So much delicious spam, so little time... don't know if I should be fearing or pining to come back and hey, what's up with this not being posted here yet? gonintendo.com/?p=60279Well, I'm obviously out of the loop, but I'm feeling a strange mix of WTF, WHY, and YAY from this... What was the general opinion on these games again? Also... Legacy of Ys? Am I forgetting something, or is that only the name of a fansite? At least they're only making us pay for it once now, it seems...

I am ecstatic!!!
The general consensus is that these are way inferior to the PC remakes... but so what?? They're coming to America, 2-for-1 and most likely 29.99$ (average Atlus DS game price)
If this sells well enough, we're looking at a potential publisher for all future Nihon Falcom non-PC titles... I've been bugging them for so long, looks like they caved in to my demands!

Well, above anything else, this news makes me happy and excited. I'm definitely buying it, regardless of quality, since I've already played multiple versions of the old games as well as Complete. In the least, it should be interesting to see how different it is. It's just that I'd have rather liked for a great example of the first two games to be promoted outside of Japan. There was Ys Book I and II on VC but that seemed to go by without notice (maybe if only the bigger reviewers had enjoyed it even more...). It's bad enough the game will get little promotion, but bad reviews will only hurt chances of Ys becoming more recognized outside of Japan.

Hmmmm... this is complicated. I AM happy for the fact it will be officially released in english. But I AM also very sorry for the people who have been translating Ys DS and Ys II DS. =/ psyco and the d00ds were totally giving their blood to at least translate Ys DS. So I'm both happy and kind of sad. =/ It's a contraditory feeling. Well, regardless I do think the following: Even if this in fact comes to our western shores, I do actually think it would be GREAT to see the original Ys DS game translated, by fans. There's also a chance the translation may be rather poor like PSP's Sora no Kiseki. That's why I still actually encourage psyco and his team to finish the Ys DS project. If he and his team actually release the translation patch, I would DEFINITELY play the game with it. I would say: the more, the merrier. Note: Legacy of Ys is the name of Deuce's Ys fansite and forum. I wonder what he thinks about this. Note2: Oh, and welcome back Inochi! xD Yes, please, stay with us for assured spamtastic moments!

Concerning the translation itself... I mean it's being handled by Atlus USA, arguably one of the better publishers on this side of the pacific in terms of faithfully reproducing the original dialogue! Xseed is slowly creeping up on them but other than that... Sora no Kiseki was a rush/crap job from Bamco, they even admitted it themselves. Gurumin was rather decent but that publisher is going nowhere fast. If this game was being handled by say, UFO or O~3 then we'd have a reason for concern. But now we're in good hands... you can even see some translated dialogue at siliconera.

Well, guess that boxart has obviously been slapped together. Still, it is encouraging because there are some games on gamespot that are even soon to be released that lack a boxart pic of any kind. They obviously have some attention for this one. And I knew it was Deuce's site, I just was wondering if the name had ever been used officially before. Guess not yes, I'd really like to know what he has to say about this. It'd be funny if that turns out to be the official name of the US release, though. At the same time, the slapped together boxart makes me add some salt to all of this... at least for the pleasant idea that these two games will be coming in one package. But they wouldn't be listing anything if the US release wasn't true. As for me returning/staying that depends. I almost don't even know how I left in the first place. I just kind of go with the flow. I care for too many game series and other interests almost equally. A ton of news was coming out for another series I enjoy so I went there for discuss. That's what I've been doing this whole time... I'd have liked to have kept updated with things here but I'd be loosing more sleep than I already was. I've been subtitling myself "wanderer" over there, in a way, since i've realized i never keep to one place too long... But what really sucks is that I can't seem to keep away from my computer and finish my backlog!! Oh yeah, that was why I left in the first place... obviously didn't work very long, hehe. I'd love to come back here for a long time, though. This wacky place is still the best board around... It's a bit surprising to hear a translation for the DS game has been in the works. What about all the other, older, more important ones that need to get done first?

Ys VI PC is now being handled by doppiapunta and his team. He and everyone are awesome people, they're very kind, and translation is going very smoothly. Same for the people working on Ys DS. Also after Ys VI PC is done, they intend to work on Ys ORIGIN, this time with Wyrdwad's help (he's in Hawai now btw). And, well, it's great to know the translation may be of good quality! But I still keep what I said: I honestly encourage the Ys DS project. Also, Inochi, I cling to many game series as well. Recently I haven't touched anything Falcom, or even Ys! xD But I still stay here, it's such an awesome place. And the spam thread is always there. And we always create a topic for the game or game series we want to talk about, such as the recent threads for Mother 3 and Tales of the Abyss. I personally have dived into all products (games, novels, animes, mangas) from TYPE-MOON. I can't shut up about them. xD My point is: this is dAh forumz

The fortune teller from Ys I, her name is spelled Sara h in the screenshots. I don't mind that personally, but I know FM-77 does. yah, I think you're right, yikes. At least Slaghf keeps his bastard name.

Now I'm starting to wonder if and how much impact Ys Book I and II on Wii's VC had on this game's sudden NA approval...
If anyone was wondering, IIRC, on the Monday it released it barely made it into the top 10 for NA (either that or it only made it into the Canadian charts, because apparently we're the cooler Wii owners, despite our tinier size).

I'm concerned about the translation, but other than that, great news. I really hope the translators for this game did their research. The fortune teller from Ys I, her name is spelled Sara h in the screenshots. I don't mind that personally, but I know FM-77 does. I am too, but I would rather play a game with crappy English, then go through slowly translating my way through Japanese.

LEGACY OF Ys!!! Woo!!!! I hope Atlus fixes some of the issues with the japanese version; most notably, pixelated Adol (due to camera, etc.) and the tone-deaf music (Subter. Canal) in Ys II.

At least they've spelt it right in the Atlus faithful e-mail. Although, the e-mail doesn't say anything that the links here haven't said. "On February 10, 2009, experience these two celebrated classics - together on a single cartridge - as never before!"

Watch people complain that the game is dated! Huzzah!
While I like the fact that Ys showing up here and there now, I wonder what exactly prompted companies to bring them over? :o I don't really think it was the fan-base since we don't really seem that vocal or rabid. XD

Dahm Tower. xD Hehe, oh well. About Deuce, Inochi, you can get all the info through this thread. But putting it simply, he just suddenly got real mad (and deleted his post that showed it) and then it was understood he definitely quit things, or so it seemed. I personally believe he actually didn't mean it, but I don't think he's the type of guy to take back his own words... edit: Gohan the Bandit. Haha, this one's name translations are going to be funny. edit2: Dark Pearl ... seriously, I'm starting to get a feeling the translation done in this game was VERY poor. I'm starting to get worrried.

XD Quite a few people seem to be saying this is all thanks to people buying the Ys Book I and II release on VC. I really didn't think that many people had bought it to make a difference, though... it really is surprising. Maybe Atlus just saw a potential hit with Ys and just grabbed up the localization rights? About Deuce, Inochi, you can get all the info through this thread. Oh well, I hope he's doing well, wherever he is now...

The question is, what's the chance of Atlus bringing over other Ys games?

I guess none. They are advertising the game like hell, but without gameplay footage. I'm afraid of the reviews to come when it gets released. XD Oh well, let's support them! XD I did the same as MP83 and registered on their boards.

The question is, what's the chance of Atlus bringing over other Ys games? I'm 99.9% sure that if someone asked them, their answer would be something like "That depends on how well this game does". And yeah, it's looking bad if they can't fix the game up enough to get reviewers to give it something at least above average. These kind of niche games rely on good reviews in order to sell to a good enough sized crowd. A lot of niche DS games in the past have succeeded like that (only exception to that rule I can think of for the DS is Nervous Brickdown. Awesome game, very little sales). But I've heard that Atlus sometimes looks at fan advice, like on their boards and stuff...
