What's better than a warm blanket?
Well other than a chilly blanket in the heat of summer~
But in Canadian winters? BRING THE HEAT!

Not much of a Touhou Fanboy myself, but couldn't help making some corrections. -Like FFVII I hate the fans even more than the game, especially their Touhou memes From what I saw, it's really not nearly as bad as Narutards or rabid FFVII fans, or Bethesda fans, etc. Touhou fans normally exist in their own little world and don't try to convince everyone how awesome it is. Plus, they are probably the most productive fans, making anything from spinoff games to comedy shows. Correction: ZUN's Touhou art sucks. Touhou fanart kicks official fanart for about anything out there in the balls. It's a shmup, geez. Do you expect War&Peace-level writing? And I don't see how fans having a say in the series is a bad thing. Plus it happens all the time with doujin products. For example, the character personality inconsistencies between Tsukihime and Kagetsu Tohya. I'm sure many people would be inclined to disagree. I personally was getting sick of every single shmup having some ridiculous space setting. Examples? I mean sure, MIDI is MIDI, but most of the time isn't not that bad. YS6 suffered a lot from this problem too, but I know yall still love the music ^__^ Not to mention that a remix for about every Touhou song in about every style of music is out there, something that can't be said about other games. Considering how full Touhou doujin fandom is of references to outside things, anime series, popular culture etc, I doubt that it's reasonable to compare it to any extent to the close-mindedness of "Naruto only" fans. Someone that close-minded would simply "not get" most of the fandom. Hell, I still have trouble picking up on all the references. Official Touhou games ARE doujin games Also, doujin is for fans by fans. You're pretty much trying to deny any sort of fandom the right to exist here, which would make life a lot more boring. Also, it's like saying "I hate Three Musketeers cause there's too many movies made after it. Make something original, geez". The Touhou fans do a kickass job at what they do, games or otherwise, and well, if you don't like the setting you're out of luck. tl;dr There's lots to dislike about ZUN's Touhou games, but in all honesty dissing the fandom in all its multiplicity and richness is a travesty. Not to mention that the fanbase for the game is far too broad to be so easily generalized and judged. Probably at least half of the fans never played a TH shmup, either.

Are you actually unfamiliar with the concept of "moe," or was that just a joke? It was mostly a joke, though I can't seem to remember what moe is; possibly the flat-chested thing, possibly the cat/animal/creature-ears thing, (Hey! That makes Hugh Hefner, Moe!) I don't recall.

You're still a bit off, wyrd. Generally, "moe" was a word to describe interest for an anime character, which sort of migrated to have the meaning of characteristics capable of causing the interests. As such, it started exactly with sexualization of anime characters, and while certain series may have strayed from the concept, but it's still there. It's different from the hentai approach, of course - about as different as Gravure Idols are from JAV. So I'd say "entirely non-sexual" is a bad description - if there's no sexuality involved, it's not moe. Recognizing one type as "true" moe while dissing others is a bald move, sir Also, I'd say that the prime characteristic of moe isn't innocence but helplessness, and innocence is only significant when it plays a role as a part of the latter. Personal comment: calling anything moe "tasteful" is surely very kind of you... PS: The word also has another meaning, close to sth like "fetish", e.g. meganekko-moe.

Not saying there aren't outliers to this, but in general if a character in a series is meant to be "moe", they keep her as pure as possible. They don't get as attached to characters who aren't pure and actually the more perverted among them (or most of them) prefer to see the corruption of said characters in their h-doujins than ever in the source material

You're correct about the "Protective" feeling, I also mentioned it in my post... It's just that, despite the pureness of it, I find it still having an inevitable sexual element to it. I think my comparison of Gravure Idol to JAV illustrates the point fairly well. If you disagree with that, most of moe-otaku culture would like to have a word with you ^____^ Although I guess there's also a difference between intent and reception. While it has largely blended by now, it may have existed in the past. Umm, lol. I guess, as a "what if" scenario, maybe. If you can provide an example, I'll be utterly amazed. Also, I forget where ef came from, but CLANNAD is an ero-VN, and gained its initial popularity as such, in Japan at least. "Tastefully censored" at best, although I'd say anything that has inciting unnatural attachment, be it sexual or purely emotional, to a fictional character is far from "tasteful". But ah, opinions. Why have we hijacked this thread, again? I believe we were talking about Touhou and how awesome the fan culture is? Can I make an effort to get the thread back on track?

Oh, that's right. I forgot about all the comparisons of CLANNAD to tea without water, gun without bullets, book without words... ero vn without ero. The intention and format is still there though, so nothing much changes.

The western Touhou fanbase is absolutely horrid, as it's largely comprised of people who haven't even played the games and IOSYS lovers.

I don't care about the fans for any series. I like the games, so they are cool in my book. I'm not going to worship them in a bout to fulfill a lacking sex life, or something.
It makes me sad when fandom has a negative effect on the product in question.

What I don't understand is why there's so much argument and hate for this and that on this forum lately. :P And then people try to enforce their opinion as the right opinion and make others feel bad for not accepting it. WTF? Anyway, happy new purchases forthcoming and things on order! :DDDDD The on-orders: - S-Video PSP cable (mehopes YesAsia can source this! TT Or else it's eBay I go. :P)
- DSi LL case (for the XL I'll eventually be getting. XD)
- The House of the Dead: Overkill
- Estpolis DS OST (pre-ordered too late to be included in the first shipment. >_<)
The soon-to-be-purchased: - PS3
- DSi XL
- KH: Birth by Sleep Ultimania
- Command & Conquer 4
- The Complete C&C compilation of every damn C&C game ever made whenever EA decides to release it
- Sengoku Basara 3
Oh my, Portal 2 has been announced. Not that I should really care since I've yet to even try Portal. :P

There hasn't really been any bickering. Unless you consider arguing to be the same as bickering, but that would just be silly. There was some bickering brewing in that Lunar topic, but that's the only thing I noticed.

Webster only lists the words as "related". In any case, bickering implies anger and hostility, which is why I don't think that's the right word.
