01. Silver Will (Sora no Kiseki) 02. Overdosing Heavenly Bliss (Sora no Kiseki 3rd) 03. The Cat that Basks in the Sun's Silence (Sora no Kiseki) 04. Faintly Glittering Light (Sora no Kiseki 3rd) 05. Sora no Kiseki (Sora no Kiseki) 06. And then to a new path... (Vantage Master Portable) 07. Release of the Far West Ocean (Ys 6) 08. The Dawn of Ys (Ys 4) 09. Tower of the Shadow of Death (Ys) 10. Kraken (Sorcerian) 11. Blue Dragon (Sorcerian) 12. Land of Illusions Serpentina (Zwei!!)
...were they drunk when they made some of these choices? Especially the Sora ones - Overdosing and Silver Will are good choices, but 3 and 4... while I like them on their respective OSTs, they're not just not suited to a live performance. 5 will be pretty good with a mini orchestra, and the rest are fine though the lack of Ernst infuriates me.

the inclusion of an Ys 4 track is interesting. I was at the Ys 20th concert last March and there they only played: Ys 1&2, Ys Felghana, Ys6 and Ys Origin tracks, but no Ys 4 or Ys 5 tracks. is there something in the future with Ys 4? could Ys 7 be an Ys 4 remake?
any case: MUST HAVE CD! these are tracks form their Fall 2007 gig.

Why did they choose a Dawn of Ys song instead of Mask of the Sun?
MotS is supposedly the official one, so I find it strange they chose a track from DoY. Though DoY has greater popularity...
I can't help it, but wonder Falcom intends to remake Ys IV, but mixing the plot of both MotS and DoY instead of only using MotS's.
Also, do any of you have the cover for that album?

The Song The Dawn of Ys is from the Ys 4 Mask of the Sun intro. I think it is in Ys 4 PCE too, but I don't remember where.

Is there a song called "Mask of the Sun" too? xDD I'm serious.
I didn't complete TDoY yet, so I don't know if the intro song of MotS is in the game.

I think "The Dawn of Ys" plays during the "real" intro in Ys 4 PCE. You know, the one that you get to see after playing the game after about 15 minutes. You used to have an avatar taken from that intro.

I suspected that. The beginning of the music in both games are VERY similar, but then it sounds so different in Ys IV MotS... so I wasn't sure... By the way, good thing you mentioned my old avatar. I always change it back from time to time, everywhere. I'm going to do it right away. Hm... on a side note, the Ys IV music albums always were from "The Dawn of Ys" specifically, I think there're 3 albums in total. I wonder why there was no MotS album at all if it's the official version... And only now I noticed, this new Falcom Album needs more Ys music. And indeed, where's Ys V?! Some tunes could sound great in "Ys-styled" remixes!

"Kraken" and "Blue Dragon" sound like good choices for Sorcerian.
And yes, "The Dawn of Ys" is from the intro of Mask of the Sun.

could Ys 7 be an Ys 4 remake? Well, they did mention 'Ys 7' in the announcement rather than the usual scheme of doing roman numerals so it's possible but going by that reckoning it would be Ys 8 or 9 (depending on if you count Oath as the 7th Ys game or not) so I wouldn't hold my breath. A MotS/DoY remake is inevitable since it's the only title Falcom has no in-house version of but I don't think the next one will be it. Is there a song called "Mask of the Sun" too? xDD I'm serious. I unofficially think of the song that plays on the SNES games title screen as 'Mask of the Sun' but none of the original tracks from that game got real names. In any case, 'Dawn of Ys' plays in all versions of Ys IV regardless of title or official-ness. The song was just too good to be confined to one game.

One thing worth noting is that this CD doesn't feel very 'live'. There's no sign of any audience presence in it, so it should basically be treated like an arrange CD for a bunch of tracks from different Falcom games. I prefer it that way though.
Overdosing Heavenly Bliss I wasn't expecting to be as good as the original (it didn't seem hugely impressive on the live DVD sample), but as an arrange it's actually excellent. Probably one of my favourites on the album, much like it was one of my favourites from the original 3rd OST. The Dawn of Ys has a lot of strings in the first half, a nice upbeat piano solo and a mostly guitar driven second half with the piano returning for the ending, and is another good track. Tower of the Shadow of Death, while a track I've never been hugely fond of, probably has my favourite version here, with a mix of guitar sections and almost dance-like ones. Kraken is pretty good, although I'm never played Sorcerian so I've never heard the original. The Cat that Basks in the Sun's Silence is... soothing. Arguably slightly, but only slightly, better than the original soundtrack version, it has all the relaxing mood the original did. Land of Illusions Serpentina is probably my favourite track from Zwei!! and this arrange definitely lives up to it, giving it more instrumental depth and generally being a fantastic track to listen to. Definitely one of my favourites. Blue Dragon is, again, pretty good, but I've never played Sorcerian to judge it compared to its original. Silver Will is another great arrange, with some added background guitars and a few solo sections to bring out probably one of Sora no Kiseki's most distinctive themes. Release of the Far West Ocean is not the vocal version, thankfully, and is fantastic as expected with plenty of guitars and backing synths. This will be my standard version of this track from now on. Sora no Kiseki is made up of two sections - Shine of Eidos, the SC title theme, followed by Where the Hope lies, which plays in one of my favourite cutscenes near the end. Both are beautiful tracks, and this is a wonderful arrange of both of them that's also one of my favourites on the album. Faintly Glittering Light is a vocal track, strangely enough, and while it's pretty good with some extra sections added here and there and some guitars. Unfortunately I've never been a fan of tracks I'm used to instrumentally getting additional vocals, and this is no exception and probably my least favourite track. And then to a new path... is only minimally different from the new Vantage Master Portable arrange and the instrumental quality is exactly the same. It's still awesome though.
In conclusion, favourite tracks are Overdosing Heavenly Bliss, Land of Illusions Serpentina and Sora no Kiseki, followed by Release of the Far West Ocean. A solid, balanced and thoroughly enjoyable 'Live' album, though it would still be better dubbed as simply an arrange album.

Oh, you're right - it doesn't say live. My bad, I guess. - Half the CD is *not new*. Tower of the Shadow of Death, Illusionary World Selpentina, Silver Will, and Sora no Kiseki are all the EXACT same versions found on the Falcom Unpublished Music 2007 CD, as is part of Faintly Glittering Light; and On to a New Road is the EXACT same version found on the Vantage Master Portable soundtrack. This is kind of annoying, as I've already heard these songs many, many times, and was really hoping for a bit more new material. Ouch, that's just cheap. Yeah, I can see why that would annoy you. I've never heard that CD (not even the VMP OST yet, it's waiting at home for me) so this is all new and awesome to me. Ah well, like I said, I just can't seem to get into vocals being inserted onto a track I know and love already. I've seen many I really love get the vocal treatment over the years, Falcom and beyond, and I can't remember any of them I've liked. Dunno what it is. One thing that I think needs saying though... I still can't get over the lack of Ernst. An arrange of it in this level of quality would be too awesome for words.

I'd also like to note: the Sorcerian track "Blue Dragon," while AWESOME on here, is actually slightly LESS awesome than the version found on the Sorcerian Super Arrange Version. And I think this is significant, as that version might as well be an 80s jdk Band track... and while this CD is cool and all, I still think the 80s jdk Band was far superior. -Tom I'm not one to buy a CD for one or two tracks (because I don't even know where half of the tracks on this CD even came from), but that sounds kind of disappointing. "Blue Dragon", though, was the best track on Sorcerian Super Arrange (even though my favorite is actually "Cave II" for a different reason), and I do have a hard time imagining it being done differently. Although I guess what I'm really wondering is what the style of the music could be compared to as to the more recent Falcom CD releases. I unofficially think of the song that plays on the SNES games title screen as 'Mask of the Sun' but none of the original tracks from that game got real names. Four unreleased Ys 4 tracks were printed on a Falcom Special Box '95 CD, although I only recognize two of them being from Mask of the Sun ("Tower" is the Isis Tower theme and "Prison House" is that... well, prison house at the beginning of the game where Leo locks you up).
