Good reviews for Castlevania 64? I found all the bad reviews. But I think those games would be better if they stayed 2d. The music is great, and the variety of levels was good, but the camera was annoying. Very very annoying.

I have to say that I don't think I've ever seen a good review of either N64 Castlevania game. I love Castlevania, always have, but the reviews I read made me decide not to buy them. I might get around to them sooner or later.
That dream sounds pretty cool. I wish I could dream about video games. All I dream about is work, more like nightmares I guess. It might be pretty cool if they did make a game like that, though I imagine the whip would be difficult to implement well overhead. I think that I've seen that style before with a whip though I'm not too sure of the game.
Peace Out Jest

Like I said. I've only seen good reviews for Castlevania 64 (until now).
Electronic Gaming Monthly - 87.5% Hyperactive - 85.0% IGN - 82.0% GameSpot - 82.0% Gamebits - 81.0% All Game Guide - 80.0% Game Genie - 80.0% Archive 64 - 78.0% Gaming Maxx - 71.0% Gaming Age - 68.0% Game Informer - 65.0% Game Revolution - 60.0% Hardcore Gaming - 60.0% Next Generation - 60.0%
Pretty good numbers eh? I agree with most of them. I'd give it 8/10. Definitely.

I was very disappointed with Lament of Innocence and couldn't even get beyond the first level because a) I was bored, b) it was stupid, and c) WTF 3D.
Simon's Quest was definitely my favorite of the series that I played, although Symphony of the Night is an all time classic. So there you have it.

well, if there was... sony would never allow it to have a out-of-japan release anywhere (trust me, ive missed out on all the new SNK games cuz of that stupid rule. how come microsoft doesnt have that rule? on top of that Xbox has the best graphics capabilities, yet SoA's the one keeping 2D away from THEIR console...). actualy... europe could get it... since the PS2 SvC Chaos managed to get released there. im kinda happy it remains a handheld thing now... i loved every single GBA and the DS Castlevanias to death... and theres another one being made for the DS now. If you've played DoS, you'll know that the DS provides no limitations when it comes to 2D... and i cant wait to see what the next DS game will be like. but personally, i think the whole perception that if any classic 2D game (specifically, side scrollers) is made into 3D its like the beggining of the apocolypse is just silly... when a fan thinks like that, they go into the new game already beleiving its crap (and they're just playing it cuz they consider themselves die-hard fans). they say that they dont care about graphics, but then they play a 3D game and complain about it not being 2D... sure, maybe the art cant be as emphisized in a 3D game, or the animations may not be as fluid, but it all boils down to gameplay. Ys was always an action-adventure-rpg game, much like Zelda, so thats probably why they both translated well into 3D. Castlevania is a sidescroller , so you cant expect things to be the same if they make a fully 3D game out of it. Its got to be something new. It's an attempt to show how the series could play in 3D. It allows for fresh, new gameplay ideas, its not neccessarily an attempt to shun fans for the non-fans. Thats why i liked the PS2 Castlevanias, but differently from the rest of the series. I found them to be very worthy attempts at showing the series in 3D while trying to keep so much of what fans love intact (the music, for one thing). I also realy liked King of Fighters Maximum Impact *waits to be assassinated* ofcourse, 2D will remain the better, but be glad that the 3D games are being made along-side the 2D games. its because of these series and their fans that the 2D games still live. ive read that many developers are still fans of 2D aswell, but the two gaming dimensions allow for different experiances and not necessarily better ones. for certain series, 2D could be more preferable to 3D for most people, but i dont think a game can be bad just because its 3D. i beleive that one day there can be a 3D conversion thats worthy to stand along side it's 2D cousins... personaly, i think LoI got pretty damn close (if it werent for the Mario 64 Castle-hub style level design). i guess u can tell by now i like to get into lengthy replies i guess this just means no one can dare call me a spammer (not that anyone has, its just for... future reference) oh yeah, i better add that im not accusing anyone here of being totaly close-minded when it comes to 2D to 3D "conversions" i'd just like to throw in that... LoI is by far my favorite exclusive PS2 game, at a 9/10. Yes, ive played through many PS2 games.. including MGSs and FFs... but i liked them a lot less than most people do... Actualy, if it werent for LoI and Ys VI, i wouldnt mind not having a PS2. Its just a garbage system, imo, even compared to it's predecesor the PSone and what it had (SotN!!!!) *is deeply sorry for throwing this topic into various directions* hmm.. oh yes.. that dream what was it again...?
