Hey everyone,
DarusGrey and I are starting a study on categorization of game genres to help with redefining what makes an Action-Adventure RPG and to also help with developing a good name for a website that will focus on the genre.
To get the best results, we may ask a series of questions over time. We would greatly appreciate anyone who would take the time and PM their thoughts to the questions at hand. Thank you very much for your time!
For the first question, the only requirement is you played or have knowledge of two of the games in the following list.
Oh and:
***** PLEASE DO NOT POST RESPONSES TO THE QUESTION IN THE THREAD, PLEASE PM THEM TO ME INSTEAD *****
Okay, here is the first question:
What 10 defining traits do the following games share?
1. Ys
2. Faxanadu / Xanadu
3. Golvellius
4. Crystalis
5. Neutopia
6. Battle of Olympus
7. Xak
8. Zelda
9. Alundra
10.Illusion of Gaia
***** AGAIN, PLEASE DO NOT POST RESPONSES TO THE QUESTION IN THE THREAD, PLEASE PM THEM TO ME *****
Thanks for your time,
-Thomas

Shouldn't u put Soul Blazers instead of Illusion of Gaia? That way u can have the whole series, like Act raiser, Illusion of Gaia and most of all Terranigma.

Then he'd have a less even number (Gotta count Granstream too)
Also, I think it's called the Heaven and Earth Series?

I thought about that, but since Illusion of Gaia is the better known game of the Enix Trilogy, we decided to just go with that. The gameplay of all three is very similar, but the most versatile in Illusion of the three as you end up having three different characters to play as.
Edit: And I just realized that I said Three three times. : 0

Actually, I'd say that Terranigma is more versatile, as Ark has a greater range of moves and attacks he can do. Will, Freedan, and Shade all fight more or less the same; just with different spells.

Well, I understand the point you all are trying to make, but let's just go with Illusion of Gaia for now. Between DarusGrey and myself, we've probably dropped this questionaire on about eight different forums now and it's probably a bit too late to start making adjustments to one of the games.

THIS IS WHY YOU DON'T GO NUCLEAR ON YOUR FIRST OPTION!
Also, been pondering out good responses. Sooner or later I'll pitch 'em over.

The actual games are fairly irrelevant as long as they're all what we'd consider "AARPGs", and if you think one of them isn't, include that!
