WOW!!! I saw a very similiar screenshot in 2002!! I thought it was an early Gurumin shot, but apparently not! I will try to dig it up - I posted it somewhere here in the Falcom board! Very cool! Edit: I found it. It gives me a theory... Gurumin was originally SUPPOSED to be Zwei 2, so they made an engine for it, came up with ideas for the game... made the Gurumin town... then they scrapped the whole Zwei idea and made up a new character. Because, if you've played Gurumin - you can easily tell that this is the town from that game, whatever it is called. Then now, in 2008 - they took that same engine again (because judging from the screenshots - that's CLEARLY the Gurumin engine) and started working on a Zwei concept again. jdk.sakura.ne.jp/info/image/20021206/table_bm.jpgThe image was posted in late 2002. Well over a year before Gurumin even came out.

Oh wow, this is the one game I wasn't particularly looking forward to out of their PC list having never played the original, so why do those screenshots make me so very happy? Love the art style, it does look like the Gurumin engine but also like they've pumped a whole lot of effort into refining and upgrading it, because the top screenshot especially looks really pretty. Arwen, the devil lead devil girl, looks like a character I'll really like too.
Definitely be preordering this as soon as they start accepting them. The info page says this summer too, as if I didn't have enough awesome games due out for summer already. But Falcom takes priority.

Wow, it does look nice. Maybe picking up the first one in preparation would be a good idea.

Crappy loose translation of the news from the Falcom newsletter on this: ======= Urgent announcement! "ZWEI II" will be on sale for Windows this summer!
Although the game was announced before as "a title in development", this is the first time that the contents of the game are revealed. The following information was announced by IR:
Revealed to the public this time are three screens which show the inside of a town, a battle scene, and an event scene. Naturally, every shot shows the two "heroes."
======= Uh, the final sentence in the writeup is just weird. It's something like "if you look at the screens based on the contents shown, you will see the whole aspect of Zwei II". o_O? And from the Hot Information page: ======= [Top paragraph is essentially a regurgitating of the info in the newsletter so no translation on that. :3]
The following 3 scenes of screenshots are the first to be shown to the public. Is the secret of 'ZWEI II' revealed when carefully examined from corner to the corner?
[And the last bit is just asking reader to stay tuned to the HOT INFORMATION page for more ZWEI II news!!!!]
======= I guess all that was common sense but eh, I felt like sharing anyway ... even though some of it was probably mistranslated but hey! It's the gist! XD Also, this game MIGHT come over. I mean, Gurumin did! :O! Arwen, the devil lead devil girl, looks like a character I'll really like too. Definitely be preordering this as soon as they start accepting them. The info page says this summer too, as if I didn't have enough awesome games due out for summer already. But Falcom takes priority. Heh. Have you played Zwei!! before? Arwen seems to be like the female lead, Pipiro, of that. She was so .... self-absorbed. ^^; But yeah, this is SO a pre-order. I hope there's a lot of spiffy limited bonuses like a soundtrack and artbook! ^o^ I hope it won't be silly and come with a copy of Zwei!! though. :B

After getting ported to PSP though. It's possible, but it might take a while, though in that case a rename seems probably as Zwei!! 1 didn't make it outside Japan.
Did anyone ever successfully hack Gurumin, by the way? Or even try? Just curious how plausible that side of things would be, seen as I know precisely squat about hacking.
Never. I have it, got it with the big Falcom Original RPGs special offer, but I've never played it. I don't know what it is about it that puts me off, there's just something. I think it's the weird character sprites with their giant hats. As for Arwen... well, I like little demon girls, and Falcom seems to write them well (See: Renne from Sora no Kiseki) so... yeah. Makes a nice change from your happy and helpful type.
Nah. I bet Zwei!! the original will be in multiple weekly specials before release though, maybe a game + OST + Super Arrange special at the time it's released so people can grab them both at the same time.

Looks nice! Hum, what FM-77 said is interesting... and weird. There's one downhill aspect about this news: Ys SEVEN will be taking longer to show up. =/ Though there's no rush.

For text insertion, yeah. Just curious, I'm guessing not though. Not curious for Gurumin itself so much as the plausibility of Zwei!! 2 though seen as it appears to be running on the same engine. Though as you said, a PSP version seems really likely, although it probably won't be for a little while, mid to late next year at the earliest going by how long it took for Sora 3rd. Still, better than nothing. Playing it... well, I might. At the very least I know I really like the soundtrack, but I've got so many games to play at the moment and so little time to actually play them, heh. Maybe I should though, references to it in the second seem fairly likely. (and don't worry, I give no worth whatsoever to FM-77's opinion )

I guess the lesser people just don't understand my equisite taste. Well, it's their immense loss. Everything I say is The Ultimate Truthâ„¢, and whoever disagrees with me is as wrong as can be.

You should change your name to Arrogance-77.
The screenshots do look very colorful. I have Zweii for the PS2 but havnt played it yet. This is some motivation to pop it in.

I think they left out all the mini game/omake stuff from the PS2 port, didn't they? There was also a silly Tetris-like Mona Mona game, IIRC. And a calculator too? Plus, there was a clock, I think.
I wish I still had the saved games. I would reinstall the game to check them out then! XD
Oh, wyrdwad, did you ever complete the insane optional dungeons? The Dreamy/Illusionary Labrynth or something? I swear, every time I got to the last or second last set of floors of any of the dungeons (where the enemies are like seemingly level 293847239 as one hit can nearly kill your characters) I WOULD DIE RIGHT AT THE BEGINNING OF THE FIRST FLOOR.
OTL
Oh wait -- I just saw the last bit of your post. They CHANGED the difficulty!? Well, HOT DAMN. Shame they didn't do it for the bloody PC one. >:(

Well, it kinda makes sense that the Typing of Ys minigame was omitted because most PS2 owners probably dont own a keyboard peripheral for the console.

Sort of random~~ I just tried vidcapping Zwei!! PC and Fraps refuses to acknowledge that the game is running. I think it has to do with the way it loads up (via the little Zwei!! launcher).
I'll do one of my awesome camera video captures tomorrow though. Yeah, I know there are vids of the game up on YouTube but they weren't done nunuu-style!

Eh, I have my phases. Once I get hooked on a game, I like it for the duration that I play it and then I never touch it again. Even if I DO start Zwei!! again, I doubt I'll get to the end. Speaking of the end, I thought the final boss battle was ultra lame and very .... slow. It's actually one of the major things I remember from the game. :P Well, aside from: Haha. Almost forgot Pipiro's love for sweets. XD Oh yeah, I originally played the game with a mouse and keyboard but since I can use a gamepad now, I decided to try that out. Problem is, it doesn't seem like it gives you the option to configure the buttons and moving the cursor around to get to the item belt, Options, and character portrait to switch characters is annoyingly restrictive and cycles between the three sections in a certain way -- sort of like using a keyboard to navigate parts of a Web page in a Web browser.
