There, I said it. Almost the entire second half is near-perfect, but I honestly prefer the TurboGrafx versions about 2/3rds of the time.

I like it, but in a different way that I do with the PS2 and TCD versions. They all rule, so whatever.

I think the PS2 version is the best, but OiF is ok in my books. Its nothing great, and the original tracks are much better. OiF is just average anyways.

It IS good, mind you. It was just a 9.3 level good, whereas the Turbografx version, IMO, was a 9.5.
And DOY rules all.
Additionally, I semi-lied in the first post, it was more like I preferred a third of the tracks and the rest was kind of a toss-up. There were maybe 3 or 4 tracks that I DID like better in Oath.

I was totally agreeing with you, until you pulled that one. DOY is my least favorite Ys.

There was nothing in that post about the PS2 remake. Perhaps you haven't heard it, or played it. I can help with the former if need be, as it really is a good soundtrack.

I guess because it was the first version I played, I've always preferred the SNES soundtrack to the PC-Engine one - crap instrumentation, but FAR better arrangements of each song IMHO. Eh, some of the arrangements were kinda interesting, but like you said, crap instrumentation. It was like they were trying to do old-school chiptune music... but were doing it with the SNES' sound chip, which was made to be the exact opposite of that. Thankfully Tonkinhouse learned their lesson in time for Ys IV and managed to pull out a fairly decent soundtrack for that one. Lava Area - A Kiss for Eldeel is simply amazing on that soundtrack. Anyways, the thing I like about Ryo Yonemitsu's arrangements in general is that they have a sort of 'clear' sound to them. I'm not sure how to really describe it.

I think it deserves a place among legendary soundtracks, but here and there I like other versions of certain songs better.
A few examples Valestine Castle (Turbo) Frozen in time (YsF) Prayer for love (the organ room) (SNES) Strongest Foe (Turbo) Ilberns ruins (I love the "galloping" intro part in the SNES version. I wish they used it for YsF. Tie between YsF and SNES versions)

Oh no, not that again... xDD Justin! Don't ever mention Ys III PS2 before WyrdWad! It's a no-no! Or else we will be in an endless loop of Ys III/F discussion. But in summary, the ones who like Ys III PS2 best (or almost) are: you, me and FM-77. I think that Unsavory too.

We won't know yet, until it arrives. I'm looking forward to it, personally. After beating Sonic Unleashed, even the worst of Ys experiences would seem fun to me!

i think the best arrangement for Ys III soundtrack is in OiF, they really made a great work, and using real instruments have take the soundtrack to another level
if we don't consider OiF, the best soundtrack is nor the one of the turbograph, not even the one for snes, but the one for genesis/megadrive, and not only the soundtrack, but the game itself is better there, the TG and snes version can't even be compared
