www.square-enix.co.jp/ff7acc/They have a trailer and everything. It appears to be a bigger, more fleshed-out movie than the one they've released a few years ago. It appears to have more action sequences, but I'm also hopeful that the story gets more fleshed out as well. It appears to be a Blu-ray release only. Oh well, time to make like a butt-pirate and download the friggin thing whenever it gets ripped to a reasonable format. At the end it says "On the Way to a Smile - Final Fantasy VII", is this the name of another movie coming out, or is it the tagline? At any rate, discuss! I know a lot of us here are pessimistic about Final Fantasy in general, especially VII too -- but hey, I really like VII and its sequels, and I'm really hopeful that this will relieve some of the fans' frustrations. Oh my lord. D: They're releasing an ending theme with Gerard Way from "My Chemical Romance", one of the most popular emo groups that everyone slits their wrists to these days. I suppose that's suitable for our emo Cloud. XD It appears that this release will include: - On the Way to a Smile / EPISODE DENZEL FINAL FANTASY VII - Remniscence of FFVII - Remniscence of FFVII Compilation - Turbulence of FFVII Advent Children - FFVII Advent Children Complete

Yes, "Final Fantasy VII: On the Way to a Smile - Episode: Denzel" is a separate, brand new anime OAV. With the single worst name I think I've ever heard. We've been joking about that at work for a couple weeks now... appending "Episode: Denzel" onto the end of EVERYTHING. -Tom Somehow, I still don't find that name too bad. :'D I mean... calling Denzel 'Denzel' was like BAD (ho! Denzel Washington!), but now that he has been named so.... not much can be done, ne? X'D Now a part of me hopes that one day they'll be greedy as usual and animate the other On the Way to a Smile stories! I want Barret's!!! And the previous ending song was so 'meh~' already that.... I can't really get hyped up about the change.

I'm crazy about FFVII, but didn't like Advent Children even a little bit (outside of the gorgeous music and animation, the latter of which I found to be sort of spoiled by the frenetic camera anyway). Sooo...I don't think I'm going to watch this. I got my fill of seeing characters who were important to me during my childhood rendered in beautiful 3-D the first time around. And I think I've sort of taken the Cap'n's view that anything set after FFVII is fanfiction, to be honest~
Plus I just...get the impression that no amount of additions to Advent Children are ever going to make me like it. It wasn't just the total inbalance of story and action that got to me. It was how they handled what little story there was. I hated the fact that Cloud basically reverted to the way he was at the start of Final Fantasy VII because people like him dark and brooding, despite the fact that by the end of the first game he had found himself, grown up, and no longer had a reason to be that way. It was like a betrayal of everything I found wonderful about the game~! This character who is being awkward, standoffish, and really pretty unpleasant to Tifa is the same one who so gently and kindly lifts her back up onto the cliff during FFVII's ending movie? Surely you jest? ^_^
I hated the fact that rather than trying to add anything to some of the lovely supporting characters in FFVII, they simply gave them all a nod in a token action scene. I wanted to see what happened to Cid and Shera after he fulfilled his dream to get into space, wanted to see Barret helping to rebuild Corel and facing his demons now that his war had been won, and wanted to see Japa...er...Wutai starting to find its place in a post-war world. FFVII's ending left so much to the player's imagination that it was one of the few RPGs I would've actually liked to see a sequel to. Forget the action, I would've happily taken a drama charting the aftermath of the game, and what happened to all the characters~ ^_^ Instead, though, they just decided to reopen the story of Broody McBrooderson and the Sephiroth clones - one of the few storyline threads that actually saw complete closure in the original game. Ugh.
And I really didn't like them bringing back Sephiroth at the end for a gimmicky fight. I liked the idea in Final Fantasy VII that the Sephiroth clones essentially bowed to his dominant will, and even that one could take on his appearance and lead you on a wild goose chase to awaken the real one who slept in the Lifestream. ^_^ But the idea that one could become him, personality and all, just struck me as bowing to fan demand. Especially since the real Sephiroth is...er...dead by the end of Final Fantasy VII? Not hurled into the Lifestream, but out and out dead. No more dominant will and all~ Besides, if Jenova had the power to turn any of Sephiroth's clones into him, why did she go to all the effort to awaken the real thing in the game? Seems like kind of a waste of time when you have an army of potential Sephiroths just waiting to do your bidding~! ^_^
So...umm...yes. ^_^ I'll pass - Episode: Denzel.

The problem with the Advent Children is that it does nothing to advance the plot, or answer any questions from the original game. It's all flash, no substance. From watching that trailer it looks like they added even more action scenes, in a movie that has a bit too much action already. No Thanks. Also Blu Ray only is going to kill their sales. BTW are those supposed to be new features? I'm pretty sure the original DVD has the Remininsce of Final Fantasy VII feature on it.

And it progresses!
Every fanficcer has a moment where they try to delete the original and post up a new version, cos they jumped the gun on posting the old one.

Now a part of me hopes that one day they'll be greedy as usual and animate the other On the Way to a Smile stories! I want Barret's!!! "Guess what, foo'? I found OIL! O-I-L!" Some of the voices were annoying, (Cait Sith, everything. Tifa, "Dilly-dally-shilly-shally..." WTF? I cringe at that line!) but I liked Mr. T / Barret. X3 // Come to think of it, do you know what doesn't make sense? How Cloud got to the city of the Ancients by motorcycle -- I mean, come on. Unless his motorcycle drives over water (which I seriously doubt) he'd never get there from Midgar, the continents aren't even connected!

Don't meh~ me, you!!!!!!! But wait -- mehing can be cute! Little sheep. ToT~~~~ You know.... the ending really begs for the appearance of some happy little sheep! Big pastures~! "Guess what, foo'? I found OIL! O-I-L!" Barret's story was fun! Or perhaps I liked it simply because Cid and Red XIII and Shera were in it too? Those stories felt like actual proper tellings of what happened next! But I object at the way they've simply pushed Red XIII aside! Indiscrimination! (and he was my most favourite character too! :() And... Never underestimate the abilities of the Cloud Bike! It can suddenly sprout wings, and walk on water! A lost city entire oceans away?! Peh~ A mere obstacle, easily pooh poohed away by the powers of emo-coolness!

It's so abrupt, it's like he got there the same night. This makes me wonder if this is another one of those movies that do a time skip, haha.
Yakra, that has to be the coolest suggestion yet. Between Tifa farting pedals, and the Cloud Bike farting away an entire ocean with the powers of emo-coolness; suddenly, I'm reminded of the story of Moses and the red sea. XD

I don't really think that MCR is -that- bad, and there's a difference between cutters and emos. And people don't usually cut to music /:
This is pretty sexy though, remind me to rape it.

Ugh.
I like Final Fantasy VII. But I disliked everything Square Enix did related to it. Everything (though I did kind of find interesting its prequel OVA, as an exception).

That explains why it was good. xD Retelling instead of putting in new stuff.

Last Order, you mean? Yeah, I liked Last Order. But it wasn't actually a prequel... it was just a retelling of some of the events that happened in the game, in anime form. Which is probably why I liked it... it didn't mess with anything. -Tom Actually it did. It had Sephiroth jump into the reactor himself, rather than being thrown in by Cloud. Square received enough negative feedback about this that they fixed the scene in Crisis Core.
