Hello. I will get soon Ys 1&2, Ys 3, and Ys 4 for pc-engine (bought on ebay, waiting for its arriving). I bought this so I will be able to play Ys 4 the dawn of Ys (and in english...) I finished Ys 1 &2 complete (on PC) and Ys 3 snes. Are those version different between the pc engines games ? (not graphics , but stories.) I mean, shall I play for example, Ys 3 on the pc engine and get new things...story, ...

Honestly... I dont think there should be much difference... but I never liked Ys3 because of the side view and I played like 5min on SNES rom... I played through Ys4 the SNES version. I haven't touched Ys5 but it's also on SNES but not translated completely yet. I don't think... Other then the exception of Ys4 (which had one version for SNES and one version of PCE), all the others should be the same...

Lots of things were added to the Ys Eternal games; the basic story of Ys 1+2 are going to be the same, but some characters and places will be missing when compared to Eternal. Exactly what, I can't say; I haven't played the Ys Eternal games (yet...)
Ys 3's story is the same on every platform; the only real difference is in translation; the SNES' translation is considered more accurate. Also, the SNES version has a shortened intro.
Ys 4: Mask of the Sun and Dawn of Ys have the same basic cast, but completely different storylines. Mask of the Sun is said to be the official sequel, but most people who have played both (including me) agree Dawn of Ys is the better story (and game).

Ys Eternal Adds some extra stuff and really fleshes things out especially in Ys 1, all the extra character stuff is great.
The plot of Ys 1 varies slightly deepending on platform, in the eternals Adol washes up on shore, in the TG-16 one you see him get off the ship so no swirling vortex of doom.
-SPOILER- The biggest change in the story for Ys 1 for the PCE compared to the other versions is that Sara is either kidnapped or runs away. In all other versions (AFAIK) she is quite dead, murdered by Dark Fact. This also leads to the big continuity error in Dawn of Ys and is probably why mask is considered the official verison.

Yes, I think Ys3 was my least favorite. It's a shame that it was like the only Ys released in North America. I heard the SNES version has the worst music of all versions of Ys3.

Actually Ys 1-3 we're released in USA on the Turbo Grafx CD. Also, in DOY, Sara returns saying she saw something terrible in Selceta, & went to investigate it.

Yeah, that's the big continiuity error, not so much for the PCE/TG-CD verisons but compared to everything else, because in every other version of Ys I have played she is dead dead dead.

Wow, I didn't know that. I guess I was never a big TurboGraphics fan.

Also the Master System and DOS versions of Ys 1 and the Genesis version of Ys 3 were released stateside.
The Turbo CD games are the best versions by FAR though. Darm is absolutely right; you do NEED Book 1+2.
