Wow, I never knew there was a messageboard out there for Ys fans in English! I am so tickled! I was a fan of Ys 1,2,and 3 for the TurboDuo (PCE) until the discs got to scratched to play... I was so .... bah anyway my question is, is there a place to find the storyline of all the previous Ys? I felt kinda lost at the beginning of Ys VI. I tried looking around for a Ys book but never found any. I did find some Ys DVD but the anime style is really crappy. Any help?

Basic story here, done in a manner that some say shouldn't befit a gigantic fan of the series, but then they don't know me very well:
Anyhow if I have timeline details wrong please let me know. This is just going off of my recollections of the games, though I have played I-IV, and VI within the last month.
Ancient Ys Vanished - Omen -
A whacked out of his gourd adventuring youth named Adol sets out for adventure. He hears about the mysterious disturbences on the Isle of Esteria. THe island is currently surrounded by a Storm Barrier and he risks his life going there. He survives washed up on the beach and is tended to.
Eventually he is sent on a quest by Sarah the fortune teller and descendent of priest Toba to find the books of Ys, he finds three of them meets a couple of cute girls, Feena and Lair, and eventually finds two more at the top of Darm tower. At the top he finds out that the silver that is found in Esteria is actually a magical metal called Cleria and that it is the only way to defeat Dark Fact the supposed cause of all the trouble in the land. Adol kills Fact reads the six books, and as he finishes reading the book he is...
Ancient Ys Vanished II - The Final Chapter - ... skyrocketed to Ys where he is rescued by a girl named Lilia. This girl tells him where he is and after a series of wacky adventures Adol returns the books to the six priest who tell him that he must venture to solomon shrine in order to confront the source of the evil. The Black Pearl. Led by the goddesses, later revealed to be Feena and Lair, Adol does so. decendents of the priests along the way, he meets the descendants of the six priests. Eventually he gets another set of Cleria equipment which is the only way to beat the snot out of another black robed evil guy (apparently in the world of Ys Black RObes , pardon my l33t, pwn all. Anyhoo, Ys thus descends to the earth into bagyu'b'dead and at the core of Ys he fights Darm the evil that was spawned from the back pearl. All is well though as using the power of the goddesses and the priests, Adol kills Darm the world is saved and the Goddesses turn to stone.
Three years later:
Ys III - Wanderers from Ys - Adol and Dogi, his blue haired sidekick head out to the land of Felghana where they meet Elena who is worried about her brother chester who has vansihed. Wackiness ensues and it turns out the Chester is working for Lord Mcbendinga who is trying to ressurect Galbalan (aka Demanicus if you want to sound mroe EEEEEVIL) . More wackiness ensues and Adol kills Galbalan, chester dies sealing the demon forever or somesuch and Adol wanders away leaving another single girl smitten but helpless to do anything but pine for our rugged, but apparently asexual hero.
One year before that:
Ys IV : Dawn of Ys - Isn't official so who cares.
Ys IV : Mask of the sun - Is official, so basically Adol heads ot the Land of Selceta where he gets TWO girls, (Karna and Leeza) to fall for him in the process of stopping a crazed former god, Eldiell from destroying the world. There are a trio of evil sidekicks who turned said god (well, Eldean actually, but well they might as well be.) Evil. In the course of this adventure Lilia dies (YAY!) but gets better, (BOO!) and once again shows her complete inability to do anything other than try to follow a swordsman through conditions that would kill anything other than redheads. But I digress. Adol kills an unnamed (Leo in DoY), general of the Romun Army, and as such kills his whole platoon as well. Several faces from Ys I and iI show up again but there are too many to list. Adol has to collect three gems, a NEW set of uber waponry, then basically do nothing for half the fight, but he eventually kills Eldiel. Score one point for the good guys. At the end of that Adol runs off YET AGAIN, leaving the three girls sexually frustrated. Still Dogi goes with him this time, so maybe Adol ISN'T asexual after all.
Two Years after that:
Ys V - Sand City of Kerfin - I haven't played it but it involves an ancient city buried in the Xandria desert or some such. All I know is that it is most llikely related to the Eldean and this time Adol gets a 12 year old to fall for him. Adol and Dogi go off in search of their next adventure.... (cue 'Ambiguously bending Duo' music.)
Three Years after that:
Ys VI - which you have played, but there's and ark, a goddess hot chicks with tails, young chicks with tails, and the Romun army is back.
OK that should cover it, forgive the cracks at the characters. I love them all but I'm in a wierd mood tonight.

Thank you for that wonderful post! I now understand a bit more.
But there is still some thinngs I wonder about. Like in the beginning of Ys VI, A pirate asks to travel with Adol, was he a part of the storyline before? Why did he want to travel with Adol and Dogi? (if i remember correctly Dogi and Adol were also confused)
Also, why was the Romun army after Adol?
EDIT: Was it because in Ys IV : Mask of the sun , he killed that fleet of the Army? Why did Adol do that by the way?

On those points I can't help you much, I think most of that was in Ys V.
Adol clashes with the Romuns in IV, and it seems by the time VI rolls around Adol's name had been passed around alot. I mean who'da thunk all you had to do to get famous was save the world foour times.
It seems that the Romun's might have been in Ys V tho9ugh. I'm not sure.
Deuce?
