Oops... I just instinctively refer to everyone as male until they've been around for a while and I start remembering that they're female, most of the time I don't even notice the gender icon. I guess there have just been too many pretend-girls on other forums.

Sadly, I've given up on playing this gem in English. It didn't make it out by last Christmas, fine, but nearly a year later and no word? I think it's more likely to get taken up for localization before it actually comes to us via the awaited avenue. If I'm wrong, I'll be overjoyed, but my hopes are no longer inflated.
On the subject though, as I'm learning the native language (very fucking slowly and mostly in written form for the moment) playing games in Japanese will shortly be preferrable to me. Wyrd, if by any chance you have the script handy, or know where I might get it, an English aid will be greatly helpful, even if it's only an approximate translation (I concur that direct translations tend to suck).

You have to read through the thread some, but Wyrd and some other people -are- working on a patch.
They also did one for the PC version of Ys 6.
And aren't you guys doing one of... what was it, Xanadu?

Yeah, Ryu, that was the exact patch I was referring to when I said I didn't expect its release. If you read back far enough you'll understand my comment about a last Christmas release. I'm pretty sure there was mention last october-november 'bout the patch hopefully being out by Christmas. . . then by summer. . . now there isn't even a 'hopeful' date set.
I'm not bitching or anything, as the patch is really just a favor to the public by people with lives and jobs of their own. It's great they did as much as they did. I've just resigned myself to an understanding pessimism.
And Wyrd, thanks for the offer, but if it's only partial, it probably won't do me any good for a good long time. Lack of free time has slowed my kanji erudition to a pathetisad pace. Maybe I'll hit you up down the road though. ALTHOUGH! Do you by any chance know of any OTHER game scripts floating around? I know Gamefaqs has one for Growlanser (which will be the first game I play once I'm confident I can at least recognize most of the kanji). Anything would be useful. Well, anything that isn't to a game that's completely dreadful, anyway. I won't play Beyond the Beyond again in any language.

If a PSP port is announced and XSEED decides to localize it, couldn't they use this translation as a base like they did with Deuce's OiF translation? In that case the work would hardly be wasted regardless of what happens in the future. I don't know if this would actually be possible, though.

YsO script is too large for an action game. Well, I just hope that translation will be finished. I wish I didn't know about the project, it's too cruel to wait for it It's already two years.

Yeah, especially those damnable flashbacks that KEPT popping up for Thor. >:O Ruining the action and all ... >:O!!!! I don't wanna go to a new area! That means I'm gonna have to sit through another flashback! I guess the extreme environmental disparity throughout The Tower causes Thor to suffer flashbacks...

Sooo like 1 year ago, you guys were gossipping about the possibility of the patch being finished by the end of 2009... now it's the end of 2010...
How's it looking Wyrdy? How many more years of waiting can we expect? =P

Arashiken, check out the stickied Ys Origin Translation Teaser thread. The long-awaited patch is no longer the only viable path to the Englishizing of this fantastic game. Uneternalism(s) made a program that any old slob with basic Japanese knowledge (or the right translation programs) can use to create a patch. I find this avenue far more probable than the initially anticipated one.
Of course, Doppia (who's leading the initial translation project) swears that the project isn't dead, but with no news a year after the patch was initially slated for, I find the "not dead" arguement to be similar to the Terry Shiavo debate. It also turns out the translation work itself is not as far along as we all thought. And while Uneternalism insists there's no intentional competition, there is a temporal competition of coinciding events, as we fans only care about getting the patch, not so much who it's coming from.
So, I'd recommend keeping an eye on that thread instead of this one.

I've seen videos on YouTube of Doppia's work, and its made me very excited to see it in action.
For those that havent seen it:
Reading Uneternalism's post was an eye opener for sure!
Still looking forward to playing this in english one day.

Rumour has it that they are working on translation, only it is a new game so it will be a while before the patch comes out.

No offense, but you shouldn't really trust random people on Gamefaqs, or any other forums.

Just throwing in a little encouragement! Since its obvious everyone involved reads this thread occasionally, I just want to thank everyone working on this. Since it's a labor of love I definitely respect the time it's taken.
To be fair, with how awesome Origin is, rather playable if you've played Ys I & II without any sort of translation, I await this patch similar to icing.
Then again, I consider icing the point of cake, so take that how you will!
A fun game in japanese when all I could do was sound out the katakana will doubtlessly be better when I can understand why I'm doing what I'm doing. I'd offer to help if everything didn't seem in order, and I wasn't absolutely skillless.
Just thought I'd throw that out there. The progress so far looks amazing! A part of me wants to beg for a map and menu patch for ease so I can stop using the screenshots, but I can survive.

Ok guys...after a period of silence I'm here to clear some things. I read a lot of posts on this board and on the net sayin' several untrue things... many times a lot of people was disappointed for the patch delay. well... I don't have any wish or desire to reply to every idiot post i read but I'm here to clear some tings:
- the project is currently runnin and rockin'
Our lead translator ( the identity will remain secret 'till the end in order to prectect him from a lot of stupid and annoying mails and requests) had a rough period in his real life and for this reason he was compelled to put the translation work in standby for a little while. Actually he started again to work on the dump.So the project is sitll on and running.
Let me clear other things: I read somewehere that the text was completely translated...well actually is not. Most of the parts are completed but the whole thing.
In detail: all the graphics are completed ( I edited all by myself). all the items and characters descriptions are translated. Dialogs are goin' to be complted in the next future.
After thta we will start a deep beta-testing session in order to avoid bugs or erros.
There won't be any any alpha, beta, release-candidate, per-final or only textual versions available for download till the first official final release.
Let me say that I'm really disappointed for all the arrogance and the nerve of some subjects... I don't want to waste my little free time to reply to these persons... I prefer to use it for the project. I'm writin' here only to define the development progress in order to shut up all the untrue voices and news. I hope that this hype will finally shut down... It's annoyin' and the worst is that it makes us loose all the wish and desire to work over the game. Stay tuned.
