What counts as contemporary? Because I mostly feel music died around 1990, for the most part. At least mass marketed music.

So technically that excludes music from 2-3 years ago? Because I'm not too fond of 07 & 08's music.

No, it doesn't.
2-3 years ago still means present day as many producers who are writing today were writing 2-3 years ago.
