... do you hate tailgaters? Do you wish they'll just randomly fly into a ditch somewhere away from people so they won't inconvenience anyone?
I can't understand why people have the goddamn excuse that they don't know that they're tailgating. When you're like one foot away from the car in front, you're tailgating. When a person has just enough room to walk betweeen your car and the car in front, that's tailgating.
Tailgating is dangerous for the person driving and for the person in the car in front -- ESPECIALLY during rain or snow. >:(
I even hate it when a car is right up to mine at stop lights. I know they're literally ON the bumper cuz I can't even see their stupid headlights and I can see their face up close in the rear view mirror like they were just sitting in the backseat.

I can give getting close up during a stoplight, because no one is actually moving.
But yeah, Tailgating sucks. What you do is take a briefcase or thermos and bolt it onto the top of your car. Then no one will get too close to you!
Where you getting these tailgaters at? On the highway at rush hour? Downtown streets?

And then, they'll keep cutting in front instead! :P .... I don't drive on highways cuz I'm a coward. It's not so much the speed as it is changing lanes. ._.;;;; I suck at judging distance and will only do a lane change if a car is pretty far back. ^^; But other than that, these crazy tailgating folks are everywhere on local roads. :O We all drive above the speed limit though. Heh.

You have cruise control? If so, just lock in at the speed limit. That way you know people tailgating you are going to go nuts and try to get around you.
What sort of local roads you have? I'm trying to form a cohesive picture of what your situation is like.

I find the best way to get rid of them is doing a sudden brake, just enough so they realize it's not that safe tailgating you.

Yeah, but that's also hard on your brakes.

You have cruise control? If so, just lock in at the speed limit. That way you know people tailgating you are going to go nuts and try to get around you. Nope. But I'm always glancing at the speedometer and fairly good at keeping a level speed. I DO drop to the limit sometimes if I get annoyed enough. It baffles me that there are ones that STILL follow even then! These are folks that DO NOT GO INTO THE OTHER LANE EVEN THOUGH IT'S FREE. I'd rather they change lanes, speed in front, and then change back into my lane instead of following me like my car is a giant magnet hauling them along. Eh, they're a mix of city and suburban roads. I work in the industrial area so there's always blobs of cars when I go and leave work (which is right before rush hour both times). I also take some major roads at times and they're usually full of cars. The congestion's getting worse on those bigger roads. ._.~

Yeah, I really hate tailgaters, too. Though, I must admit, I get close to the car in front of me sometimes. There are just these few roads in my town where everyone likes to drive 5 (mph) under the speed limit. The roads aren't particularly crowded (enough to prevent me from getting around, though), it's just that every car drives under the speed limit.
One of these spots is about a half mile or so after the speed limit drops from 55 to 45. I slow down to about 50 (cops never pull someone over for going a few over), but everyone zooms past me. Then a half mile later, everyone's doing 40. Talk about a delayed reaction. If the road is clear enough, I end up passing just about every car that passed me.
I'm thoroughly convinced that 90% of people shut off their brains while driving (if they ever really have them on to begin with).

Hahah, you and me both. I used to be scared of driving on the highway, but I have no choice as I have to commute over to the next city to get to work. Even then I need to be alert 100% or else I'm afraid I could possibly cause an accident.
On the topic of tailgating, I hate it also. I usually end up silently cursing the driver behind me and doing whatever I can to irritate them enough to get them to back off. But in the end my efforts prove to be futile.
