Thats as far as I read, and then I lost interest.

I'd like to do even more than get rid of the internet. If I had the metal power to make myself, I'd go to Siberia and live like Rocky in Rocky IV (and earn the physical power and stamina to stay there). Or maybe somewhere similar but greener (like northern India, all those hills just before you hit the snowy himalayan areas). But alas, I cannot reboot myself, I am accustomed to the traditional life... full of constant headaches. I really do agree. I mean, it wasn't really hard for me to realize TV wrecks minds... so many kids don't grow up with their own imagination anymore. Not saying that all of it is bad, but I'd say the majority of it is today. It's becoming the same with gaming too. It's probably better just not to mingle with it at all. It's just that it's far easier to not be addicted to all of this stuff if you're never introduced to it, or stuck on it. Umm, forgive me if I'm not making sense what I'm saying is that the media is out to control people's minds and get them to buy so much useless crap, through the internet, TV, advertising, or just follow other's tastes... It's especially that way with kids. I just think it's better for a person to be able to avoid all of that completely and just think for themselves. Why does 50% of the kids of the nation need to be obsessed with one thing and constantly give money to whatever some corporation slews out? Ok, that was all basically focused on the TV part of the article... but really, I agree with all 10 things, I just really fail at them. At least I have 5 down, I don't own a cellphone and barely even use the telephone I nearly have 2 and 6 down...

I window-shop a hell of a lot more than actual shopping for crap I KNOW I don't need. Initially, I'd get the urge to buy it and then after thinking about it and finding no justification of needing it, I'd just shrug and ignore it in the end. The exception this year was the EEE PC. >:/ But, maybe it'll end up like a lot of electronics stuff I get and prove to be useful in unexpected situations! But! I do agree that the media is out to yoink all our moneys~ and children are prime targets cuz they're so impulsive. They're not going to be like adults and rationally think about purchases. :B BTW, I didn't click on the link. ^^;;;;

Really good article. I enjoyed it, and take it seriously...because I think a bunch about how I need to improve school'n. They really do point out a lot of things that make sense, and whether they really do what they say they do or not, all you have to do is think that it is working.
Thanks a bunch for the link Red, read it all and appreciate it. I guess I will stop watching the World Series, and get my Public Informative Speech done for class tomorrow.

"I'm awesome, I only eat a selection of fair trade berries handpicked in the traditional manner from the Southern slopes of <some place> mountain range"
To be honest, they sound like an insufferable jerk to me - the sort of person you'd prepare a meal for who wouldn't eat the chicken unless you bought it from Jake, the friendly local organic farmers market chicken guy.
Yes, TV is bad. Doing lots of things constantly is bad. Stress is bad. I live in the real world, not an eco-friendly mud hut with a solar panel.

It is true on both sides, he talks about killing drama on your side, but if some one made food for you, I am sure you would eat that food. Unless it was utterly rediculous, like Batter-Fried Oreo's after them making you fried Chicken. After Chicken Ceaser Salad with a generous amount of home-made dressing. I think these things pretty much are given. I can't imagine how it would be have a lifestyle opposite of what he's talking about. For no reason (other than me being really bored, see below), I will comment on each point. Feel free to not read it. 1. I don't have Internet, I "borrow" (without them knowing it) some neighbour's wireless connection, although it is very unreliable and only works in ten minute shifts. Pretty much. I do not intend to get my own connection. 2. I very very rarely watch tv. I hate movies, I hate most tv-shows and most of all: I hate ads!! Seeing as they're on all the time, there's a lot of boycotting necessary on my part. I refuse to buy any product that I see on tv. Fuck tv, fuck the whole business! 3. I eat a lot of vegetables and stuff. I feel mentally bad eating crap food (and sometimes physically), so I try to stay away from it. I'm also trying to avoid eating things that contain E(insert number here) ingredients. It's usually poison. 4. I always sleep in the dark. 5. I usually don't carry my cellphone with me. And I very rarely use it. I don't like talking on the phone, and I hate typing sms messages. 6. Not sure about the drama stuff. But I'm a very person and I avoid stressful people. So no drama on my part. 7. I (almost) always do things I really enjoy. I don't understand the point of wasting precious time by doing boring crap (even though I sometimes do it myself). Although I really enjoy things like others might not. Cleaning, for example. The only time I feel that I am bored, and am wasting time is that I am using the Internet. I often feel guilty for doing it, so I'm glad I can't do it whenever I want anymore. Really glad! In fact, I wish that my neighbour with the wireless connection would move away. I would still be able to bother you guys, and read your nice posts, but not quite as often. 8. Meditation is BS. 9. I exercise every day, and I am outside often. I love being in nature, and where I live now, there's basically nothing but that. 10. I don't really read books, but I know of many that I WANT to read, but am too lazy to. I'll do it someday. This made me sound like a hippy. But I'm not. I just dislike a lot of crap, which hippys also tend to hate. I just live my life which is natural to me. It makes me happy.

Out of a quick glance of that list I found two things that I lack. 1. I use the internet far too much. 2. I don't read much. Not high quality things anyway.
I actually was reading a good book a few days ago and read more than half of it at once but afterwards became so preoccupied with other stuff I didn't finish it. =/

Remember to download lots of torrents so that the neighbour ends up paying more than he needs to for the Internet. But ... why doesn't the neighbour password protect his damn connection? What a dork. Anyway, yeah, a lot of the stuff on that site is common sense. (Yes, I looked at the page, finally. However, I just skimmed the wall of text, really.) In fact, the guy's just trying to get us to live the pre-internet, pre-TV days! I mean, this is how life was 293487239 years ago! Seriously though, if you want a healthier lifestyle, get off your ass and turn off the computer and/or TV. Get out and do stuff. Eat healthy foods. It's not rocket science, guys. Not really sure why everyone finds a post like the one on that site to be so profound. 9_9

I actually ended up reading all that while having my soup! (Or actually, I got bored by point number 7 and just skimmed through the rest... :'D) Anyways... '4- BLACK OUT YOUR BED ROOM AND SLEEP IN THE PITCH DARK
Most people don't realize how under slept they are. Even if you go to bed early there's still usually light leaking into your room that deprives you of sleep.'Who on earth can sleep in a pitch dark, pin drop, end of the world silence?! I can't stand sleeping like that! I must absolutely have some sort of light from somewhere shining away, otherwise I always get really bad dreams (or disturbed sleep). This guy also sleeps a lot too. 10 hours would give me a headache for a week. Its also nice when crickets and cats are making lots of noise outside. (Or in the case of my current sleeping habits, the gardener!) I can kind of agree with him on the internet stuff though. It does slowly creep up on you, eat away your time, and convince you that anything is bound to be better than doing one's work. :'D Ofcourse, that could be said about almost everything else too... *resists urge to reach out for DS* (Mweh heh... I should be working right now...)I'd like to do even more than get rid of the internet. If I had the metal power to make myself, I'd go to Siberia and live like Rocky in Rocky IV (and earn the physical power and stamina to stay there). Or maybe somewhere similar but greener (like northern India, all those hills just before you hit the snowy himalayan areas). If it helps, you'll find the internet near the Himalayas too. And tv. And Sephiroth keychains. What, you've been there? Anyways, I meant in a secluded area there. Seclusion is impossible to find here. also, the 10 hours of sleep is a bit harsh. You don't actually need that many at all, I don't know where this guy got that from. 6 to 8 is normal, but it's possible to get by with less if you do it right (I read an article on it a while back, forgot exactly how). I can sleep in the dark now, but I actually like to leave my blinds open and the window slightly open too (air circulation, etc). The problem is my sleep patterns... it's better to go to bed and get up at the same time every day. Also, hermits can be healthy. I'd say most of them are (except probably those sadhus that smoke hash ). This article is only trying to promote the bare necessities, that's the way I see it.

I personally liked the article overall, not it entirely. Kind of like Yakra, I read until I got at the 7th or 8th part... well, at the meditation one, and then I skipped the rest. xD But I really liked what I read. About the internet, I think he's right. In my case, I'd never get rid of it though. Afterall, I access this place via internet, plus that article itself is hosted on the internet. XD Also I can talk to many people using tools such as MSN, even when they're physically far away. But I agree with him that simply surfing the internet is bad, because you become addicted to it, and some other things. I guess I'll try to moderate myself a little. About TV, that guy is totally correct. I mean, I don't watch TV anymore for years already; there's only crap! xD And really stupid advertisements. And brainwashing. And I found to be EXTREMELY interesting to know they change the TV/ Channel frames or something every 7 seconds, so that you brain get stimulated without you knowing it, making you addicted to it as well. Now I should avoid it even more. I only watch some cientific programs, most from Discovery Channel. Nature things... and Mythbusters. xD But even that I don't do often. About eating lots of fruits and little fats, I really, really do know what that guy is talking about. I'm not a person who eats lots of fats or anything, and I don't eat too many fruits, but I do take care of myself, relatively. But whenever I stayed at the house of a friend from school, I always felt MUCH more healthy, because in his house there are lots of fruits to eat, lots of trees around the house (high concentration of oxygen)... and we also stayed away from TV, and rode the bike sometimes out there in the calm streets. Every morning his family made a dense "juice" of many fruits (it's called a vitamin I think) whcih I never drink at home, I'd rather drink coffee with milk. But drinking that thing instead, even though I didn't like it much (and was cold), minutes later I could feel myself extremely healthy, and full of energy to do anything non-stop. I guess that's it for the moments. I'm glad some of you liked the article. I also really liked it. It was a good read.

I don't download anything on this connection ("this", is incorrect, as I am not using my neighbour's one right now! ) I just use it to do some simple browsing if I need it when I am home... it's way too slow for anything else. Only 0,5 Mbit! I guess the guy doesn't know enough about computers to secure the connection. You guys are weird and lack imagination. How can living a healthy life (like explained in the article) make you a hermit?! Damaged from this modern (unhealthy) lifestyle I guess.

I know what you mean, the article just reaks of "exclusive" thinking, which is a characteristic I just cannot stand in some people.

Exactly.
I've got no problem with the idea behind the article, and I do some of it myself, but the "Look how enlightened I am and how pitiful they are" attitude of the author is disgusting.

Wow, I guess I skiped that part. I didn't see it. That's pretty much arrogant and stupid. Nothing is more important than moral and ethics in our society. Although overall I think his article is good, nonetheless. Oh, also I don't have a cellphone. I find it to be annoying and useless. To phone, I use a phone. To send e-mail and stuff I use a PC. To play games, I use a PC or gaming console/ portable. Etc. It has its advantages, but most of them, if not all of them, aren't a necessity. I used to own one, but never actually used it. When needed (which is pretty rare) I just borrow one from my dad, as he also doesn't use it very much. Also note that Brazil is the 2nd country that people most use a cellphone, only behind Japan. (I find this to be a shame though.) So it's always a shock for the people when they ask me my cellphone # and I tell them I have none.

What, you've been there? Yip! (The pakistan side that is...) Exactly. I've got no problem with the idea behind the article, and I do some of it myself, but the "Look how enlightened I am and how pitiful they are" attitude of the author is disgusting. Actually, it was this very tone of his that err-ed me off so much from the article. Otherwise, half the stuff he said was actually good and sensible! It was just the way he said it... >___>' And... cellphones are good! Very useful for: - Taking pictures of new stuff that's arrived in the mail - The flashlight, for when you get lost in some ruins (or the electricity suddenly disappears, leaving you surrounded by food) - The tetris game, when you are stuck in a boring appointment somewhere Otherwise its useless. A bother infact!
