I hate stuff like this. I don't get bothered if people ask the same question several times, and I don't get why others do either. And I really hate it when people leave out some important bit of information in their FAQ or other big thread, and when somebody asks it, everybody says USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION!!! Nobody should be allowed to say "use the search function" until somebody has developed a seach engine that doesn't suck. Try to find the thread where some member said they were'd bid on another member's Ebay auction, although it had already ended a long time ago, for example. I dare you!  By the way, is it just me, or has Google gotten worse in the last year or so? |

I haven't noticed Google getting "worse" or "better". Its just google. As for the "use the search function", yeah I hate lame people like that. Again the Gamefaqs boards are TERRIBLE FOR THIS. Many of the users on there spend more time surfing the boards than playing the actual game. I can't stand people like that, as it pushes more fans away from the community. Seriously, how many people do you think will have signed up here, if the MODS freaked out on new posters every time they had a question. "Like hey doods, I need help in Ys" "USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION NEXT TIME, AND ITS Ys NOT Ys, GOD LIKE GET IT RIGHT!!!" Well.... there is someone who at least does half of that |

YES. GameFAQs needs to blow up for their crapoid search engine. Just search topic headers!? What the fuck useless shit is that? I mean, half the topics usually start with "Need help plz."
I doubt many people look up "Help". >_>
And what's worse is that the search function only becomes available at a certain level!? (At least, it was the last time I checked.)
And people wonder why users post the same question 159085467 times.
Still, at the Ys forums here, it would be spiffy if new folks searched first before posting. :P I've used the search function many times and know there's nothing wrong with it. :B

I dunno about "nothing wrong with it". I've always had trouble on forums. I look back a couple pages, give my apologies in case it has already been said, and just post. Generally, that is good enough.
If someone posts something that has already been said, just nicely link them to the topic that said it already.

Oh, the Gamefaqs community can be quite terrible. Even worse than people just telling you to use the search button are the people who say "Look at the FAQ." Well, gee if people can't ask questions that may already be on the FAQ then what's the point of each game having it's own board?
Their search function is not only limited but sometimes it just won't work! I don't know if it's because I'm using Firefox but sometimes it'll just show an error when I try to search something.

I know Gamefaqs tried to combat the issue with "social" and normal boards for certain games, but the problem lies with the fans. Most people are assholes when they think they are great at something (See Nunuu's Youtube issue).
To date, I have never used a search function for a message board.

XD *high-fives nunuu for PaRappa reference* I agree with Smithee though; instead of being an asshole and saying "WE'VE HEARD THIS 1234912938 FUCKING TIMES, SEARCH THE FUCKING BOARD FOR FUCKING INFO ON HOW TO FUCK A DUCK!!!", you should say "Here's a quick and painless link on how to fuck a duck" and be done with it. It's assholes like that, that make GameFAQs a stupid pile of shit. That, and the assholes that are like "This game fucking sucks!" and don't provide a reasonable explanation for it -- and that's why I don't give a certain forum moderator here any lip; s/he/it does a damn good job at reasonably explaining why [Rygar/Ys Origin/your mom] sucks!  |
