Hello, I am considering going to college (again, for like the 3rd time). This time I actually want to study something I am interested in, which is Asian pop culture/language/arts/geography etc (I am very interested in anything over in the far east) Has anyone gone to college for anything similar to this? What was it like? What kind of job could you get afterwords or was it more for fun? I feel as if I need to start going to school again but I do not really know what for and far east studies are really the only thing I have high interest in... I could go for more computer classes and make a bunch of money running a network, but I do that now (not the bunch of money part ), and really don't like it (feel like I am contributing nothing to the world),, ahh growing up, it really bites heh.. lots lost lost.. all I want to do is play video games but feel as if I should focus on something else.. I don't think there are any Asian pop culture studies... if there is it will only be one course. You might as well just do Asian Studies and take the pop culture course. The only job I can think of is translation which will definitely require you to do a major in one of the Asian languages.

Ok, . Pop culture was just a plus, and most colleges that offer an asian studies program offer a couple pop culture classes.. I would assume knowing about pop culture with some journalism would maybe get you something since asian pop culture is exploding in the usa.. Anyone know about this stuff who has gone through it? I would assume the basic jobs would be teaching english to asian students.. but what else?? I am mostly just interested in learning about the culture in general, religion, history, etc.. not just pop culture. Looking into University of Oregon which has the oldest program in the usa for east asian studies.. anyone knwo about this?? blah ok thanks for the input again.

Hehehe, you can go to college in Sweden, we have exactly the education you're describing. Thinking about going there myself someday.

My alma mater has one very well-done class on Asian pop culture. The break down of any cultural studies major is a mix of language, history and culture(old and new.) japan.ucsd.edu/pages/program.html#Major
