I have no idea, but damn! This son of a bitch came out of nowhere! Maybe I'm hacked?
VSSRVC EXE keeps appearing in a command prompt with a DOS cursor that flies all over the black box. It appears in multiple instances, and reappears at unknown intervals. It eats up my CPU, slowing my computer to almost a screeching halt.

Maybe your old virus is still there, causing crapance. Some of them are really hard to get out, and a reinstall of Windows isnt enough.

This just may well be a very hard to eliminate virus. Avast isn't finding it, nothing else is finding it. I'm irritated. The worst part though, is not the virus; I haven't gotten around to fixing my cooling fan yet, so when my computer overheats, it shuts down. It does this often. XD
I'll still do stuff. *nods* Lots of stuff.

So this is the mantra screen in my hack. I was curious if any of you would like to see some letter/font changes. I was considering changing the lowercase l, uppercase I, and the uppercase O (to be round instead of an oval), for starters. I am open to suggestions. Hell, I might even change the whole set to this font, whatever this font happens to be. Verdana, Arial... which one... I like *this* one the most. // Alternatively, there's the Metroid font, or the Final Fantasy font, or the Ys font... shit, anything's better than the Faxanadu fonts! XD

*nods* That's exactly what I was thinking of doing. I LOVE the lowercase "l" featured in this font we type in; no notches in it. I think it's isolated to just the l and the O, but I'm tempted to extend the notches in the I. I'd have to see how it'd look and if all else fails, revert the changes later.

Cannot proceed with hacking. vssrvc.exe and ntvdm.exe are crashing my hacking utilities, thus eliminating my ability to hack. Avast! isn't finding anything, neither is Spybot. I have no choice but to put the hacks on hold until further notice.

START - Run (or Windows plus R)
SERVICES.MSC
Find "Windows Installer" in the list, double click it
STARTUP TYPE: Choose automatic
Service status: Probably says Stopped. Press the START button.
Problem solved. This is a MAJOR Windows XP bug, but fortunately very easy to solve (although almost nobody knows the solution).
PS: Damn this keyboard!!

Also, you should download a Windows XP Pro CD-ROM and re-install once more. The restore discs that come with computers are sent from the devil. They WILL phuck up your computer. They ARE always problematic. The Pirate Bay has your shit.

Hmmm, that's strange. Okay, try this:
START -> Run
FORMAT C:
Press enter, then Y.
Wait for it.
Done!

Eh, I followed your instructions. I still can't uninstall McAfee... but now I realize, this vssrvc.exe may not be directly related to McAfee; I mean, this bastard loads when I try to load up hacking utilities aswell. I'm not too sure something like that would work, although still worth a shot. *steps outside to light up* // O.o" You're kidding, right? I'm not formatting C: without backing up my latest progress, first.

NTVDM is not running in my very fresh XP installation. So, you can probably remove this file entirely, but our primary concern here is VSSRVC.exe, which is non-existant in my computer. Look for this in Services.msc, and if you find it - stop it, and then delete the file. If something's accessing it, either run in safe mode and delete it, or disable more processes in services.msc and then try.

I eliminated McAfee and an ISP reminder from my C:\Windows\Tasks folder.

I eliminated vssrvc.exe directly through the directory C:\Windows\System32, however, ntvdm.exe reappears whenever deleted.

Yeah, I thought it would, as it is a part of Windows... those tend to disappear after you delete them. If you search for it in your registry, and then delete all registry keys with its name, it will probably not reappear. But who knows what will also happen if you do it!

Yikes. I'm not feeling adventurous right yet. (and I don't know how to use a registry backup when the time comes that I do happen to phuck up the registry)
