Wow, nice find MP. Thanks for posting the demo up, as there are a few people I know will enjoy that.
I may end up buying that title now.

So "Touhou" is a name or a pseudonym or a brand, developed by like almost the original indie developer in the new world? Amazing!

Touhou is just a shmup series, no big deal

No, I know some of the games aren't shmups, but that doesn't change what the series really is. It would be a bit like saying FF isn't an RPG series because of Dissidia.

Well, I consider the non-shmups spinoffs like Dissidia, so I still refer to Touhou as a shmup series... which it is. As for him doing it alone, it's alright I guess. The graphics are ugly and the music's not exactly a string of compositional masterpieces either so the only impressive part for me is the programming. I just don't see the big deal about it. I'd rather play a 9/10 game made by 10 people than a 7/10 game made by one guy, but some people have a hard-on for super indie projects, I suppose.

No, then I would say the series evolved and shifted it's focal point. "Shmup series" doesn't necessarily denote that it's exclusively shmups, merely that the series is mainly about shmup games, which I still think is correct. The reason I call the other ones spin-offs is because he makes one of those games and then several shmups in between, so it's obvious the focal point is still shmups.

I didn't even notice that, I just noticed someone talking about Touhou and jumped in with my opinion, since I like to rag on things I find overrated. But yeah, they're not exclusively shmups, I'm not trying to say otherwise. Seriously though, why does anyone wanna make doujin games about Touhou...? The characters are all so one-dimensional and you barely even know them from playing the games. The plot of the various games aren't really anything to celebrate either. I mean, they're exactly what I expect of a shmup (so I'm not ragging on Touhou here, for once), but that's why I take issue with it in the first place.

I think the cutest way to tell a female their breasts are small is to call them pe-chipai. For english speakers, it sounds like peachy pie. And who doesn't like pie?
Edit: I should probably mention I haven't heard this slang in quite a few years now, though I assume it's still used.

Probably has the most unremarkable soundtrack of the whole series. TH6 and TH8, on the other hand... It's still a fun game to play with friends, though, and also one of the easiest in the series. Except that by now I would guess that the fanbase for the spinoff fighting games is larger than the one for the danmaku Why do people make doujins about anything? It's sort of a cool thing that Touhou barely has any story, because nothing limits the fans' fantasy. If you saw Touhou manzai, you'd understand ^__^

You are hardly troll enough to torment me with anything. And I've seen that my opinions vary greatly from most of the frequent posters here. That and their willingness to argue the minutia of anything said makes it easier to just not bring up stuff that's already be discussed in the past.

I tend to argue a lot for some reason. Usually I just feel like stating my opinion, but then I say it in a manner that's harsh enough that people feel compelled to respond (most of the HJ vs. Wyrd FFVII arguments come to mind), or something like that.

I know how you feel, I'll defend Ace Attorney from anyone and anything, too. I don't think one party is more guilty than the other in this case, though. I have to admit, I don't really try my hardest to phrase it in a way that doesn't instigate an argument.

A lot of it is me, I'll readily admit. I get uber-defensive when people say the slightest thing that sets me off, and I really need to work on stopping that. -Tom Popolocrois sucks ***Runs for the hills***

Run for your Liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiife! Like I said, it's not so much the discussion (or vehement fanboy defense.. I've felt the uncontrollable urge to defend many things I've liked in the past) but more than I've already expressed my opinion on Touhou as a whole before to the point where I can't even remember which communities have gotten my full rant and which have only seen hints. Here's the bullet point slideshow 2nd edition: -No sir, I don't like Touhou -Like FFVII I hate the fans even more than the game, especially their Touhou memes -The art of Touhou sucks. Like Higurashi VN-level sucks -The stories and characters are shallow and a lot of what's wrong with anime to the point that fans have been able to canonically change the personalities of characters in the past -The gameplay is meh. Modern Touhou is more of a boss rush than a shmup, and bullet patterns aren't as innovative or interesting as inventing whole new boss battles and styles like classic boss rush games (Gunstar Heroes, Contra Hard Corps, Alien Soldier, etc). Also sprites of animu characters are far less visually interesting than well-rendered Cave-quality enemy battleships/fish -I like the music but it suffers from bad MIDI instrumentation. Imperishable Night is my favorite OST. ZUN created Team Shanghai Alice as a way to keep making music and Touhou was just a wrapper and it shows -There are far, far better shmups out there that get overlooked because of all the memes. And its annoying much like beginning anime fans who have only seen DBZ/Naruto/Bleach/Inuyasha/etc -By extension of hatred of the mythos of the series and the fans, I dislike Touhou doujin games. How 'bout making something original instead of copying a bad series? I would've jumped at a Lolo-esque game if it wasn't Touhou themed

So... who the hell is Moe, and why does everyone hate on him so much? He's the bartender from the Simpsons and a constant reminder of how the show used to be funny

I still like the Simpsons. People expect it to be cutting edge like Family Guy, and I can't understand why. If you watch Season 6, and then watch Season 18, its still the same humor.
