Just watched a wee bit of the Game Center CX vid and my lord. The graphics are STUNNING. (I guess it shouldn't be a surprise considering it's Square Enix. :P)
I still need me a PS3! I'm hoping to snatch up one for a decent price in after Christmas sales. Kekekekeke. XD

I don't know the character in question (neither of my friends who played the game had her in their party, nor did I see any story scenes with her in them that I can remember), so she's probably just a lot more annoying than I'm imagining her to be. Only in the English version, kay? Also I refuse to watch any new FF13 footage now I've got the thing preordered. I only hope it arrives in time for me to be unwrapping it on Christmas day, stupid super close release.

Also just in case anyone doubts it, yes, that really plays in game, I have heard it. I... couldn't quite believe it the first time.

Japanese gamers made a ranking list for FFDQ difficulty
FF11>FF13>FF4>FF3>DQ2>DQ6>FF8>DQ7>FF5>FF1>FF2>FF12>DQ4>DQ3>FF9>DQ8>FF10>FF6>DQ1>DQ5>FF7
:\ ? FF11 definitely hardest because it is MMORPG but FF13 :\ ? FF9 more difficult than DQ8 or FF6 ?

FF13 is definitely the hardest FF game I've played. It's not impossibly hard if you understand and properly use the games systems like the roles properly, but it will still keep you on your feet, and if you don't and just try hammering attack or something, you're gonna die, especially since the crystarium levels after each chapter there's only so much 'levelling' you can *do* before each boss. It's basically impossible to be "overlevelled" until a few chapters off the end of the game.
The summon beasts battles are the worst, because you have to work out a specific way to beat them based on what it says in their Libra/scan profile. Follow that pattern to raise its Drive metre to maximum, then you press square to subjugate them. They have infinite HP, and can't be broken. And the battle starts with you being put under death sentence, so you only have about 1700 'ticks' to do it. Here's one example (hidden in case anyone really wants to work them all out alone like I did):
Scan Alexander and you get these as its characeristics: - Will recognise one who stores a chain bonus as its master. - Will recognise one who heals their allies as its master. - Will recognise one who supports and strengthens their allies as his master. You have Hope, Lightning and Fang. So basically you have to do all the above, QUICKLY. Start the battle with Hope as an Enchanter and buff everyone up, or his punch will slaughter you. This is on the list, so you get drive points for it. Not a huge amount though, you CAN'T win by simply healing or buffing. You'd also have Lightning as a healer at this point to keep you alive, and Fang attacking to keep him distracted. Anyway, once your buffs are all cast, you basically have to start optima changing like crazy. Unless both Hope and Lightning both get a good number of blaster spells, you're not going to make the time, but Fang doesn't have a healer role unlocked by default so she basically has to defend or attack while you have Hope/Lightning on blaster ramming its drive metre up until your HP gets below about half, then switch her to healer until you're full and relatively safe, then switch back again. Again, playing it safe with Blaster/Healer/Defender permanently won't get you enough drive in time. I managed to win with about 150 ticks left, whew.
Thanks to the restart system and full heals after every battle and stuff, the actual battles had to be made harder, and they were. I really like this system, no worrying about MP or whatever, yet you still get quite a challenge, especially if you look for it. A lot of the harder enemies can be quite easily avoided, but will give you a really fulfilling challenge if you beat them, and generally they and the bosses hit HARD. Even the weaker enemies will sometimes swarm you in huge numbers. Couple of magic slugs is no problem, but nine of them without a preemptive strike? lol, you're dead unless you have two healers.

That's ridiculous, FF games aren't ever the same, so you can't hate it just because it's FF; maybe if the games were all extremely similar like Dragon Quest, but they aren't. To have a grudge against a company and therefore it's mainstay series like Wyrd does is one thing (which is still disagreeable IMO, but I'm not touching on that again), but this just... wrong. Having a negative opinion of the game is fine if it's because you don't like the gameplay and stuff like that, but "I'm tired of playing FF games" doesn't make any sense. Also, maybe it wasn't your intention, but you come off as horribly arrogant saying things like "I'd rather move on to play other series of RPGs that are ten times better".

...Now, I want to ask a little question here: The game is trying too hard to be challenging or is just part of the "charm" and overall system of the game? I'm not sure how Varion feels, but for me it's just the right sort of challenging, and doesn't feel forced at all. Actually, I find it strikes something of a sweet spot between being challenging and being fair in a way very few RPGs do. It's not unlike a Vagrant Story or Shin Megami Tensei, in that if you take the time to learn the game's systems and play properly you'll come through most fights unscathed if a little shaken up, but if you play badly the game will take great pleasure in offing you very quickly indeed. ^_^ I've died a lot of times, but every time I have it's been through no fault but my own, and every time I was able to win without leveling by simply retrying with a different strategy. I couldn't help but nod along while reading Varion's comments on the summon battles, though. I've only fought a handful so far, but they are without a doubt some of the most hectic Japanese RPG boss fights I've ever come across. They border on being outright scary at times, especially if you're something of a nervous wreck like me. ^^

@yggdrasil: Well, okay, I can accept that explanation. Incidentally, I'm looking forward to Bioshock 2 as well.
@wyrd: Yeah, but pretty much all JRPGs share certain character archetypes and things like that. If he was tired of JRPGs as a whole that would be one thing, but it was because he said he's going on to play other RPGs that are ten times better that it seemed more like he was just biased against FFXIII solely because it has the FF name, and not because of the things you mentioned. That's why I said it doesn't make sense. But he explained it now, so it doesn't really matter anymore.

Yeah, basically. I've never used levelling up as a way to get past a boss, it's usually more of a case of taking its patterns back to the drawing board and using roles better. It's absolutely not 'trying to be hard for the sake of it', it's dealing wonderfully with the old FF criticism that 'you can get through battles just using Attack'. Nope, sorry buddy, not anymore you can't. Combat's now one of my favourite parts of the game, which I can't say for a single other FF game I've ever played. Couple that with the story, interesting world, and surprisingly likeable characters and I really, really like the game, despite going in with no real expectations at all.

There's nothing disharmonious about that rendition! Chaotic, sure, but not disharmonious. Quite the opposite, in fact! -Tom Agreed. Loved it to bits.

That rendition is great.
The game seems great too, as far as I'm concerned. I'm looking forward to playing it.
That old FF criticism seems to hold true for most JRPGs, though. If you can heal and attack, you can usually win every non-boss battle.
