New video! This is just a teaser for what's to come. Yes, I've gone back to using dates as opposed to version numbers. Version numbers are too much of a hassle. This video showcases: - The retranslation - Corrected Pendant error - Return to Eolis - Fast text, door, and movement speed - Equip indoors - Gurumin music (XD) - Link's Awakening remix (XD) - My poor windows movie maker skills (XD) I edited out the part where my patches are incompatible with eachother at this point; this shouldn't be an issue in future releases.

Hail BEQ. Thou hast restored the pendant to its original glory. This is probably the coolest development so far - we find out the game in its TRUE form was meant to be 4/3s harder! I'm with the Japanese in thinking that "more difficult" = more time playing = better. Good job restoring the door to Eolis and then immediately dying. Between bouts of insane panic, the citizens applaud your hacking ingenuity.

I will now check to see if item data can be added, as opposed to being replaced. Stuff like this is good to know. In other words, I'm going to add things. You'll see. // It's not hard to break the ROM. While I can expand the ROM, I'd much rather use what free space I have. I'm sure there's a tool around that moves data... I just hope that it modifies said data and pointer entries so that it doesn't go F00F on me. >.O" As far as adding stuff goes... I think I'm going to add the Tower of Trunk back in. X) Oops!

Geek humor: BPL $F00D ;checks if value was added to $F00D. If so, resume work on the following line. Otherwise, wait until a value is added to $F00D.

This next hack is going to be another proof-of-concept hack, which will give the "b-b-but the keys go away" whiners something they'll be happy with. Unfortunately, not knowing where to insert this object, it may appear too late in the game for it to matter to them. X)

I'm trying to figure out if there's a way to JMP from a line, to the text area, and add code in the text area, using JMP to get back and continue the game's business regularly. Sadly, $8000-$FFFF don't appear to do any such thing. I'll study the opcodes some more until I find one that does. Instead of doing that, I think I have to look for segments in $8000-$FFFF that are either full of 00, EA or FF codes; I started to do this yesterday. I understand that the results can be disastrous if I don't pay attention and modify the lines carefully so that when I move data, it doesn't cause bleeding screens of death. // Sometimes, crashing the game is fun/trippy. I've managed to create and recreate a WFOD; WaterFall Of Death, where the background bleeds so fast that you see varying colors of the game's palette rotating, meanwhile the background continually shifts downward at a rapid pace. The game, being stuck at this point in the program, cannot do anything, therefore the OD part of its name. Sure, it may be incredibly bad news, but who am I to judge? It's still pretty to look at.

This is what I found out. The game is split up into 7 chunks. (of course, I already knew this) These aren't in order, but these are the 7 chunks, and how many screens there are per chunk:
08 ; 8 Eolis Areas 3F ;63 Trunk Areas 0D ;13 Town Areas 52 ;82 Mist Areas 27 ;39 Branch Areas 1F ;31 Evil Place Areas 13 ;19 Zenis Fortress Areas
FF 255 Total Areas
In plain English? We have 255 total "screens" we can Fukt around with. However, we cannot (without severe hacking headaches) put 8 Eolis screens in with the 63 Trunk screens to get more screens within an area.
I was thinking of rearranging these screens in a lengthy-dungeon way, ala Xanadu. This means that there will only be one town in the whole game. This, however, this won't stop me from implementing shops, temples, and inns in areas. (Again, Xanadu)
We have much plotting and planning to do. X)

It looks really promising, but the buy Faxanadu on VC remark is really disgusting. I hereby swear that I will spend my life doing everything I can to get people to pirate Faxanadu, and NOT pay for it. Ever.
Nintendo has nothing to do with this. They don't deserve crap. They cash in on other people's games. Those scum.

It's just a precautionary measure. I'd rather not get hounded by Nintendo for supporting or condoning piracy.

It's just a precautionary measure. I'd rather not get hounded by Nintendo for supporting or condoning piracy. I was going to say that if Nintendo were seriously considering legal action, your nice little note probably won't change their minds, but then I tried to imagine Nintendo sitting down and examining Haxanadu and I almost laughed out loud. Maybe you could incorporate a safety measure into the ROM that requires an authentic serial number or else refunds the mandatory donation.

As far as Nintendo's concerned, well you've seen my Faxanadu website, right? Lot of fine print there. XD I must've been paranoid.
Well, regardless, I just wanted a nice spot to mention the version number/date of the patch. When it's actually finished, it won't be there. It's certainly not there in the retranslation, just in the gameplay hack. (So layering the unfinished gameplay hack with the retranslation hack will eliminate the intro message anyway.)

They won't. And they can't.
People are too afraid of being pirates. There's nothing to be afraid about. Be proud instead, and throw blood at whoever tries to threat you.

I think if I were to keep that line, I'd keep it away from the main text. Maybe insert a disclaimer screen or something inbetween. Haxanadu... I remember thinking that, but I never followed through with that name. Mostly because it left a nasty taste in my mouth.

So let's see... TRASH-II, FXR, Haxanadu, whatever this project wants to call itself these days... I've planned on releasing a patch before work next week. That gives me roughly 6 days. I keep putting off the only decent preview patch, in favor of fixing/adding/removing/changing something else, and I'm sorry for this behavior. My only wish is that I'll have something special to show you, outside of videos and bragging at random. There's only 7 things different in this patch from the initial "proof of concept" patch, but the significance of these things is what concerns me. One of those seven things, of course, has to be corrected; the Tower of Trunk cannot be entered, which is a result of my door fix. Instead of removing or tarnishing other features of the game, I would like to add a feature, which will be the result of some BST. Not to mention that space for additions is somehow limited. If there's anything that can be recoded for the purpose of opening up room, you can bet your ass that's my next project.
