages within "Ys: Magical city shrouded in legend, ruled by her nine priestesses, her god, and her King. This is the story of Gratillonius, a Roman Prefect who, in the service of his emperor, journeyed to Ys and was tricked by the Nine into defeating the King of Ys in armed combat, not realizing that by so doing he would become the new King." thats about half of whats on the back desription (ill type more if anyone wants me to. from my knowledge, theres no detailed desription of whats in the story on the internet...). IMO, that's not only very interesting stuff for Ys fans, but adventure and fantasy fans in general. Its realy interesting that the Ys games have goddesses and preists, but the book has gods and preistesses I cant wait to read some more... i'll probably tell you guys more about it after 3 weeks

by the way is the King of Ys series at all truly related to the Falcom Ys series? or is it just similar in name and story? i do not recall this book being licensed by Falcom in anyway at all.

It's similar... I think the book came out before the game did... check the original copyright year of the book. If it's before 1988... then book came first.

Reading that site that seldane provided the link to, it said the story of Ys(book and game) is based on a song that's been passed down generation to generation somewhere in europe .. although whether or not it actually is real is anyones guess (the myth involves the city being drowned not flying in the sky)

The book is from the 70's. Before Nihon Falcom Corporation was founded.

Hey guys. Im in London, England right now... and ive read some more of that book (although, not much...) It's realy good. The characters are very interesting, they have a lot more personality that characters in other novels ive read. It talks about things, places, and factual history (caeser comes up a few times) from all over europe at that time period. I stopped at a cliffhanger and im tempted to read more soon... the book is a compilation of 3 or 4 books, which is why it sounds so long the story isnt about the Ys from the games, it's actualy another interesting (more complex and deep) take on the ancient legend. well, I cant use this computer long, so ill tell you some more when i get back on the 16th
