Another Memo: Wing Boots (and other relevant items) timer should increase with level, not decrease.

I've been suffering from fatigue to the fullest extent, and I have work tomorrow. The Faxanadu hack "fans" (we have fans?) will have for forgive me as my progress has been stunted (due to the fatigue and sickness), and therefore I have not released a new preview patch to show that this is now beyond trial and error hacking, as well as beyond the simple proof-of-concept stage. Please be patient, and thank you, as always.

The Faxanadu hack "fans" (we have fans?) Indeed you do. I'm a "fan" of this hack and registered just so I could say how much I appreciate your hard work on the project. I'm looking forward to the next release and I hope you continue this project through to it's finish!

Awesome, thank you! I'll make it so. // ...and hope not! It shall be done. While time management and illness have been tough contenders since my latest post, I won't be letting anyone down. You have my word.

So, any idea when the next patch will be out?

Not a clue -- actual estimates aren't something I want to hype on about, as potential setbacks could delay the patch and therefore bring disappointment. I'll post something, when I think it's ready. // It's on the horizon, though. Think of it as a light at the end of a tunnel. Almost.

Same here. XD It sucks, and when I'm done being sick, I get horribly fatigued. I can't even *play* games without nearly falling asleep. Speaking of which, just trying to respond here, I'd almost fallen asleep. >.< Damn fatigue!
// It doesn't help that it's been so friggin' cold.

I've fixed wing boots. Instead of having 40 seconds to use them as a Novice, and 10 seconds to use them as a Lord, you'll now have 10 seconds to use them as a Novice, and 40 seconds to use them as a Lord.

That strikes me as intentional. Wing Boots let you get away with a whole lotta stuff and breaking mazes, so it makes sense that as you get more experienced and thus further in, you get less time with 'em.
Not that this is a gamebreaking thing, mind. So long's you got enough time to fly up to the fountain.
Edit: That sprite fing is interesting. Do you know if the enemies are fully programmed? As in, do they have full movement and attack patterns and such? And full sprite sheets?

The snake thing (ID 18) has 10 HP. He is fully animated and has its own pattern. The lowest ball stays situated, while the higher balls move further horizontally, the higher up the balls go. The mouth opens and closes constantly, which is a little odd. His lowest ball is vulnerable, but it doesn't drag the rest of the creature with it when it moves. He has two frames of animation. The dwarf knight (ID 29) has 1 HP (pitiful!), and does 0 DMG! He just stands there, waving his lance like the harmless moron that he is. He appears to be guarding or something. He has two frames of animation. I'm lead to believe that he guards the Eolis town exit. He's your hint to buy a Dagger or Deluge before venturing out. Either way, I'm putting him in. ...without the jumping cyclops there, and by eliminating any means of death within Eolis, the King will no longer provide you with more than 1500 Ducats. The djinn (ID 36) has 10 HP (which is high, for this game) and unlike most flying enemies, sways vertically up and down while moving at the same steady speed in the same direction (left/right) until slashed/wall/offscreen. He has one frame. The slug (ID 39) has 9 HP. He slowly inches along the ground, spewing some powerful Needle (thorn) magic at you. He has two frames of animation. I don't advise melee combat at all!!! He's one of the most powerful monsters in the game! The baby wyvern (ID 43) has 3 HP. He moves up and down constantly, while following you. He's cute, and practically harmless. He just wants to constantly follow behind you. If you turn around, he'll accidentally bump into you. If you stand still, he won't bother you any. He has two frames of animation. He drops meat when killed, but I wouldn't advise fighting him. The eyeball (ID 70) has 5 HP. He moves around unpredictably, in one of four directions before stopping and planning his next move. He targets you for this bizarre attack. He has two frames of animation.

The child (or dwarf) NPC is so cute! It walks and skips around. She has three frames of animation. The blue woman NPC moves left and right in two phases. It'll move to the left/right a long distance, and then to the left/right a short distance. It's kindof erratic; she never stops, unlike most other NPCs that pace back and forth.

I still have to remove the King bug manually. Everything else in Eolis, aside from the cyclops being turned into a dwarf guard, will stay the same. // I was wrong about the djinn enemy; it has two frames of animation. The first time I'd tested it, it never slowed down either. This time it did; it moves steady, and then slow, and then steady. Interesting. Perhaps he has more than one pattern available. // The snake enemy is even more unfinished than I'd thought. The ball at the bottom is its weakpoint, and the only thing that hurts you. Its other balls and its head don't take damage, and they don't hurt you.

Agree with Unsavory about the wing boots. The more you use something, the better you should get at it. Especially in Xanadu. Plus, lords should be more powerful than novices. All those sprites and their descriptions rule. I can't wait to destroy that impotent dwarf. Baby Wyvern should made into a major character; it'll be good for merchandishing. I think the woman and her child are GHOSTS.

The Wing Boots levelling up with you, actually give the game a bit more depth; you may be required to purchase more than one set if you plan a low-level run. Otherwise, level up before use; it's not game-breaking as it depends on your level, and it's not asking for much in the area of level-ups to begin with. Every 3 levels, you'll get 10 more seconds of use. Even so, I don't think that the wing boots break the mazes; it took me a while to solve the final labyrinth, even with some 40 second (abeit infinite during testing) wing boots. I'm pretty certain that the child and the woman are Dwarfs, although the woman is abeit tall. I really like the Baby Wyvern, and had considered it to be a potential summon or sidekick; its AI suggests that it really never intends to cause you harm. It kindof reminds me of Beat ala Megaman 6. Even still, that should be set aside for a different type of hack altogether. There's a limit to the mods I'm going to make to this particular hack; if it's unreasonably game-changing, for instance, "no" would be the answer. I've also learned something in the midst of changing these sprites around. It appears as though the game handles the "storyline script" (Fieg: I've been travelling and... hey, look at the town, it looks all shitty! The door's locked! Fuck, well here's a way in... I think.) through an invisible sprite; it makes my life easier. I'd already established that it may have been a sprite, as I'd learned to jump over it prior to this discovery. Now that there's a certainty, I can do as I will. I think that if I'm going to insert (and replace) some dwarves, I'd rather do it in optional areas -- like within houses or something. Fixing that "snake" boss shouldn't be a difficult task. I think I'll go mad and add another Ace Key to the equation, just to throw everyone off.

I'd like to know what Fieg was doing PRIOR to coming to his home town. That little "intro" has always had me intrigued. Where did he come from? What did he do there? Hey, here's an idea. Turn Fieg into Adol. This could be Ys VII.

This had always left me curious, too; but I figured he was out dungeon crawling back in the days of Xanadu, and he was doomed to travel those same 11 levels for ages. He finally escapes and sells his equipment. Then he goes back to bumf... I mean, Eolis, and begins his new journey as a Novice. His latest quest has less magic, items and weapons than his first outing.
