Hi Everyone, Over the last week I've been playing around with the idea of restructuring my current XyZ site that started as a site that would focus only on the Xak, Ys and Zelda series. Since then I've wanted to add additional sections for the Xanadu/Faxanadu/Xanadu Next series, the Golvellius series, my all time favorite NES game, Crystalis / Godslayer, and possibly the Neutopia series as well as update/expand the section for the list of known action-adventure rpgs. But the name, XyZ doesn't seem to fit the mold anymore and I think a new website would better fit as a house for all of these intended series. It's going to be an ambitious project for sure, but I've been talking already with a few members here such as Adoru and Unsavory Fieg who might be interested in helping out with the site, at least with the Xanadu/Faxanadu sections and I'd be happy to invite some others who would be interested in working on some action-adventure-rpg series projects or contributing in whatever ways they can. The overall plan for the site is not to try and introduce several of these series to those who may not have had the opportunity to play them yet and provide help regarding how to play them (Such as Xanadu), and offer content that doesn't already exist on the English side of the internet so far and place it all in one place so that it is easy access for action-adventure rpg fans. I'm really excited about the project, but I've been having a difficult time trying to come up with a good domain name/title for the new site since XyZ no longer applies. It seems that many of my first choices such as "WorldTree.com" and "TheWorldTree.com" (From Faxanadu) seem to be taken. I thought about Labrynthos, but as Fieg pointed out, not all AARPGs follow a labyrinth style path during the adventure. I thought about "AARPG.com" but that was taken as well, and while some other thoughts such as AARPGWorld.com are available, but aesthetically it doesn't seem to wow me all that much as a name. I'm hoping to find something a bit more elegant and fantasy sounding that could apply to this genre of games. Before posting this I looked up the latin word for Adventure, which is "Adventurus" and that sounded great as a name to me, but all they have left is a .org for it and not a .com or .net. .org domains seem more expensive, so I'm not ready to jump on it just yet. So, out of curiosity I thought I'd ask the Ancient Land of Ys community what their thoughts were regarding name suggestions. Thanks in advance! -Thomas

Yes! These are exactly the types of names that my head cannot seem to think of at the moment. Thanks and keep them coming! : )
Of course, I'm sure that many of these like the Black Pearl are taken, but the more suggestions the better the chances are!

You know, if it were a Megaman site I was creating, I'd totally call it Zenny.com. : )
Edit: Well, after much deliberation I think I'm either going to have to choose between:
A) Adventurus.org
and
B) (the)WorldTreeofLegends.com
I do like the simplicity of Adventurus though. It would be a nice logo too I think.

Zenny, Yen, Golds, Ducats, Munny, Coins, Rupees... the currency never ends! "Zeldalys" (ZELDa crystALis Ys) would be cool, but that'd just be XyZ all over again. This'll take some cunning. Ecco has Caverns of Hope and Dark Sea. Zelda has Deku Tree. Shyron Castle Town Port Rimorge ...actually, I think Wyrd was onto something with Cave of Ordeals. That perfectly fits in with just about every AARPG. The only one that doesn't have a cave, is Faxanadu -- unless the World of Mist counts. It's ALMOST a cave, except it's the inside of the World Tree. Zenis (or Zenith, since Zenis rhymes with...) Fortress. It's also Faxanadu based, but name one AARPG that doesn't have a fortress of some sort. // Adventurus? Shouldn't it be Adventurous?

I think that I've been playing around with the concept of using the latin root word for Adventure, which is "Adventum" and various other languages such as "Adventurus" that it has kind of grown on me. However, because both Adventum.com and Adventurus.com have already been taken, I thought that a play on the spelling might work best and I came up with "Adventym" which is close to the original latin root. The "y" in there could look nice from a logo/graphic design standpoint as well, so I think that'll be the winner for now. It's short, unique and fairly easy to remember.
I did try out stuff like CaveofOrdeals.com and it was available, but I can't help but read caveofordeals.com as "cave for deals" which makes the URL look more like a site that is trying to sell something.

*laughs* Yeah, I'm sure something like that would happen with a url like that! You don't tend think about it at first, but after it hits you end up having a big "Oh damn! moment. : )

Don't do it he'll want you to pull your trousers down and then poke you in the ass with hot metal!
Edit: Not the guitar metal that goes meedley-meedley-meedley, the hard kind they make bats and chains out of!

Sure, I'm still open to suggestions at this point, although I've been sitting on naming thing so long, I was just about ready to go out an purchase "Adventym.com" I'll send you a PM and hopefully we can talk about it further. I'd definitely appreciate the help! -THomas

Hehe, I hate hypens though in URLs. They really ruin a name for me. I almost considered it for world-tree.com, but then I found out that even that was taken. : ) I wanted to see about designing the bulk of the layout of the site originally to be very tree-like with branches that branch out to various sites, but the main body of the tree would act as the left-hand navbar. I might still do that though worldtree url or not.
I do like Adventym though, but I'll wait and here the suggestons of DarusGrey first since he offered to do some research on the site's behalf. *laughs* I really do want to start soon though, so some files can start getting uploaded and those who plan to work on some of the sections can start having ftp access to the server. I talked Unsavory Fieg into hosting his Faxanadu project there as well, since there will most likely end up being a fairly large Faxanadu section, so the same offer goes out to you Wrydwad, for when you would like to start up the Xanadu Next translation project.
This website project isn't going to be so much MY site, per se as it is a site that many of us can utilize in creating a decent amount of content for some of these wonderfully badass game series. My plan at least, is to develop enough content that visitors to the site will be so wowed by what is there that they will A) Try out series they have never played before. B) Hopefully jump from one series to the next and start becoming familiar with several classics and C) Be able to use the site as a resource with maps, character, items and FAQ information, as well as plenty of artwork, fanart and other omake content. And of course D) Get into some of the fan-project scenes, such as pointing visitors to the various translation projects that exist for several games such as the Ys series, and eventually Xanadu Next and the various Faxanadu projects, and also provide updated information to other projects that exist out there related to a series, such as the Golvelliius 3D project that is currently being developed, Paranoia Dragon's Neutopia III project, our Xanadu Scenario IV/ New Xanadu project, and other games that seem to fit the mold of Action-Adventure RPGs. Unsavory Fieg has a game he is working on that fits this genre, so he'd be welcome to advertise it there as well.
But it doesn't have to stop there. I've only listed a few series that I personally would enjoy developing content for, but if someone came along and wanted to develop content for a series they enjoyed that fit this genre, they'd be welcome to develop content for it. Series such as possibly the Enix Trilogy (Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia, Terranigma) or stuff like Secret of Mana come to mind as missing series that would surely belong.
In that respect, it becomes more of a community effort than one person working on a site. There could be ways of ensuring security as well for the site so that only trustworthy people have access to the main site, whereas people I've not had a chance to get to know well enough yet could be given ftp access to a specific folder and they could work only on that specific sub-section for the game series they choose.
The hardest part would be to find a uniform look that would tie many of these mini-sites and projects together thematically, but I'm sure it can be pulled off! : )
